I had the tempura prawn starter which was lovely and expected the same quality for the main. My steak and kidney pie had a lovely short crust pastry lid but the steak was over cooked to the point of disintegration. My husband ordered the venison casserole. A casserole it most certainly was not. It was best described as a venison... More

I had a homemade fish pie with perfectly cooked vegetables & my husband had the homemade lasagne which he very much enjoyed. We found the dining room very pleasant & on a freezing cold night it was a pleasure to sit by a lovely log fire. We'll certainly go back.

In a central position and of a size to make it the meeting place of choice in this town, this seemingly mediocre hotel is a disappointment as a pub or restaurant, which may explain the lack of local patronage; although we did not stay overnight so cannot comment on it as a hotel. By appearances run with little imagination, and... More

We visited the Lion Hotel restaurant on a Friday evening, the restaurant was very full but there were free tables in the bar area so we asked the barmaid if we could eat there. Her response was 'no you won't'. When we went again the following evening people WERE eating in the bar. I can only assume they were friends... More

Unfortunately, this establishment requires a complete facelift. It is very grubby around the edges, absolutely no atmosphere in the bar or restaurant. Food average.

Walked around Dulverton for somewhere to have a spot of lunch and couldn't decide... in the end we went for 'The Lion' as it had a very large bowl of water for the dog just inside the door. Had a pint and sandwich with the obligatorily chips... excellent and very nicely presented. Angela who served was welcoming and friendly, even... More

Angela, landlady was happy to chat and give us local info. Very friendly and looking forward to the Lion becoming one of our regular drinking holes.

Arriving with friends for a long weekend we found other eateries in Dulverton fully-booked on Friday night but had no trouble getting a table in the Lion Inn - same on Saturday. We found pleasant surroundings, with a log fire, friendly, helpful and efficient staff and food which, if not world-beating, was good, tasty pub fare. We ended up eating... More
