Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We’ve ordered an Indian takeaway from Spice Valley on the last 2 Saturday nights, the food is exceptional! They give generous portions and the food is always delivered hot! Can’t fault them.

Restaurants are all about great quality food, which don't get me wrong Spice Valley definitely offers, but the staff is really what makes it. Visited for the first time today and can't believe, living in Abingdon 6 years, i haven't eaten there sooner. The restaurant...was faultless.More

Customer Service & Venue: We ordered a takeaway via telephone. The gentleman on the other end was very polite and friendly. He was able to give advice on the dishes as well as ingredients and dietary information. He spoke very good English (should be no...issues ordering for those whom are hard of hearing). The meal took them around 35-40 minutes to prepare, which seems like a reasonable time, considering the meal was ordered at around 18:45 on a Thursday evening. When collecting the order, the environment seemed clean and spacious and there was ample amount of parking available. In our personal opinion, this would be a nice Indian restaurant to come to for a first date or for an adult or family birthday celebration. The dimmed lights and spacious floor plan give it a very relaxed and romantic vibe. Meal: The order was as follows; Lamb Bahari, Chicken Makanwalla (their version of a butter chicken), Pilau Rice, Peshwari Naan, Shish Kebab & a Niramish. Reviews for the meals, as follows; Lamb Bahari - A nicely balanced lamb dish with green peppers and onions, herbs and spices. This provides a good selection for those who like lamb dishes, but prefer that more authentic lamb, rather than the typical curry sauce. The portion size was very good, as was the taste. The only negative was that there was a bit too much oil in the dish. Rating: 4/5 Chicken Makanwalla (butter chicken) - This is their version of a butter chicken, which is said to be marinaded in butter sauce and cooked with fresh cream. In our experience, butter chicken is usually a lot more creamy, and has a smoother texture. This seemed very similar to a chicken tikka masala. It still tasted fantastic, but for those wanting more of a creamy dish we would recommend either a pasanda or perhaps a korma. Rating: 3/5 Niramish - This was recommended by the gentleman and this was essentially an indian stir fry. A lot of flavour and heavily fragrance with Indian spices. The vegetables were basically the same as your microwaved bag ones, but cooked in authentic indian spices. Tasted good and was nice to get some extra veg in the dinner. Rating: 4/5 Shish Kebab - Like most shish kebabs, it had the usual ingredients; minced lamb, herbs and spices and was barbered. It was tasty and the portion size was good as there were two 10 - 12cm pieces. Rating: 4/5 Peshwari Naan - Naan bread with coconut. This tasted nice and wasn't overly oily like some can be. However, it was slightly overcooked. Portion size was good could easily be shared between two. Rating: 3/5. Pilau Rice - A very large portion of rice, ordered two but would only need one in future. No rating needed, it was just rice after all... Experience: This was a good Indian takeaway and we will be back to try more of their cuisine in the future. Next time, I think we will dine in for a more authentic experience but we would recommend this Indian if you were to chose one within the Abingdon vicinity. They have a large selection of foods available on their menu so there really is something for all and there is a good selection for those with dietary preferences.More

We are fussy eaters particularly with Indian food. This restaurant exceeded all expectations for some of the best Indian food we’ve experienced. Service was friendly and quick. We will definitely be back!

We have literally just finished a take away meal from Spice Valley. It is the first time I have used the restaurant in several years, for no reason other than being in the habit of using the other very good Indian restaurants that Abingdon has...to offer. I would just like to say that the service was very friendly and the restaurant looks really smart. The food was excellent and it was keenly priced with a 20% discount for collecting the food myself. I had a garlic and chilli chicken which was spot on; plenty of heat and very tasty. We also had a couple of naan breads which were also very good. Thank you. We will certainly be using the restaurant again.More

A nice restaurant with a cat and interesting choice of meals. Car parking opposite in...the car park. Buses to Oxford from just outside. Every single meal here is fantastic. The food is truly delicious. If you want something really special have the Kurgee Lamb (you need to order 24 hours in advance, but it’s more than worth the wait!). I tried this to celebrate my 18th birthday and...my family have been back time and again since to celebrate various birthdays, anniversaries, and anything else we can think of! The staff are always friendly and helpful, and greet you with a big smile.More
