Visited recently as it is under new management. A very old, listed building, situated near the River a short walk from the town centre. The Moathouse oozes character and has been respectfully and tastefully decorated by the new managers. We had food too and it was lovely!! Please be careful when reading older reviews as the new team haven't been... More

Very friendly and welcoming staff, but the food leaves a little to be desired. Very plain Sunday Roast and all the vegetables were very coarsely cut and rather too firm for my taste. It's cold and very dark inside. Such a shame. This place has so much potential but they don't seem to be making the most of it.

Met with friends and some had fish and chips, some had steak with no complaints. I however had salmon chips and mediterranean vegetables which was the worst I have ever had. The salmon was hard, colourless, dry and certainly inedible. It was sent back and another one bought out which was the same and I could not eat it. Would... More

First of all, this is a great building, with very helpful and friendly staff. But the food is shockingly expensive for the quality, and what you are served. I've had far better food at the flaming grill in Amington, which was also half the price. I don't mind paying extra if the food is decent quality . Such a shame,as I mentioned earlier, great characteristic building,with... More

I went here to see what the gin bar was like. The bar man was very knowledgeable about gins and gave us some samples. The place was very quiet, but it was a weekday evening. I think the building has great potential and I hope these present owners manage to make a success of their venture.

I visited "The Moat House" restaurant with friends a few days ago, after it had been re-opened after being closed for some time. The building has real character although it could do with considerable investment to bring it up to its previous grandeur. We started with four “tapas” starters which were rather tasty and then we ordered our main course.... More

Went with family, had tapas and mains, all the food was amazing, all fresh cooked. One of the tapas was fresh Calamari, best I have had in this country. Beautiful building and friendly staff. Hope to return. They also do vegetarian and vegan.

Went to the Moat House for a works party beginning of December, a lovely manor type house with great character. I since found out it is a Grade II* historic building located in what were once the grounds of Tamworth Castle in Staffordshire and has royal connections. As you look from the main road into its large carpark you are... More

This is not open at the moment as has been looking for new investment. Some plans have fallen through,so not sure of the present status. Wonderful building well worth al look from the outside when in Tamworth.
