Staff very welcoming and smiley, quick service, staff very attentive.
Visited today with my partner to meet up with friends, the menu was varied, lots to choose from, food was served quickly and tasted very fresh. Food was maybe a little more on the pricey side but totally worth it. We had wild mushroom tagliatelle and sticky toffee pudding for dessert . Could not fault it. Delicious. Passed this restaurant many times but will definitely be back! Restaurant nicely decorated and toilet facilities very clean. 100% recommend!

The dining room is rather sparse and unwelcoming although the staff were very pleasant and the service was good. The food was extremely tasty and well presented but the portions were mean, and expensive for what we were served. The starter we both had was scallops and smoked mackerel which consisted of two small scallops, a tiny piece of smoked mackerel which had been cooked and a tiny blob of sauce. It was tasty and well presented and cost £9.50 per portion! My main course was duck breast which was perfectly cooked but very small, a portion of potato the size of a fifty pence piece, two pieces of stem broccoli and half a carrot. My husbands fish was excellent and reasonable size but the rest of his meal was again small. I had creme brûlée which was perfectly cooked but served in the tinniest ramekin dish which was then only half full, three spoonfuls at most. It was served with a huge thick dry shortbread biscuit, perhaps trying to compensate for the lack of volume elsewhere. It’s such a shame that excellent food is served in this penny pinching way. I do not expect mountains of food and obviously prefer quality to quantity, but this was just mean. We had two starters and main courses as described, one dessert and two coffees, a glass of house wine and two pints of Guinness and the bill was £88.90 For this type of meal that is what we would expect to pay , anything up to £100 but for that we would expect a reasonable sized portion, these sizes were tasting menu sizes and because of this it was very poor value. I did mention to our waiter when we left that the food was vey good but all of the portions were too small. I doubt if we will return.

What a find!
We booked in here for lunch thinking it may be busy after lockdown 2 recently ended, but sadly we were the only people in for lunch. That didn’t stop it being one of the most delicious pub lunches we’ve ever had! The lunch menu is excellent. We selected the beef and pork belly and both were perfectly cooked and tasted exquisite. The desserts were equally as good. The pub has clearly worked hard to keep tables distanced whilst maintaining a cosy and welcoming feel. I couldn’t recommend this highly enough if you are looking for exceptionally good food and a lovely environment. Thanks to the waitress and chef who looked after us very well today! We will certainly be back.

Sunday lunch - not going to write a long review, just give feedback I hope the owners take note of. The food was good, portions fine, quality was high and well cooked. The frustrating (very) part was the service. The staff individually were all polite, and nice people, however the length of time taken to bring drinks, take an order, clear plates and bring the bill was very disappointing.
Before booking The Crown we tried several other local well known pubs, all of which were full, so we ended up at the Crown as they had availability and actually when there, they were only serving 4 other tables, and had plenty of spare capacity, yet the service was annoyingly slow to the extent that one couple who came in and were seated by the staff (so they knew they were there) left after 30 mins as no one had come back to take an order for drinks never mind food. I have no idea what the staff were doing, they may been busy performing other duties, but from a customer perspective, they weren’t giving service to front of house. Given the location, quality of food and well known pub that The Crown is, it should be absolutely full on every Sunday and yet clearly wasn’t. I suspect the two issues are linked.
So if you have plenty of time and are patient then go as the food was good. If you want snappy professional service then I’d give it a miss.

Myself and my husband checked in yesterday 10/9/2022 in the afternoon. On arrival I informed a member of staff that I was gluten intolerant and asked if that would be a problem at breakfast. The staff member came back after speaking to the chef and said “ we have another guest who is also intolerant, we have gluten free bread and I would be able to choose of the breakfast menu anything that is gluten free “. We dropped our bags off and returned later evening and went straight to bed. The following morning we went breakfast, I asked if I could have the gluten free toast as that is all I wanted, unfortunately I was told there was no bread as it had been given to the other guest who was gluten intolerant. Surely knowing in advance what is required a Good chef would have either sent out for bread or had more readily available! We asked for a tea and a coffee , twice, after breakfast but it never arrived, so we gave up and left The hotel is dated and needed a good clean. On the surface it looked ok, however there were cobwebs in our bedroom and on the window sills in the breakfast room, also thick dust on the overhead lamps above the pictures. There were only bath towels and no hand towels in our en-suite, for a room costing £80 a night I would have expected more. The staff were friendly, that’s the only good thing I can say. We would not return.

On arrival at 2.20pm we tried to order some lunch as the website stated lunch finished at 3pm.
We were told due to a busy lunch service they had finished serving and we had to find another pub which kindly accommodated us.
Not a good start.
Evening meal was a very disappointing menu, chips with virtually everything and just ordinary gammon, fish, steak etc.
Ran out of the starter we wanted and the one we had (ham hock terrine) was served with toasted dry bread., not butter. Not good, and the cornichons which are usually in a terrine were peas..
Wild mushroom risotto was tasteless with no mushrooms in it, and no parmesan, just a grey looking rice mixture.
Breakfast service was SLOW.
Said there might not be any mushrooms as they’d used a lot the night before. Not in my risotto, ha ha.
When we came to check out they said we owed £7.30. We were honest and said you’ve not charged for last nights meal, and it came to £88
Staff had no personality or any hosting skills.
Room was warm and comfortable but over all very disappointing,

Dreadful breakfast experience. Slow to serve and we only asked for tea and American pancakes. Took ages to even get the tea and the pancakes eventually arrived but they were dry and rubbery like from a packet. Had to request maple syrup to go with them. No orange juice and the toast/cereals table was empty and clearly not being replenished for 9.00am breakfast guests. Poor service. Left to get a proper breakfast on our travels. Room was fine however.

We went Sunday 2nd July for a roast dinner. We were taking my mother out for lunch. Our meals arrived and my husband and I immediately sent them back as they were cold and the potatoes were rotten. My mum said hers was fine as she didn’t want to complain but I could see that hers was cold too and the potatoes were covered with black spots, she was being polite as it was our treat. When ours returned, it seemed the exact same meal, still cold and still with rotten potatoes. I was told they’d run out of Yorkshire puddings but 5 minutes later a table opposite had Yorkshire puddings ! I could not eat mine, I complained to the manager and she tried to defend that there was nothing wrong with the potatoes (I will upload a photo if possible) Honestly it was disgusting. The waitress let slip that the chef had walked out! There was also an event going on. We paid but felt aggrieved and complained via email but did not get any response. We would still like our money back! At 18 pound for a main, I feel it was dealt with very badly. We spent 40 pound on drinks so all would have not been lost if they’d refunded our food. We all went home to eat. Awful!

We are currently staying here as mature couple with our young flatcoated retriever for three nights . The room is outstanding , the breakfast is of great quality , and we knew the Crown was on,y offering a limited menu as waiting for a new chef , but we enjoyed our fresh cooked fish and chips , minted crushed peas and home made tartare sauce on our first evening .
Great news that a new chef is now engaged .
We will return .

We have just enjoyed a fabulous meal at the Hopton Crown. Lovely to see that the new head-chef, Rav is working his magic in yet another kitchen. Absolutely faultless service from the friendly waiting staff and, of course, amazing food. The goat's cheese with arancini and beetroot starter was scrumptious, the mains were divine and the brownie dessert was heavenly! Finally, we felt very reassured at the professional way they have managed to both encourage and adhere to the strict social distancing guidelines. We will definitely be back! 😊

We planned a walking trip to the Crown but when we arrived I was told that the pub was shut (after being ignored for several minutes whilst the barman was on the phone). In fairness, he did subsequently explain that they were having technical issues but when I said I just wanted a drink before catching the bus back he made no attempt to offer soft drinks or any kind of refreshments. Perhaps ‘hospitality’ is not the mantra here? (I felt very strongly that if I’d been a ‘local’ then things would have been different…???

We stayed overnight having been walking in the Shropshire hills with family over the bank holiday. This the the perfect stop off! Friendly and helpful staff and fabulous food. Our evening meal was fabulous. Rooms were clean and simple, with whites and greys for restful sleep! Breakfast was plentiful and the Hopton Crown full English comes highly recommended. Overall a really lovely stay x

Had a brilliant weekend being superbly looked after at The Hopton Crown. We have 2 dogs so stayed in Clee Hill Cottage which was very comfortable, spacious and we enjoyed the hot tub.
We ate breakfast and dinner and both were delicious. What I'll remember is the quality of the produce and the cooking, both were of the highest order.
We were made to feel very welcome, the whole team were friendly and helpful which made for a relaxing break.
Not stayed in too many places that I would actively seek to return to but I would here.

The food arrived cold and the potatoes were off, we complained and they took it away and it looked like they brought back the same food and it was still cold. I complained that the potatoes were off (we have a picture of a disgusting one) but the manager proceeded to argue with me that they were fine. It was awful.

Excellent service and outstanding food. The whitebait starter was hot fresh crispy and delicious with a lovely paprika aioli. The star was the wild turbot with scallops and shell fish bisque. It was scrumptious, beautifully cooked and my only suggestion would be more bisque , it was so lovely. Lovely pub in great setting with a cracking chef and team.
