We have been coming to the Shorthorn Inn for many years and it has never let us down. We have always had a beautiful meal in wonderful surroundings. The food and ambiance are always second to none.

Dropped into this gem of a restaurant recently and after much deliberation chose the loin of lamb in minted gravy. The word delicious doesn't do it justice. The staff were friendly and efficient and the place was immaculate. Will certainly be going back to try out the rest of the menu. Well done Shorthorn.

I'm 26 and me and my family have been coming here since I was a kid. The food is always spot on, perfect veg, Yorkie puds and creamy leeks. I'm also not a mash person but I love it from here. The staff are always lovely. They have a restaurant part if you want to pre-book but we always just... More

Heard a lot about this place over the years, and finally managed to try it out now that I have moved into the village of Appleton Wiske. Took advantage of their 'Tuesday Parmo' deal, and my wife had a Lasagna. Both were excellent value for money, large helpings (actually failed to finish off the chips!), the food was cooked well,... A party of 10 of us visited for a birthday celebration, it was the first time I had been here for 20 years, it will be another 20 before I return. The food was average but the service was dreadful, a bunch of kids who did not seem to know what they were doing and one in particular was quite... More

Well it appears the adults had the night off and left the children to run things! Had to ask if someone was coming to take our drink order then had to ask for the wine menu, the starters were lovely I had the pate which was big enough to share and the desserts were again lovely and easily big enough... Have eaten dinner at this local pub on several occasions recently. Good pub grub well prepared and served. Good beers on tap and they are well looked after. Pool table & atmosphere locals are very friendly.

Have been here twice now , Sunday lunch and a evening meal . Have to say it was cracking , nice potions and the desserts are to die for . Busy but worth the wait , one of the best eating houses in the north east

Visited this restaurant 3 days before Christmas........ 7.30pm and three tables filled only. The large restaurant was without soul and atmosphere.....such a shame as it used to be buzzing. The waiting staff were very pleasant. Wine - average and wine list uninspiring ....... The menu is a huge book - lots of choice. Soup excellent. Salmon and prawn starlets also... More

The 'Giant Fresh Battered Cod' was neither giant or fresh, unless fresh has been downgraded to freshly defrosted mush and giant downgraded to hanging between the limits of a generally large plate. The young girls serving were a delight and that's the only reason I didn't make more of it. My partners Salmon was also of the defrosted community, so... More
