I usually have the pear and goats cheese salad which I love however this time had a goats cheese ciabatta. I was a little disappointed as the ciabatta seemed very thick but the filling was gorgeous. My Mum chose a pizza and thoroughly enjoyed it. We chose the light lunch menu and added £3 to the deal to enjoy a large glass of wine. We had a coffee afterwards... the waiter forgot to ask what type which is very rare especially here. I gave us an espresso and we had to ask for warm milk. Coffee itself tasted very good. The whole lunch cost £24. We were comfortable in one of the cosy booths. I would strongly recommend this restaurant/wine bar but if you want late lunch possible go a bit earlier than 3:30pm.

I have been here twice the last 2 weeks and left more than satisfied. A new and fresh style of Italian restaurant. The food is amazing and very tasty and portions more generous than usual. Fresh top quality ingredients. Many pizza options are inventive and unusual tasty combinations. The cheese and charcuteri platter is beyond generous and one of the best I had. Served with a great selection of bruchetta with different toppings. Plenty of quality wine to choose from by the glass and not more expensive than buying a bottle so great for tasting a few if you wish. On top of that the staff is very professional and friendly and music is an electic mix from modern soul to old school heavy metal. I shall be back soon.

Spotted the 'premium wine tasting' when browsing the menu online and decided to give it a go. It certainly didn't disappoint! We called ahead by about one hour to book, and upon arrival a booth had been reserved with six bottles on display to show the wines we would taste. A glass of prosecco soon arrived and then we proceeded to sample three white and three red wines (100ml of each), all excellent - and accompanied by a HUGE sharing board of meats and cheeses specially selected to complement the wines. All finished off with tiramisu and limoncello! Incredible value and quality, with friendly and knowledgeable service. Frederica provided just the right amount of information and tasting notes, with none of the precociousness of some more formal tastings. A fantastic evening experience for couples or friends, highly recommended.

Opened the door and impressed with the interior, a friendly greeting, we found a booth which reduced the sound of the loud music. Disappointed as wine we ordered was not available but cleverly guided to a dearer bottle which turned out to be mediocre for the price. The menu is very limited and no pasta, settled for an over priced pizza each. Felt this was an okay glorified pizza restaurant, posing as a wine bar, charging West End prices in Croydon. Left leaving the bill and monies on the table, no goodbyes or thank you see you again soon. Will we return, he answer is NO.

Firstly, for a restaurant in Croydon I felt that we were paying central London prices. Secondly, the service was a bit hit and miss, although they did score a hit when a waiter ripped the cap off a bottle of wine for another table and I got splashed! Thirdly we were persuaded to have a Pinsa pizza which we all found to be a bit stodgy. On the plus side we started with a Suprema sharing platter which seemed expensive at £48 but it was impressive, and combined with the bread baskets, meant that we only needed one pizza afterwards to share between the 4 of us. So if you do order the Suprema don't order anything else until we have completed it. In summary, the meal was OK but I wouldn't rush to go back.

Dear Steve, Thank you for your review; we take all constructive feedback received seriously and are constantly striving to improve our service. With regards the pricing we are comparable with other restaurants on the parade in George Street; in terms of Central London pricing we do not believe we come near the £15+ per pizza prices you are likely to be charged there. In any case we are currently revamping our food menu and modifying our prices which we hope will be more favourable to our customers. We do hope you will return and try us again. Kind regards,

The best place for wine in Croydon. There’s more to it than that but that is the main thing you need to know. There’s a good selection of wines to suit all tastes and the important thing is it’s not pretentious. You can grab whatever you want, grab a cheese and meat board or pizza and have a different kind of drink with friends. Would be ideal for dates too. Music isn’t loud, staff are attentive but not overbearing. Food is tasty and reasonably priced. Great selection of cocktails and spirits if you want to change it up. Do recommend if you want a classier but not pretentious night out in Croydon.

Basil & Grape sounds as if it might be an English wine bar run by Basil Fawlty. But instead it’s an Italian cafe serving the likes of bruschetta, panini, salads, pizzas and Roman style pinsa, a sort of cross between pizzas and bruschetta. A website explains how the pinsa is as site specific a delicacy as balsamic vinegar from Modena or the Melton Mowbray pork pie. I’m not sure how impressed the relevant authorities might be by seeing what looked to me like a pre-prepared product being microwaved. The Gianicolo I ordered with cotto ham, mozzarella and rocket certainly arrived very promptly. Nicely served on a tray the ingredients were fresh and the crust crunchy. A piece of tiramisu from a vast tray also hit the mark. Service was polite and efficient.

We had the wine tasting menu with sharing platter and six accompanying wines. Actually there is a glass of prosecco to start and a fine desert wine with the tiramisu so that's 8 wines. Each h wine is introduced by your own sommelier. Ours was Yandry. He was very friendly and very knowledgable it was great trying the wines and then pairing them with the suggested foods. Excelent value and a fascinating evening out. Thank you Yandry.

My wife and I walked in without a booking and we’re found a booth. The service was friendly and attentive, the wine that was recommended was very good and the food was really delicious. The whole evening was really good value for money and I would happily recommend Basil and Grape to anybody who likes honest food, friendly service and not having their pockets emptied for the pleasure!

Enjoyed a post lockdown meal with a friend hadn’t seen for months, she recommended this lovely little restaurant. It was perfect for a good chinwag over some delicious food very reasonably priced delivered with friendly staff. Definitely recommend and this may be a regular haunt from now on.

My wife and I visited on Saturday afternoon. We had the sharing board for two and a bottle of wine. The waiter was super-efficient and we were sitting with a glass of wine in our hand about five minutes after our arrival. The food was lovely and we struggled to eat it all (lots of lovely Italian bread in the basket!). All staff were very friendly, we will definitely return.

Visited Basil & Grape for my wife’s birthday with our two kids and were immediately made to feel welcome. Federica our waitress was friendly and attentive. We had a sharing platter which had everything we could want and sampled some of the recommended wines which were all very good. We will definitely be returning as I haven’t found anywhere quite like it in and around Croydon. Informal but lovey surroundings, clean and plenty of space. Well done to all the team there. Really enjoyed it!

We visited on a Friday night and it had a lively atmosphere. We were bought tap water quickly and ordering was easy. We had a sharing platter of cheese and ham that was amazing and were brought extra bread when we asked. The service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be going back and have already recommended it to friends

After an extra long journey we were unable to eat where originally planned due to no children allowed after 6pm being a Friday night, so we turned around onto the next road and saw a well known pizza franchise however, we loved the look of the food & menus next door to this & my goodness it was a gem of a find. The staff at Basil & Grape were so very accommodating to my 3 year old, our bulk of a collapsible pushchair & my crutches. We ordered our food and drinks, with the waitress being so very attentive, we didn’t wait very long at all for both to arrive. The Salad I ordered was fresh, crunchy, full of flavours and under £10 & my mothers Parma pizza looked incredible (and tasty) for not much more than a tenner. My 3 year old isn’t a foodie just yet so wanted cheesy garlic pizza but even that was gourmet standard flavourful & my boy took the unfinished half away in a box to nibble later at our accommodation! For 3 beverages & 3 plates for under £50 in the centre of Croydon, it is superb value too. We will be back again on our next trip. Excellent find and deserving of praise!
