Grannies tearoom is a delightful little cosy tearoom set in the heart of old Alnwick. It is in the basement of the Baker accessible by very old quite steep stairs so not great for disabled people. The food is lovely and the price is very...More

Used Grannies as a stop on our way home up north. Great soup, lovely cakes and quite a selection in the shop. The tea room itself has a lovely atmosphere and is very small and intimate, the waitresses doing a great job getting round the...More

Grannies deserves its high rating. The other reviews sum up the delight of the place, the food and the service. The staff are attentive and friendly. Grannies only has seven tables; five two-seat tables and two four-seat. So you are either lucky to get a...More

I came here with a couple of friends, initially for breakfast. I think I had what was possibly the world's biggest teacake!I was very impressed. My friend is fussy with how her toast is done but she was happy that it was just how she...More

Nice little place with steep steps down from the passageway or the shop. Menu offered basic lunches and snacks and was reasonably priced. The building is full of quirky nick nacks of bygone days. We had tea and cakes and they were served very quickly...More

Went today. Sandwiches very nice. Mushroom soup delicious (I mean like one of the best soups I've ever tried delicious) and a big hunk of cake for dessert. Enough tea for two to swim in. Good service and shop is great too!

Myself and my wife had a late lunch at Grannies (after a visit to The Alnwick Gardens). It was a Thursday but still quite busy (a good sign in itself!). Despite this, the staff were efficient, polite and friendly and we were served quickly. My...More

Grannies Tea room and Delicatessen was established around 1984, then the tearoom only held a couple of tables placed within the shop. It was only later, in 1989, that the intimate downstairs tea room was developed within the basement where the old fashioned coal chutes, old style steps, fireplace and flagstone flooring can still be seen. Grannies is a strong advocate for the local food movement in Alnwick, and offers a wide range of local produce within the deli, shop and tea room.
