Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Surprisingly excellent. The location on face value does not drive you here vs some other local options...... think again! The friendliness staff we met and consistent service. Spotlessly clean. Good bar, nice welcome (over days), piping hot food, quick service, staff reconised empty glasses and...good atmosphere (music, family, friends, dogs etc) . A very well run pub and restaurant. Sensible prices and not pretending to be gastro. Would definitely return for a drink and / or food.More

Second time visiting and again did not disappoint. The food is delicious and staff were welcoming with good service. I can highly recommend this place for a meal and we will definitely be visiting again. Compliments to the chefs (who you can see working their...socks off).More

Just visited the Royal Oak again this evening. We seem to be drawn more and more to this place. Yet again the food was exquisite. Lamb rump and Sea bass were the two main courses. Wonderful. You should also try the warm scotch egg. As...always the food lived upto expectations. Warm and friendly ambience, the landlord and his team are fantastic. Thank you guys for another wonderful experience.More

We booked for 6pm as we have been here before and it can be busy. On arrival to the table 5.55pm we was told that the kitchen closes at 6pm ! there was four adults and a 1 year old. We had traveled over to...visit family and we just wanted to relax. Wished we had known this at the time of booking that the kitchen closed at 6. we just wanted to have starters a few drinks then mains , a bottle of wine and then pudding and coffees. We felt like we was in there way ! We wont be going again. Its not all about the food , its the whole complete thing about visiting a place.More

First impressions really good. Drinks served and ordered light lunch. There is an open kitchen where you can see the food pass. Unfortunately part of our order sat there for approx 10mins and the rest at least 5 mins. We sat looking at it. It...was ignored by serving staff and even more orders were added the the pass which was getting very full. Staff were busy serving drinks but seemed to get priorities wrong. When food did eventually arrived it was extremely tasty but only warm. Such a shame. I would return, if only to see if our experience has been taken on board!More

Called here for a drink after driving from Yorkshire before visiting the village church. Very welcoming staff, nice atmosphere and clean establishment, nothing to dislike. Worth a visit.

We had Sunday lunch here this weekend. The starters were ok, but not what we expected. My other half had scampi “monkfish” (this is how it was described on the menu). It was more like three very large monkfish fish goujons. I had the whipped...feta. But I would describe it as deconstructed feta crostini. It was a big portion and a bit over powering. We had a beef Sunday lunch and a turkey Sunday lunch both were very nice. The roast potatoes could have done with maybe another 20 mins in the oven.More

We, that is myself and my wife, along with my mother in-law, from Brazil, stopped in the RoyalOak, after a trip to see Sherwood forest, a that was organisedso my mum in-law could see tjhe Major Oak, and to visit the forest. A very worthwile...visit, much enjoyed, after a lot of walking and some archery for me, great trip. We wanted to get some food, I knew the Royal Oak was going to be good after seeing some great reviews. i wasnt disappointed, although it was very quiet. We were welcomed as we enetered, ordered drinks, a very nice pint or Tiger and then ordered food, again not disappointed at all, it was very quick in arriving, te staff was very friendly and couldnt do enough to help, the food was so tasty and hot, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, my wife and mum in-law had the meat pie, very filling and hot, plentiful portions. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon after a lovely day wandering around Edwinstowe, including a visit to St.Marys church, what a beautiful peaceful place. Really looking forward to going back, even through its an hour and half drive!! The church even had a leaflet in portuguese for my mum in-law, who doesnt speak a word of english. Great trip Heartily recommended Thankyou so much for a lovely trip Paul Boston LincolnshireMore

Advertises as a dog friendly quiz night, but no mention of booking a table and not allowed to sit in the dining area even though no food was being served, and it has a wooden floor. Nonsense! If food was being served I could understand...but not on a quiz night when there are no empty tables anywhere else. Lost five future customers who have recently moved to the village.More
