Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been returning to this pub every year for over 20 for our anniversary. Although we moved from the area we have continued to return to celebrate the occasion. In the past we have had some lovely meals and the service has been good....This was not the case on our recent visit. We both ordered the fillet mignon which should have been served with a rocket salad, I received a salad with thick shavings of cheese. I don't eat cheese so spoke to our waitress who informed me the meal was served with a parmesan and rocked salad, not what it states on their menu. She did however offer to change the salad. When she returned the salad appeared to be mainly red onion as I had onion rings not what I wanted. my meal was taken away again and returned with rocket salad. The chips we both had were over salted as was the steak which I had to cut the edges off. When asked if everything was ok the answer was no. Due to no fault of ours our meals arrived at different times our comments regarding the amount of salt we were assured would be feed back to the chef. Our evening had been spoilt the food and service disappointing! When we paid the bill it was for the full amount.More

2 close friends and myself dined her solely because we had dined at a previous restaurant at which the Head Chef here had worked. We were not disappointed. When we arrived at 7 pm, the restaurant and bar were full. Testament to its popularity. I...drank several pints of Plum Porter. It was just my ticket. We all had 3 courses. Superb presentation, taste, and amount of food. The Head Chef visited our table, and we spent a few minutes discussing the meals we had eaten. Nice touch, much appreciated. Will visit again. 110% for me.More

We visit this pub regularly as my parents live in the village. We often eat there especially in the summer as there is a very pleasant outdoor area. On our last visit there was a great new menu. This is an independent pub so no...chain pub food! The seafood sharer board was fantastic. I had the venison steak and my wife had the venison burger. My steak was absolutely delicious and a welcome change from a normal grill menu. My wife said it was probably one of the nicest burgers she has ever had! There seems to have been a change in staff recently and we commented on what a great difference in atmosphere and welcome there is. I do enjoy a good pub atmosphere and this has has it all! We cannot wait to return to start going through the new menu!More

We visit this hostelry regularly. A recent visit proved to be one of the best meals we have had in some time. The quality and presentation seems to have raised to a new level. We ordered off the specials board, choosing Pumpkin curry and a...fresh Hake dish. Top restaurant quality and superb service from our waitress. A very enjoyable evening.More

The Sunday roasts are amazing, perfect gravy and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. Great little pub atmosphere. Staff were friendly and you can bring dogs in too.

On arrival, we were looking at drinks available and was told in no uncertain terms to go to our table. My husband said he was looking at the types of lager and beers available and the waitress very abruptly said, it is table service! We...followed her through and then when we asked what lagers were available, our young waitress hadn’t a clue. She brought a member of the bar staff over who was able to help. Our waitress then left without taking one of our six drinks orders, so I had to call her back. The food was nice enough but presentation of the pie, chips and vegetables was dreadful; swimming in gravy coloured water. At one point, we were chatting away; three couples who hadn’t seen one another for a long time, when a waitress appeared and immediately, bawled across the table at our group, asking us if we’d like to see the sweet menu. She didn’t even pause for a second before doing this, so we had a moment to recognise she was there. I don’t recall one smile, one polite word all evening.More

Stood at the bar waiting to pay. Been here over 10 minutes and not even acknowledged by staff. Sometimes they are non existent which is a real let down. For a lovely pub the staff really let this company down.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Had olives, chipolatas and fritto misto for starters. Everything was tasty, cooked well and piping hot. The honey for the chipolatas was slightly overdone, so a little bitter. Then we had a 40 minute wait for our main course. We...had obviously been forgotten, we were sat in one of the lovely pods outside. A young lad did come out after 30 mins to apologise and say that it wouldn't be long. And he did apologise profusely when he bought our meal. We each had a seafood pot. The broth was lovely, the fries were hot and tasty and the seafood was cooked very nicely. The only downside is that whoever cleaned the mussels needs more training as most of them still had the beards in them. There was also slices of raw garlic in the broth. This was a real shame as it could have been a fantastic meal for a very reasonable price.More
