Booking essential at this village pub and no wonder! £12 for a traditional Sunday roast - lots of meat, at least six different types of veg, roast potatoes, stuffing and massive Yorkshire Puddings. We were warmly welcomed by young and friendly staff, and subsequent service...was prompt and efficient. We followed up delicious homemade puddings that were each a fiver, and then decent tasting decaf. For three, our bill was £72 which is a bargain. PS To work off the pud, I walked up Burrow Mump - gorgeous views across the levels.More

We were looking for somewhere that would accommodate 6 adults, a toddler, a baby and a deerhound and were recommended the King Alfred Inn as a dog and child friendly pub. Not only is it both of those, but it is also adult friendly and...serves the most amazing Sunday roasts and we could not have received a warmer welcome. The staff are friendly and attentive and were very quick to serve us. The choice of roast dinners was comprehensive and included vegetarian options. Never have I seen such a wide range of seasonable vegetables, all beautifully prepared and presented. If you have children, do not expect fish fingers or chicken nuggets as children are offered scaled down versions of the adult options which suited us perfectly. They even provided plastic cutlery for our two year old granddaughter who thoroughly enjoyed her roast. We cannot wait to return to Somerset to visit our family again and another trip to the King Alfred will be on the itinerary.More

This pub is a gem found seconds from Barrow mump. We had fish and chips and burger-crispy fluffy chips and a light batter with large chunks of fish-a treat for a birthday lunch. Plenty of outdoor seating. Very friendly staff. We will be returning to...sample the rest of the menu!! Ps the ice creams and sorbet (try the mango and chili for a lovely flavor combination) were addictive and low priced at £1.50More

Stopped by for a late lunch today and we’re so happy we found this place! Had the crab Thermidor and ploughman’s salads - both plates were empty by the end. Special shout out to the chips which were amazing. Also really lovely service, the girl...who looked after us was so friendly.More

Stayed nearby and our hosts recommended the food at the pub, whilst adding that the pub itself from the outside doesn’t do it justice. We loved it so much that we went back twice in three days! It’s true, the pub from the outside is...not amazing but it is very pleasant inside and all the staff are lovely. It is in a lovely setting though. The menu is extensive and our food (the haddock smokie and the pork medallions) were gorgeous on both visits. Other food I saw being brought out looked really good too and very good portions. The dessert menu was also large and very nice. The emphasis on the whole menu is for as much locally sourced and homemade food as possible and it really works. Good value for money too.A good range of well kept ciders on offer. I must comment on the waiters and waitresses-all youngsters, all polite, all pleasant-a credit to themselves and the premises. The lady in charge also a great host. I will unquestionably return here when in the area. Thank you.More

We stopped here for lunch on our way to Cornwall, having read the previous glowing reviews. We were initially very pleased with our choice as the location is lovely, with a nice outdoor seating area upstairs. Two of the meals were good, but the ploughman's...initially came with stilton that had blooms of white mould on it. I sent this back and then got served brie with bright green mould covering the rind and a hair on the inside. I chose to just eat the cheddar at this point, but I probably should have sent the meal back. More astonishing was the attitude of the chef and manager, who stated that there was nothing wrong with the cheese and I should have eaten it, invading mould and all! They stated that the hair could not possibly have come from them and implied that it had come from me, even though I explained that it arrived at the table with the hair. In the end, they gave me £1.20 discount on a £12 meal. I left both upset and hungry! Would definitely not recommend.More
