Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Susc a shame you were Discussed. Weird how chips cooked at the same time only one portion were overcooked. Probably a god job your not coming back as your parking in the car park was pretty awful

We came here for the first time, with our daughter for lovely meal on Saturday night. The girls had a "rock" steak with baked vegetables and I had a chicken breast with bacon and cheese, it was all beautiful. The service from the landlord and...the two ladies was great too, thank you very much! The guest beer "Abingdon Bridge" was also in impeccable condition, so it would be rude not to have a second one, wouldn't it! All in all a very enjoyable evening, thank you very much Nick, Tina and the Team! We'll be back!More

Love the character of this pub and staff friendly. Not great if your chosen beverage is wine, unless you are a fan of the Australian grape. Lots of lovely sounding menu choices. Had the Ocean Platter which I felt was a bit bland, wish I...had chosen the chilli burger. Typical really!More

Thankyou for your review. Unfortunately our boiler packed up last night and we did our best with 4 fan heaters in the restaurant. We have many gluten free and celiac options available and will retrain our staff in how to let the customers what we...More

Great place to go for a drink with friends, but the menu is old and outdated. The menu is huge meaning almost everything is either deep-fried or not cooked fresh, and often comes smothered in commercial sauces and flavourings. Homemade is not a word you...see on the menu. You can only get a steak (beef, ostrich, kangaroo) if you have it on a hot stone - how '80's is that! I cannot remember when the menu was last changed. This is a potential gem of a place that would become a real diamond with just a few changes like a couple of homemade specials (one veggie, one meat or fish) each week.More

Best ever chips and beer after an autumnal Tuesday evening bike ride. Bit chilly so had to put the heater on in the pod, first time this year. Funky sauce helped to keep warm too

Four of us had a late lunch at The Spread yesterday, 17th September. The meal was outstanding. My husband chose the ribs and the meat was falling off the bone as he picked them up. I had Oriental Salmon which was delicious. Other meals were...chicken madras and Mango Surprise, also very good indeed. Starters and deserts were also very tasty. The two waitresses were very friendly and cheerful, which makes a big difference. We are fairly new to this Pub but will certainly be making return visits.More

We visited today for Sunday lunch. There was 9 of us and a mix of adults and children. The atmosphere was very relaxed and we didn’t feel at all rushed. The service was good and there was a button on the table to press if...you needed someone’s attention. The menu was huge, so much choice. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and the portions were generous. We felt it was reasonably priced for what we had and wouldn’t hesitate to return.More

Back in the 60's and 70's my parents ran this pub, and I haven't been back since they left in 1980. So this was as much about curiosity as having a family meal. I was really pleasantly surprised at the variety of beer available, including...Morlands Bitter, which I had for old times sake. The menu was pretty extensive, which can mean poorer quality meals, but definitely not in this case. One of our group had the hot rock steak option, and enjoyed the novelty of cooking their own dinner at the table. The staff were excellent. I particularly liked the buzzer on the table to attract their attention, I'm glad we made the effort (a 70 mile drive) to have a family get together at this venue. It won't be the last. Well done Spread Eagle.More

Disappointment when we visited tonight. Recent menu changes have resulted in a much reduced choice of eating options. Fish and chips is no longer on the menu! (Waitress said that cod was too expensive) Lamb is no longer on the menu - a real disappointment...since there were previously 3 superb slow cooked lamb dishes available. Pumpkin Vegetarian lasagna has now gone - to be replaced by a soya mince option. We have been regular casual visitors for a number of years but the reduced choice will inevitable lead to fewer visits. The food we did have was however still nicely presented and good.More
