About
Situated in the heart of Oswestry, the Simla Tandoori Restaurant is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Shropshire and the surrounding areas. The perfect blend of traditional Indian cooking served with Shropshire hospitality, the Simla in Beatrice Street Oswestry serves classical Indian food. Celebrating over 3 decades of culinary excellence this family owned business has created mouth-watering Indian dishes that replicate the high quality of cuisine enjoyed by the army officers at the old hill station in north west India during the British raj, from which the restaurant draws its name.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely delicious food - a very good choice, some quite different dishes from what we’d eaten elsewhere, sensible sized portions, great service.

The restaurant was busy, we hadn’t booked they fitted us in after a short wait and keep us updated of the progress with our table, which was really appreciated. I had vegetable biryani which was delicious one of the best I’ve tasted. Service was good...too very personable. Thank youMore

This was the very worst takeaway I've ever had. Ordered it over an hour before we wanted it but when I went I was eating for 15 minutes just standing there, granted it was very busy I eventually got to ask a young girl about...my order she went to someone behind the bar who shook her head then this girl just walked past me said nothing and just went about doing what ever she was doing. I finally got to speak to the lady behind the bar myself she said I know nothing about it she asked a man he said yes it's here it cost me £30.06 When I got it back it was I was shocked. 2 starters. Onion bargies 3 tiny things A mix tandoori which had a prawn a tiny bit of chicken and loads of oil. We also ordered a chicken tikka masala omg. 3 small bits of chicken and loads of dark red sauce it tasted vile. Boiled rice half of a container we ordered a bread I wast there. Popadoms all broken and no source I called them to which I was told call back tomorrow. This is appalling please don't go here.More

Over the past month or so we have been getting a takeaway from Simla. I think we have had about six or seven and the meals have never disappointed. They are delicious. On top of that, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Simla has...become our go to Tandoori takeaway. Highly recommended.More

I had my first ever curry 41yrs ago at the Simla in Oswestry. I've seen staff come and go over the years, some memorable but none more so than the owner George. As ever the restaurant and welcome was fantastic and the staff appear to...get younger all the time or is that me just getting older? Poppadoms to start for the 4 of us to get our mouths watering then onto 4 very different curries. All of our needs were met and as usual the food was outstanding as was the service. The Simla is my benchmark Indian restaurant, it never fails. George, you, your wife, your staff and this restaurant are just the best!More

Really enjoyed my experience here. We enjoyed a variety of dishes but truly loved them all. The onion bhajis were amazing as was the chicken honey minty. Staff were so helpful and really lovely. Will I revisit next time I'm in the area? Definitely!

Fantastic meal and very reasonably priced. My partner loves a vindaloo where I am into much more mild food. Both of us were happy with all the dishes we chose. Lovely evening.

We had recently been to a great Indian near London that would be hard to beat. Simla in Oswestry was up to the mark and excellent. Great curries with large portions. A bit on the low side on heat, but that seems to be the...case the further away you get from London. As a local Indian restaurant I would say that you couldn’t do better. I wish they had a sister restaurant in Vancouver where I live!More

We visited as a party of ten for a birthday. The restaurant was packed which is always a good sign. The staff were very friendly and took our order for drinks and food. The drinks promptly arrived followed by the starters. All the food was...piping hot and delicious. The mains were very tasty and everyone on our table enjoyed. Two of our party were vegan and they had a wide choice of food and enjoyed what they picked. We will definitely return. Amazing food, friendly cheerful staff and a very fair priceMore

One of the best Indian restaurants we’ve been to. Excellent food, made spicy as requested, and with good service even on a very busy Saturday night.

Looking for an Indian Restaurant in Oswestry, we spotted Simla and were really pleased we had. From the moment we arrived at the door we were greeted as friends would be and throughout the evening everyone we interacted with was really friendly and efficient. Our...meals were delicious, promptly served and very reasonably priced. Part way through the evening we found ourselves speaking to George, the owner, who could not have been a more attentive and charming host. This was our first visit to Simla, and to Oswestry, and it certainly won't be our last. George and his colleagues are amazing ambassadors for the town. Thank you to everyone for a really enjoyable, and delicious, experience.More

Stayed over in Oswestry with the intention of visiting here for what appears to be a very good Indian. Arrived at 10pm, 3 people were just leaving. We were told takeaway only. The advertised closing time is 11pm. If you can’t be bothered to stick...to your advertised opening times then why not adjust them, to avoid future disappointments?More
