The Greendale Oak restaurant boasts a charming atmosphere that guests find welcoming, often highlighting the positive impact of the new staff on the ambiance. However, the dining experience is marred by inconsistent service, as some patrons encounter attentive staff while others grapple with slow and disorganized service. Wait times for meals can be lengthy, frustrating diners even during off-peak hours. Opinions on the value offered are split; some commend the tasty dishes and presentation, whereas others are let down by subpar meals and service issues.

We went to greendale oak last minute this evening for food and they were so accommodating. Got us a table for two with almost no wait time and we were seated comfortably with beautiful decoration and a lovely atmosphere. The restaurant was busy as you would expect on a Saturday night but that did not stop the staff from providing exceptional service. Our waitress Jade was perfect from start to finish ensuring we didn’t have to ask for a thing Drinks orders were taken almost immediately and the four courses we had each came out promptly one after the other. The food itself was delicious, large portions of quality food. The menu was small but the meals we had have clearly been perfected. The prices were more than reasonable and it was refreshing to see so much choice for gluten free with no extra charge that you would normally expect. We were also briefly served by Jessica who had the same friendly persona as jade and they both really made the whole thing come together. 10/10 for service and food. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again soon.

Must admit the welcome and the staff was excellent. The menu didnt really offer too much choice for people who are on a diet or small portions. me and my wife both had haggis, black pudding dish, it was well presented but brown sauce didnt go with Haggis or black pudding and white pudding and the dish tasted very bland. For main meal we both opted for the seafood fish envelope which was £20 each, which for what it was I felt it was a bit expensive, as there was no taste to the fish, the sauce tasted like greasy butter so we both left that after dipping a chip in it. Im not put off by returning as i saw other tables having pizza which looked quite nice and as I say the staff were very friendly, maybe we just picked the wrong dishes on this visit.

Had a meal here on the 3rd of November. My husband had traditional fish and chips the fish was good but the chips were not great. I had a pork dish which was cold when it was brought to the table I complained and the waitress took my meal away. So my husband and I ate almost separately. The pork dish was returned and was hot this time however the portion of pork was small and quite tough the dish itself was of a poor standard. I will not be returning in a hurry which is a shame as I like the situation of the pub and some meals are good. My meal was a real let down.

We went with my sister & brother in law last night for a meal. When the waitress came we were informed that the menu we’d looked at online was not available after 6pm ( we’d booked for 6.30 ) although it wasn’t stated on the menu or online. The choice was very limited and had we known this we wouldn’t have booked. The food was not good and we all left most of the food. My sister & her husband both had chicken burgers which were enormous but said they were not good. I had a sea bass fillet which was lovely but very small, the potatoes were horrible & the fish stew served with it was anything but a fish stew. Tinned chopped tomatoes with a few mussels & clams is certainly not a fish stew! We were all very disappointed & will not go back there. The emphasis certainly appears to be on quantity not quality.

6 of us and a baby we’re booked in to dine at 6:30 pm. we had booked this time so we could eat and get our 1 year old daughter to bed for 8:30 thinking this would be plenty of time, it took half an hour for them to come and take our order and we had to get someone’s attention to do this, once our order had been taken an hour had passed and we still had no food, once we got someone’s attention to ask where our food was she went to find out, 5 minutes later the lady came out and explained that the person who took our order never actually put the order through the the kitchen, my daughter was screaming as she was starving and tired at this point. The food then took a further 45 minutes to come. 1 hour 45 minutes waiting for food is completely unacceptable never mind with a hungry baby. Once the food eventually came we were in that much of a rush to get home we couldn’t even enjoy it. All that was offered was a free drink and barely even a sorry from the waitresses which is also shocking as we at least expected some discount taken off the bill. Over all left - disappointed, upset and angry and will not be visiting again.

Had to wait a long time to be seated when we first arrived. The food order was taken promptly, but it took over an hour for the food to arrive as they stood there was a computer system problem. When the food arrived it was far too salty.

We had Sunday lunch. The food is not good by any standards and for what you get it is expensive. Meat pie was full of gristly meat encased in hard pastry. The lamb was tough and the vegetables were sparse for the number of people. We have not been here for a number of years following a bad experience but we would give it another try but we will not be returning

Very disappointed. Very limited menu so struggled to find anything to eat. Went here on recommendation from friends and wished we hadn't. Service was poor, at no point were we asked if we wanted another drink - nor was anyone else asked, waitresses spent a lot of time 'looking busy' but just standing around. Waited a long time for food - after 50 minutes a waitress came over and said the chef had dropped my gammon steak so needed to cook another - waited a further 20 minutes for it to be cooked. Order was wrong but by this time I was losing the will to live. Gammon was so ridiculously over salted it was unpleasant. We left and didn't bother with puddings. Absolutely would not return unless my life depended on it.

Thoroughly disappointing Fathers Day Dinner. When we arrived we were told that it was a Father’s Day menu or nothing. When the table was booked two weeks prior we were told that it would be a normal Sunday menu. Disappointing start. We weren’t the only ones who had not been told about this last minute change… The staff took our order and we were left to talk away for half an hour, not an issue. However nobody was present to take our drinks order so we ended up going to the bar to order drinks. After waiting for an hour we noticed that the tables around us that had arrived after us were all having their food delivered. Around 5 minutes later the waitress came over to our table and told us that she forgot to put our order through. She told us that she would refund a round of drinks but stated that she couldn’t just take it off of the order which would have been easier. She then went on to say that the treacle sponge dessert orders was no longer in stock. At this point those that ordered after us who were sat to our side received their treacle sponge. When the mains arrived they were average. Better than Wetherspoons but not as good as neighbouring village pubs. The desserts which we did end up having were poor. The ice cream sundae in particular had stale cake in it with three scoops of ice cream. Again disappointing. At the end when we were ready to pay we ended up having to go to the bar as the waitresses had gone AWOL. At no point when we were paying were we asked how our meal was. Overall it was very disappointing. The lack of communication about the menu was poor and the food was average. It was annoying to have had to wait because of somebody’s mistake for the food and to be lied to about the desserts was far from ideal. It cost £25 per head for two courses which is an increase on their normal prices- it turns Father’s Day into somewhat of a scam. It was not value for money. This is the second time I have been to the restaurant and the second time I have been let down. I would not come back again due to my previous experiences at the pub.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the eat out to help out scheme; we booked in at the Greendale Oak having learned our lesson from turning up without a booking a week earlier. It was just as busy on our return, the 1st thing that struck me was how tastefully done out the old pub has been and secondly that it was part of the Everards chain which was a good omen as their places always seem to do great food and beer. I'm a complete sucker for a Souffle so there was no contest for the Twice Baked Mushroom & Goats Cheese Souffle which transpired to be every bit as good as it sounded. The nipper ordered a burger from the childs menu which was was served up in an adult sized portion and was far to good/ wasted on a rugrat. My Veggie burger for the main course was decent but the fish and chips we ordered was a bit of a let down as it was fairly bland tasting and average. The lofty standards returned agian with the desserts, Sticky Toffee pudding in particular stole the show and proved the family favourite even under fierce competition from the much touted, reigning champion that is the Chocolate Brownie. Apart from the bland fish & chips the only other negative aspect was the lack of wifi and the presence of a lipstick mark on my pint glass. Before you ask I didn't complain as I cant stand the thought of perfectly good beer being poured down the drain. Finally it's not a proper eat out to help out review without a cost based boast; and sure enough for x3 beers, x1 starter, x3 mains and x2 desserts the sum of £36.75, it almost felt like we were leaving without paying.

We visited as we wanted a quick pub meal after a long day - and it was so fantastic that I have to write a review. The new outdoor area they have is wonderful. It's so nice to eat al fresco rather than be cooped up inside a pub on a sunny day, but it also gives you that bit of shelter from the inclement British weather. We hadn't booked and we were greeted with a smile and given a table. They bought us drinks immediately and nothing seemed like too much trouble. Then on to the food. Absolutely sublime. This isn't gourmet food - it's classic pub food, executed to perfection. Chicken boned and grilled over the bbq, loads of chips and a beautiful sauce. Even the salad which you is often left on the place was fresh and delicious with a nice dressing. We ordered sides and stayed for extra drinks. Even though the outdoor area became filled almost to capacity, the young wait staff still stayed totally on top of it and everything came quickly and piping hot. We were absolutely delighted and we will be back very soon to support this business.

Visited here with 5 friends and we were so disappointed. We ordered our food and 3 meals didn’t come with the correct sides and my meal didn’t come at all. 2 of my friends tried to tell the waiter and must have come across abrupt as the manager came over to our table and spoke in a very rude manner and said she doesn’t appreciate us shouting at her staff but in no way did we do this. We were just trying to get our correct order. When the bill came it was all wrong, there were a few drinks on there that we didn’t even order and my meal that came 15 mins late after all my friends had nearly finished eaten was still on there full price. The manager came over again to sort the bill and said we should have split the bill (which we asked to at the beginning and said we could not) and said thanks kids when walking off. We’re all very annoyed and won’t be coming back :(

Visited today for father's day once seated at our table we were given menus and advised it was a minimum of 2 courses. This was never mentioned when I made the booking and was nowhere stated on the menu. The starter's were disappointing and very small choice. We opted for 2 lamb dinners and 1 chicken and ribs. The yorkshire pudding was cold the potatoes hard to find and the meat very sparce. We didn't really need a dessert but we felt forced into it as no way was I paying £24.90 for a main course. I opted for English strawberries there was 2 strawberries cut into 4. My husband and dad had ice cream sundae served in a half pint pot??? This meal cost me nearly £100 and I feel you have overcharged people today. And the food was acceptable. I've had better food at far better prices. Sadly we won't return especially on father's day

Came for lunch with my husband, son and his wife. On arrival we were given a menu, but nobody came to take our food and drinks order. Eventually had to go to the bar to ask somebody to come to us. Myself and my daughter in law had fish and chips. My son had the burger and my husband had the belly pork. We waited ages for the food and we were very disappointed The fish was really over cooked. The batter was nearly burnt and very dark brown. It meant the fish was dry. It was swimming in fat as well. We didn’t really eat much. The chips were nice though. The burger looked thrown together. The belly pork my husband said was nice. Eventually they cleared the plates and took our dessert order. They took so long to come. Again in the end I had to go and chase them as my son and wife had to fetch our grandchildren from school. I booked the table for 12.30, thinking it would give us plenty of time. The desserts were awful. I had the sticky toffee pudding. It was just a slab of dried sponge with a small drizzle of a toffee type sauce on. Really disappointed, especially with the prices they charged. Would have understood if they had been busy, but there was hardly anybody in as well. The staff were lovely and friendly. The chef however needs retraining if they think it’s acceptable to present such poor food.
