Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Been coming here every weekend for a couple of months. Generally myself and my wife really like it here but there's a few issues now we've been quite a number of times. 1. Overcrowded. Cyclists come along - a good 30 plus and they all...jam inside to order. It's a very small place with only about 11 tables, so having this many people indoors at once is both a health and safety issue (I imagine their insurance won't cover them and it's likely against fire risk assessments), but it also means it's a very noisy environment as they're all talking and not a pleasant experience. Can't even hear my daughter talking. Not a fan of cyclists, we used to go to Fradley Junction a lot but don't bother as it's overrun by cyclists, can never get a table at the Laughing Duck, at the Swan or at the other cafe. It never used to be that bad. 2. Dogs. I think it's wrong that dogs can be indoors where food is served. Out of the 11 tables I'd say 5 of them have a dog, some even come in with 2 or more dogs. On the sofas once they had 3 dogs! We were there a couple weeks ago and a dog shook itself nearby and hairs went on my food. Disgusting. It also smells a lot in there especially around the sofas, of dogs. We sat on the sofa the once and it was covered in dog hairs. Disgusting. 3. Missing a few tricks. Their cake selection is quite limited. They include a tiny piece of a brownie with each coffee which is great, but they don't even sell brownies on their own! I thought when we had our first drink and it was included it was a 'taster' and they'd sell them on their own, but bizarrely they don't. 4. Rude people. Not sure if it's an Alrewas thing, but why do people come in and then leave the door wide open? Loads do it - kids, Cyclists, normal customers. It's getting cold - someone from our table has to keep getting up to close the door as bizarrely nobody else bothers, at all. Even the staff leave it open when they go outside and come back in. That being said, it's a great cafe, perhaps very busy as it's the only one in Alrewas, but if they sorted a few things it could be so much better. If there was another cafe though I'd probably go there instead.More

Been coming to this lovely little coffee shop for years and really enjoy everything they have to offer. Great coffee and nice food. Only thing that’s put me off recently is the furniture that really needs replacing. The big squashy sofas don’t look or feel...clean and the green stalls (seats) are filthy, wobbly and falling apart. There’s now a random rattan chair which looks ever so odd and very out of place. Please please replace them- a lick of paint wouldn’t go a miss on some of the walls either. You used to look really chic and smart and I used to enjoy bringing friends here but now looking a bit run down and tired. Nothing that couldn’t be rectified really easily.More

Slow chaotic service, waited 25 mins for 2 coffees when several people who arrived after us serviced before us. After querying the delay told we were next In Queue! No apology. Dissapointing !

Extremely disappointing. Service very slow, waited nearly 45 minutes for 3 scones and 1 jacket potato. The scones arrived then a couple of minutes later the waitress came back and took them away as they were for another table! The Scones were not homemade, nor...tasty and cold. The jacket potato dish was plentiful and even came with a slug in the salad. When this was returned to the counter to point this out they half heartedly apologised and took the plate from us. We definitely wont be returning.More

Pleasant cafe with simple range of hot and cold food. We had bacon sandwich and African hot pot. Both decent quality and tasty with granary bread. Nice ambiance with polite, intelligent young staff. Worth a return visit .

Friendly service, nice outdoor seating and good coffee too! I liked the relaxing setting. To be clear, this is in the pleasant village of Alrewas, not in Burton-on-Trent as described.

We were really excited to find this dog-friendly cafe and were looking forward to our visit ahead of a country walk. We arrived at 11.00, and ordered straight away. It was quite busy, but drinks took about 15/20 minutes to arrive (coffee/tea and a hot...chocolate) which we thought was a bit long but we then waited another 55 minutes for food. I had to take my daughter back to the car to get some snacks as she was so hungry. When the food arrived, the eggs on the avocado and egg on toast weren't cooked and were a slimy mess. My daughter didn't want to send it back as she was so hungry so she just wiped off the egg and ate the rest. It was hugely disappointing as we really did want to love it and wanted to go back again, but when we asked if it was usual to wait that long for food, the answer was just it's busy today. So it could have been great, venue is lovely and on paper the menu sounds wonderful, but service was so slow and the food not cooked when it arrived that I don't think we will be back for a while.More

So glad we found this place, it’s a hidden gem. The best thing is that they serve breakfast all day, so no need to rush out of the house on a weekend morning and risk missing breakfast by minutes. We all had a full English...breakfast which was so good that my son and I might possibly have had another one for pudding 👀. Lovely quality ingredients, well cooked, fresh and hot. Perfect. The tea and coffee were both great, and the service was wonderful too, so combined with reasonable prices this lovely coffee shop deserves to do well. We’re spreading the word already.More

No welcome, friendliness or smiles. Coffee took ages to arrive, we gave up waiting for the food. It's so easy to warn customers of the wait times and apologise if they have been waiting for ages. Never again !

Excellent Moroccan Sweet Potato Soup and Cheese with Chutney Toastie combo. Set me up nicely for more site visits this afternoon. Looks a vibrant place with evening music events sometimes too.

Could..be amazing Unfortunately this cafe looks after its regulars. It was out first time. There were 4 of us. We met at 1pm. Ordered drinks. Then food and drinks. We watched 2 other tables come in after us and be served. Then the owner said...she had no scones but served the table next to us with scones. If they ordered after us why were we told to re order.. They had just come in. We waited from 1pm till 2.10pn to be served our food. We will try there again but the way we were served wasn't fair. We spent quite a lot of money. My partner ordered a mocha, the waitress spilt it all over the saucer and apologised but should really of brought out another drink. Poor service. Its a shame because it looks like it would be a very lovely cafe.More

We were in the tiny village of Alrewas for a short stay. The Bank Coffeehouse drew us in twice, one day for the full English breakfast. Great tea, and the breakfast was quite substantial and tasty. Another rainy day we strolled into town for something...to eat because we just didn't feel like cooking. Great quiche and hot pot on offer. It's tight inside, and people tended to linger over their food and drink, making tables even harder to get. Once our table was next to an open window on a rainy day, not fun. Otherwise, food, coffee and tea all recommended.More

We got there 3 minutes before last orders on food but were refused to be served food for some reason. Don't state a time if you aren't going to stick with it. We therefore ordered drinks (Milkshakes and a Lemonade). This took 20 minutes for...some reason. A quick trip for some grub turned into a hungry long wait. Thankfully the drinks were nice at least.More
