Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The rooms are very basic but the food was good. The best thing about the place is the staff (especially Jules). Couldn't do enough for us and they were all very friendly and efficient. Definitely the best asset of the pub. Loads of parking and...quiet despite being on a busy road. Just two suggestions.... fruit juice with breakfast would have been nice and the girl serving us breakfast forgot to bring us milk with the pots of tea but I thnk she was new.More

We stayed here for a couple of nights. The room is tired and needs a good refurb but I understand that is happening soon. The room is a chalet style room away from the main building which I hadn’t realised - I would have preferred...a main building room but hey ho! The room was comfortable and basic but had everything in it that was needed. The shower was hot with excellent water pressure and the bed was comfortable. There was a kettle and plenty of coffee/tea and biscuits. For the price it was never going to be the Ritz but suited our needs for the time we were there. The breakfast was good. We opted for the Narrow Boat breakfast which was enormous. The staff were really friendly and welcoming so overall we had a good experienceMore

This pub/restaurant was picked using a 'halfway between' website as we were meeting friends from Lichfield. Their website looked good and so we booked. The tables were sticky, presumably as a result of too much sanitiser. The menu was not extensive but adequate for all...tastes but the food was not presented well and one order of lamb burger looked pathetic. My fish was overdone but as we had had a fair wait for service we persevered. Desserts were ok, but I question the brain of the chef/server in serving my ice cream dessert on a red hot plate. We are not food snobs - we ask only good food at reasonable price - The prices here are expensive for what we were served.More

I visited with my partners family on Sunday 3rd September. I ordered the Prawn and Salmon salad and requested avocado instead of asparagus. Initially the kitchen sent out the wrong dish, the avocado and mango salad. At that point after seeing the salad maybe I...should have cancelled my order for salad as all I could see was a plateful of chopped leaves. When the requested salad arrived it was hard to find any salmon and certainly no prawns. The salmon when found, probably amounted to 1 slice and what there was was stringy and poor quality. The 'prawns' were what I would describe as shrimp and amounted to roughly 8 in total which would have equated to almost a normal sized prawn. The chopped leaf contained some browning pieces and some rotting pieces. The wait staff were not at all concerned at the 'meal' I was presented with. Unfortunately because I didn't want to make a fuss I meekly accepted this, my fault I know, but basically I was robbed of £14 and left hungry. Please, please, please avoid this overpriced experience and dine elsewhere. I'm only sorry that I didn't take photos to back up my review.More

Family group of 4 for lunch. Overall 3/4 were OK with our experience. The menu was somewhat limited to begin with and sadly there were a number of items unavailable which reduced the choice even more so we did struggle to find anything interesting. I...decided to try the Vegan Steak (I'm not a vegan or veggie but always willing to try something different), when I asked what it was like I was told it was made from mushrooms and very similar to a normal steak in texture and flavour. I was SO disappointed when I was served up with a single chunk of Lions Mane Mushroom that looked like a soggy lump of cauliflower that had been charred on a grill, it had absolutely no flavour and was watery and mushy. In fact I would have been happier WITH a lump of cauliflower, at least it would have had some flavour and texture, how they managed to decide to call it a Vegan Steak is a joke and beyond me. Definitely not worth £15. Hopefully they change up the menu soon as I personally wouldn't bother again until they do.More

We are local and we keep going because it’s on our doorstep, but then being let down by appalling and slow service, and poor value (over-priced, small portions, badly cooked) and swearing we will never go again. After being embarrassed by all of the above...when we met friends for drinks and then (stupidly) decided to stay for food, and being let down on all fronts, we now will not be back. The owners are still the same- they come in regularly, but they no longer care, arrogance every time we see them. Pity, could be nice like it used to be.More

Two part review Hotel - chalet style room with stable door. The good - had tea and coffee making facilities and biscuits, nice touch. Had complimentary shower, conditioner and body wash. Towels were adequate, shower was hot. Nice location near Grand Union Canal, easy to...get to just across the bridge. The bad - no mattress protectors, which I was not happy about. No breakfast was on offer, despite confirmation email saying it was. The ugly - the floor was carpeted but was not pleasant to walk on, I went to the car to get my slippers which luckily I had with me. Has promise but is in need of refurb. Restaurant for dinner Waiting staff were brilliant, professional, efficient, chatty but not in your face. The food was tasty and good sized portions, our only comment was the burgers took a little too long to be served. Updated this would be a great place to stay.More

Underwhelmed. Service was good but food was average. Mrs D's chickpea burger 'fell apart'; beef burger was OK without being memorable. There was also 'something in the air tonight' which was potentially the canal (?) and certainly not the pub's fault. Setting and views were...good, but difficult to think anyone would rush back.More

Plenty of parking at this inn that has a lovely outdoor seating area by the canal. On a summer weekend, we sat on the picnic style tables with beer and chatted away. The indoors is quite lush too and I reckon it will be a...lovely place to have a meal.More

Giving this a one star feels like a star too many. After a lovely sunny day we thought we’d drive out to The Narrow Boat for a drink and a pizza. When walking in we were asked for our food and drinks order at the...bar - this was before we had even sat at a table. Once sat down outside (food can only be served on certain tables) and realising that all the tables you can eat at are in the shade and with a cold wind we asked to move inside. The waitress pulled a face that almost said ‘that’s not ideal’ but reluctantly let us move indoors. We had been sat down a few minutes when I assume what was another waitress (although not in a waitress apron but a scruffy looking blouse) came and told us the table was reserved and we had to move. Nobody else turned up to this table during our visit. We moved to the only other free table which is in the middle of the conservatory and feels like a roundabout with people walking around, in and out the door. Our drinks were forgotten but after reordering they did turn up, we’d been sat at the table for about 15 minutes when a waitress came over to offer us menus. We explained that we had already ordered. We were surprised that she had assumed we hadn’t ordered but still took 15 minutes to offer us a menu. Another table left during this time and we asked if we could move to the empty table, out of the way. We were told she ‘couldn’t sit us at a dirty table’ - instead of clearing the table it was left until another family came in from outside and asked to sit there, at which time it was cleared and cleaned down for them. At this point we felt so disappointed with the staff attitude and general lack of customer service that we agreed if we hadn’t already ordered food we would have preferred to have paid for our drinks and left. Our food arrived and was fine - a burger and a pizza. We didn’t wait for the bill, we went to pay at the bar. After everything we just wanted to leave. At the bar we were told to ‘wait a minute’ by a waitress who did not return. The guy behind the bar, who seemed helpful enough, asked another waitress to help us. We paid £40 for a pizza, a burger and two drinks. It will be the last £40 we spend here. The food wasn’t bad but the staff let this place down.More

So very disappointed! This used to be a wonderful place to come and have a good pub dinner. Sadly no longer. Food took an age to come out. Sword fish was tiny, we ordered a portion of chips to go with it. The chips came...out long after we had finished our dinners! The fish cakes were just balls of mashed potato’s with no visible fish. Crumble was puréed fruit with what looked like the bottom of a biscuit tin sprinkled on top! What has gone wrong?! When the lady cook was here the food was fantastic!! But now it’s awful Sadly we will not be returning. The last three times we have come here this year have just got worse and worseMore
