Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have eaten at the Barn at Beal for the last 10 years, often bringing my mum who sadly is now unable to get out. It has had times when it was brilliant and other times poor, very hit and miss. This visit the service and welcome was much better, there was nothing specifically wrong with the food, but is has become expensive and less value for money. £16.50 for fish and chips is the going rate which can be up to £19 but there wasn't much fish in the batter. It wasn't over cooked, which often happens. The cullen skink was good and the staff were better trained and more attentive and friendly than on a previous visit where it was chaotic. It is dog friendly and has wonderful views from the terrace in good weather. Combined with the disastrous pot holes at the car park on Holy Island which meant we could not get in as last time we damaged our car! So we had a really bad visit to Lindesfarne, again a go to place for the last 10 years as we walk our dogs on the beach. Given we couldn't get onto the beach as we couldn't park, we will probably go to another beach in future and give Holy Island a miss.

Lovely barn with amazing views across sea sky and Holy Island. Nice lunch menu reasonably priced. Great atmosphere, spacious, local artwork and photos of the area and dog friendly!

We are staying here in our motorhome. The facilities, the cleanliness of the whole setup is first class. We loved the cafe and the staff are terrific and pleasant. The views across to Holy Island are truly breathtaking. Our thanks to the lovely girls in the cafe for their help and service. What a Gem this place is, we ate here last year and vowed to come back, we were not disappointed! Can’t wait to return.

We called in here to enjoy a drink at the bar whilst enjoying the views over to Holy Island. The young lady who served us was extremely helpful and pleasant and even went out of her way to go through to the restaurant to find out about some of the pictures that were for sale. The wine was delicious, the choice of 0% beer was good and the atmosphere was lovely, especially the roaring wood stove at the end of the bar.

We camped here for 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. Lovely tent pitches, with rhe moat spectacular views and a short walk to the causeway. The showers and toilets were outstanding and beautifully clean. We ate a meal in the restaurant for out first evening. The food was beautiful and staff really friendly. We can't wait to go back at the same time next year, when their booking calendar opens!!!!

My family visited this morning for lunch and was very disappointed at the range of offerings for lunch. Not only a bit sparse but what they did have was very expensive. We ordered fish and chips, fish finger sandwich and cheese and gam on toast which were ok but not the best . We have visited on a number of occasions and even on the previous visit we felt that we were bothering the staff , although to be fair they were just about closing but we were by no means the last there. Today’s visit was possibly our last as it confirmed my thoughts that it is now too expensive for local people to enjoy & obviously now for the tourist market.

Called in hoping for a breakfast en route to holy island, after looking at their menu online. What a waste of time. Waited 15 minute to be abruptly told by the manageress its too busy to seat and she has a massive back log. 2 tables had finished. 5 were empty. One gent waiting to be served. We stood and waited another 5 minutes and got sick of being ignored. Wont be going back.

Thought this campsite was good a bit “open” but view’s fantastic. The restaurant don’t meet our expectations looking at the menu very limited my partner went for the fish&chips he was so disappointed they were over priced with frozen chips we complained and the lady said she’d “seen the chef peel the potatoes” I suggested they sought another provider as they definitely weren’t fresh potatoes, he’d had fish&chips from the black swan in Belford the week before which were fabulous with proper chips! I had the deer which was nice, the lady gave us a refund for the fish&chips which was good of her. The guy’s toilet weren’t good either he said compared to other campsites. I would definitely go back to the campsite but eat elsewhere.

Stopped for a light lunch. Indifferent service didn't particularly help, but what truly amazed me was how someone could possibly make such thin and tasteless vegetable soup. Unlikely to repeat the experience.

The Barn at Beal is located on the causeway to Holy Island and is definitely worth a visit for coffee or meals. There is a large carpark and it has great views. There is a good selection of food and beverages, possibly a little pricey but bearing in mind the location and mainly home cooked, expected.

Seamless booking and check in for a motorhome pitch. Bar, cafe and restaurant were all available and enjoyed food with a warm welcome. However the disparity between the male and female showers was stark. Gents were not clean, no evidence of being maintained and compared to the newly built female block, was a tricky pill to swallow. I’m sure there are plans afoot to upgrade the male block but they were really poor this weekend and un-hygienic.

Thanks for reviewing us. I’m sorry that the facilities were not up to standard during your stay. They are cleaned daily so to suggest that the male facility was unhygienic is unfair, I think it was half term when you stayed with us so the traffic through the facilities at that time would be very high. We always hope that people will leave the facilities as they find them but this is not always the case. We have invested an awful lot in the last year transforming the ladies shower facility, we intend to also upgrade the mens’ facility but unfortunately don’t have the funds to do this right now.. this is a small family run business.. as soon as we are able to we will make the necessary changes. I thought this would be apparent, work in progress!

Limited menu if you are looking for a snack. Over priced for what was provided, and the 'posh chips' were anything but posh - just chips with cheese and garlic.

Absolutely stunning view from our motorhome spot on the campsite. Watched the sun set and then rise again on a beautiful morning. Easy access to Holy Island. Lovely coffee and cake in the restaurant/coffee shop. Great new ladies shower facilities as well. We will definitely return.
