Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A simply brilliant place. We have been several times for DBB as a break in a journey - it's just off the A1 so highly recommended if you are travelling that way often - but it would also be lovely as a base for Northumbrian...exploration. It is warm, welcoming, the bedrooms are super comfy, and the staff are universally lovely. My husband was a little unwell and they looked after us so well. The food is excellent. Pub classics galore to a very high standard, but other very interesting options too - and a very good wine list. Go!More

It’s not our first visit to the Northumberland Arms and it never disappoints. Lovely ambience, amazing food and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. No surprise they are always fully booked, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Fabulous atmosphere in the bar and such a bright and well decorated dining room off the bar. We arrived and were seated promptly. The wheelchair access is really easy and the ramp is a good angle. The food was exceptionally good, I had the Chicken...Schnitzel and the husband had fish and chips, both of us agreed they were the best version of those dishes we’d had for a very long time. The staff were friendly and efficient with a smile and we would definitely go back. It s great that there is dedicated parking for disabled patrons and the booking process was straightforward. 10/10!More

We came for a Sunday lunch albeit at 4pm so let's call it dinner, for my mum's birthday as it's somewhere we'd been recommended to try. It was absolutely delicious. Perfect place to celebrate. The soup of the day was mushroom and it was tasty...and creamy and served very hot as it should be. I had the chicken main and it's some of the best chicken ever. Others in our party had lamb and pork and both enjoyed there's. My dad in particular was absolutely raving about the pickled red cabbage served on the roast which he described as 'beautiful' and wanted to take home with him! And that is very high praise indeed if my dad likes it! I'm hoping to come back soon with my other half and include an over night stay because if the rooms are anything like the bar and restaurant themselves they must be beautiful. Staff also very nice and attentive and professional. Top marks to you all.More

My birthday lunch but left feeling a bit sad and disappointed. No market fish and therefore chose fish and chips (being a non meat eater), my husband sausages. Pretty quiet at 1.30pm on a Tuesday afternoon but clearly something went wrong in the kitchen as...we waited 40 minutes for the food. I was getting worried as weather closing in and I had a long drive ahead of me back to Cumbria. Staff worked hard to apologise and reduced the bill but still left feeling underwhelmed on what should have been a happy occasion.More

We'd driven past this place several times & it always looked busy, so we decided to stop by for dinner. The place itself is quite nice in a lovely little village. Parking was a bit tricky, mostly because of several cars taking up two spaces....So, onto the food.. I had the ham hock terrine as a starter & have to say it was the best bit of the meal. A good size & really tasty. For main I had the sausage & mash. Whilst tasty, the portion size was small. For just under £16 I would have thought you'd get a decent sized meal, but no. The same issue with the fish & chips. A small bit of fish & not many chips. Another party member had the pie & again, whilst tasty, it was served with a small blob of mash potato. When you're watching the pennies & eating out is a rare occurrence this is just not good enough. Overall, whilst the food was tasty, it didn't represent value for money & I won't be returning. The rest of our group also said the same. The restaurant was also quite chilly which made it uncomfortable towards the end.More

An excellent Sunday lunch, . Good quality, well presented food with an enormous Yorkshire pudding. Service was attentive and caring. Visited with 18 month old grandson so were not seated in the middle of the restaurant but did not feel sidelined despite being at the...far end of it. Everywhere was clean and had a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely visit again as fairly local to us. Overall a great experience. Thank you to all the staff.More

Sunday lunch with adult family and a dog. We all agreed the best Sunday lunch out we have had in ages. Really impressed. I enjoyed the beef, chicken and pork. The pork was especially good. The pouch was well looked after too, with a good...dog menu selection. If only I live locally I would be a Sunday regular.More

Just had a superb Sunday lunch here, the vegetables were some of the best I’ve tasted, particularly the carrots and it’s not a vegetable I would usually eat. Very good service from start to finish despite lots of young staff. Food was good and very happy with our meal. Personally I would have chosen beef if rare had been an option but happy they at least tell you medium or well done are...the only options. My chicken was very moist and tender and my partner’s fish cakes and trimmings excellent. Sticky Toffee Pud was fab. Very dog friendly if you have reserved in the bar area with a special doggy menu. Very happy we chose this place after a lovely riverside walk.More

We stayed in Felton for a week , visited this superb pub 5 times , first for a drink and the welcome and ambiance made us enquire about booking a table to eat one lunchtime with the family and dogs . We were not disappointed....The food , service and setting was so nice , each of us raved over our meals , particularly the pie ! so we booked for Sunday evening ! WOW the roast was out of the world ! , popped in for a pint after a beach walk, treated and felt like a local , super atmosphere . Booked again for the 2 of us on a Tuesday night , food again superb, steak night which includes a bottle of wine which we were told about by the waiter ! Lovely service mainly young staff being trained by experienced great friendly staff . Each visit we were welcomed , it even has a dog menu , this place has it right . Booked again for New Year ! What more can we say !More

Great choice of beverages, delicious Sunday Roast and a divine Sticky Toffee pudding. But what set this place apart was the friendly , efficient and spot-on service...epitomised by Karen. The cinder toffee had sadly been missed off the Dessert. I was planning to donate it...to my better half of 26 years wedded bliss. I mean I wasn't going to share the Pud !! Fear not - Karen saved the situation and arrived, despite a very busy Sunday lunch service, with a bowl of Cinder heaven. Marriage saved - thanks Karen !More

Yes, anyone can get breakfast but you’re supposed to book it, although when we had breakfast on the day we left our self-catering cottage to come home, some people just turned up and were served breakfast.
