Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked for Sunday Lunch on the hope that there was availability. Sean emailed back the same day and kindly booked us in. When we arrived, there was a traditional, cosy bar and we were shown through to a beautiful restaurant area which has the...most stunning views of the countryside and Alfred’s Tower. Our waitress was amazing and they had prepared a menu for my son who has allergies. The service was exceptional and the food was fantastic: Hot and delicious. I would happily eat there every week. I saw that some people thought it was expensive but for excellent quality food with great staff and a lovely atmosphere I was happy to pay £20 per head and then drinks.More

We planned a "Somerset Sojourn" of four nights away visiting gardens in the area, and picked the Seedhouse Air B&B in Shepton Montague (very good, highly recommend). The Montague Inn therefore became our "Local" over the weekend and we visited for evening drinks, an evening...dinner, and a Sunday Roast. Each time we entered we received a warm and cheery welcome and great service throughout. My wife was pleased there was Butcombe IPA Zero on draught (she cannot drink alcohol, but loves a decent beer) and I enjoyed several glasses of their House Red, which was very quaffable. The food was very good on both occasions - no nonsense, sensible portions, great quality, and reasonable prices. The serving staff were friendly and attentive, chef was happy to tweak my meals to adapt to my needs, and the general vibe of the place was just what you would hope for at a local pub! We hope to return in the Spring and will definitely eat and drink here again - thoroughly recommended. Thank You Sean and Team!More

We heard this was a good place to eat. In our visit we found it quite brightly lit and modern inside, with a large restaurant which on our was too hot and humid to sit in. Slightly Seventies style - not what we were expecting....The outside terrace however was very nice. We had to ask a few times for the menu but food arrived promptly and was absolutely fine. Note the prices are a little higher than most pubs in the area. The main disappointment was in trying to pay. We asked three different waiting staff members for the credit card machine and spent maybe fifteen minutes trying to sort this out. In fairness the last waitress was apologetic and did bring the machine without delay.More

We enjoyed the lunch. There were limited vegan and vegetarian dishes on the menu. The waiter however told us that the chef would adapt the menu if we required. When we ordered the vegan burger the waiter ensured that vegan coleslaw was prepared. I asked...for a vegetarian starter in a larger main meal sized portion. This was superb. One of our group ordered the pulled pork: excellent. The fish and chips were served with home made tartar sauce and thrice cooked chips. The fish was somewhat disappointing: rather dry and the batter ordinary and heavy. The service was excellent. Was disappointed that the neighbouring farm cider and apple juice was not available.More

Amongst the very top Somerset pubs for food, drinks, atmosphere, location and welcome. The Sunday roast is the best - faultless - plus excellent starters and desserts. Truly a gem. Miss it at your peril.

This pub was chosen as it was a geographic mid-point for us to meet with friends. Very welcoming landlord -Sean- excellent food and a separate comfortable dog-friendly area. I write reviews rarely, but this pub is worth it.

I ordered a free range buttermilk crispy chicken burger but received a breaded schnitzel. It was ok but not what was advertised. It’s the equivalent of ordering a fillet steak and receiving corned beef.

We had booked a table for eight of us and on arrival were welcomed by the landlord and shown to our table. The waitresses were very professional and our drinks were ordered from the table as we browsed the menu. On arrival of our drinks...we were ready to order food and did so with the friendly waitress. The atmosphere in the restaurant was calm, friendly and homely. We were situated near the window overlooking the lovely open view at the back of the pub. There was outside seating available as well. Our lunches arrived, beautifully prepared, cooked and presented - my choice was confit of duck which was very tasty and nutritious. We all very much enjoyed our lunches and look forward to returning.More
