Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked for a meal with friends mid week but arrived to find there was no reserved table and the pub was busy with drinkers and people playing pool. We had looked at the menu online and my friend who booked was told that the menu...would be the same on the day. It was similar but the chicken bites did not appear to have a choice of sauces unlike the online menu and there were differences like the bites not being described as chicken thighs or the chips being homemade/rustic. Friends still decided on the chicken bites but when the food arrived we were very disappointed. The fries looked pale and appeared to be very similar to branded frozen oven chips you buy in supermarkets presented on their own in a white bowl. The breaded chicken bites, in a separate white bowl, arrived with no sauce whatsoever (menu said spicy sauce I believe) and looked very unappealing. We queried where the sauce was with the lad who was serving us and he seemed very perplexed by our request! He went back in to the kitchen and came back with some sauce drizzled over the top. The chicken bites/nuggets were dry and tasteless, my burger was ok but with pale fries and there was no care over the presentation. Plonked on to cheap white plates and bowls. I don’t know if it was because it was mid week but the photos on the website did not represent what we were served! We also had a dog jumping up when we were trying to eat. It is probably a good drinkers pub but the food was pretty poor. I wish I’d taken photos to show the difference in what we were served and what was advertised online!More

Unusual review to follow, but thought I’d post a review to assist anyone thinking of The Waggon as a venue for a funeral wake/celebration of life or any other type of function. Sadly I’ve been here twice over the last year to attend two funeral wakes/celebration...of life functions. The venue is perfect as they have a large room that can be adapted perfectly. Staff are helpful & on hand. Buffet food was good & plentiful. Only comment I would add is there was a serious lack of crockery, just a suggestion that perhaps some good quality recyclable plates would be a good idea, preferable to using saucers or bowls for buffet savouries. Good location & would recommend.More

Disappointing meal for price found the food very average and no imagination to tantalise the tastebuds. Was hoping for at least homemade chips! Won't be going back again. Can't fault the staff who were welcoming and friendly.

Lovely food and great service. We had starter, main and desert which were all good portions. The pub is dog friendly and even gave our dog a doggy meal! We will definitely visit again.

Our family catch up was made extra special by the fabulous food, personal service and friendly atmosphere. As a Coeliac I am always a little worried when eating out somewhere new but I was totally reassured by the staff ( the chef came to the...table to talk through my gluten free options) and I could not fault the wonderful meal. We will be returning soon. Thank you #teamwaggonandhorses.More

Fabulous evening relaxing on a sofa by a roaring fire as chef cooked our meal. Great menu and quite honestly my chicken couldn’t have been more moist if it had died from drowning. Excellent wine list - we chose an English wine which was very...nice! Back to the fireside for coffee. Perfect evening. Thanks for looking after usMore

We live in London but travel to Southmoor regularly, and booked this restaurant with slight misgivings having had some poor experiences in the past. But since its takeover, we have now visited three times and I feel I have to write a review in the...hope that others can appreciate the amazing transformation. The facility has been upgraded to become a welcoming and stylish place, somewhere to relax and enjoy friends and conversation, the hospitality and service are friendly and efficient, and the food!......I don't know who is the chef, but he or she is nothing short of an artist. The menus are uniquely imaginative, and the ingredients often unexpected, but are creatively and deliciously paired. I wanted to order everything on the menu just to see how each item looked and tasted! The items I DID order were exceptional. The execution perfect, and the presentation beautiful. The party I was with last time tasted each other's dishes and the verdict in every case was overwhelmingly positive. I have rarely been so impressed. This is 5 star dining at good local pricing. Southmoor - you have a treasure!More

Three for dinner on a Friday night. New management have transformed the interior which looks very high quality. However the menu needs an overhaul and certain aspects lacked attention to detail. The menu could be scaled back dramatically to concentrate on great flavours and great...simple local pub food. Everything tasted the same and some dishes were sold out by 7pm… Also the gin offering needs improving eg. serving orange for orange gin instead of lemon. Staff are friendly but lack finesse. Improvements to be madeMore

One of the best steak meals you can have. Filet steak and fries and Caesar salad were cooked to perfection and were very tasty. So good that we are now booked for Sunday lunch. Seems like a really lovely pub, and staff were really friendly too, but £9.50 for a pint of Moretti and half a pint of cider is daylight robbery! It’s a sad state of of affairs when we live in a country where 1.5 pints costs...more than the minimum wage! Sorry but for this reason I wouldn’t be back.More

The staff were great, explaining the menus/specials and checking with the kitchen re vegan options. The food however was very poor. Maybe because we were towards the end of service, but the vegetables were lacking in quantity and overcooked & the veggie burger didn't taste...right and wasn't heated all the way through. And to be charged full price for a vegetarian roast dinner (basically just the veg that would accompany a full roast) seemed a bit much. We won't be going back.More
