Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Full of Character and busy, which gave it a great atmosphere. Low ceilings, black timbers and jaunty floors and walls all add to the charm of this old traditional Inn on the High Street. I had a pint of the local beer, very nice indeed...really hit the spot.More

This delightful old pub is full of character and atmosphere, low old beams showing the sloping floors above, old bricks and stone walls with inglenook fireplace. The walls are adorned with many classic pictures of ships, sailing vessels and war ships.. There are a number...of different rooms in which you can chose to eat Outside is a large car park and many eating tables. The menu is extensive and there’s a good variety of specials and all at reasonable prices, a something for everyone collection. We’ve eaten here a number of times and always been delighted with the quality of the meals. Good sized options served at the correct temperatures and nicely presented. We recommend this quintessential English pub.More

Met friends at The Ship, lovely non pretentious pub. I had steak and chips, the sirloin was one of the nicest steaks I have had in a long time. 3 of us had steaks and my wife had the beef stroganoff and loved it. Will...happily return to spend our hard earned cash again.More

We had a bit of a party in the rear room following some sports matches at the School. Andy, Rob and their cheery team produced top food and looked after us all night. Everyone was glad to stagger back to their very reasonably priced room....To be honest we all love The Ship! Now I even know what a Baby Guinness is?More

The pub is actually huge as it goes back a long way. We just had drinks but the food looked good. It got quite busy in the evening and had a good atmosphere.

Two of us had a main course each, Thai Curry and Beef Stroganoff, at this lovely inn last night. Have to say the food was excellent. Value was amazing even at full price but had a 40% off deal! Covid19 measures were very good with...temperature taken on arrival. Made booking earlier in day and was all very well organised. The young guy who looked after us was very pleasant and helpful and deserves credit. Wish we had been staying in the area longer as would have been back immediately. Thanks to all and compliments to the chef! Wishing you all the best in these difficult times. You deserve it!.More

I always get made of fuss of here. Nothing is too much trouble. It''s a real country pub with great ambience. The building is wonderful.

A great place to have lunch on a Saturday, we found the small starters sufficient and Plentiful before the joys of the six nations in the back room.

As well as their standard menu, on a Thursday evening The Ship offers a Thai menu, cooked beautifully from scratch by their chef Saifon. Saifon loves creating and sharing dishes from her native country, which really shows - I think probably the nicest Thai meal...I’ve had in the UK. A group of ten of us shared mixed starters (oh the dim summmmmm) followed by chicken green curry, beef massaman and seafood pad Thai. It was one of those meals you keep shovelling down, despite being full, because it’s so tasty! Very reasonably priced too. A spontaneous round of applause when our chef came to check how we liked the meal - can’t wait to go back, she changes the menu regularly so there’s often new things to try.More

Warm pub...nice atmosphere. The Ship burger coming in 1/4 or 1/2 size . Toppings though tasty, not necessary. Chips not home made ..more like american fries. Tasty enough but it's all in the detail !
