Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I've eaten here before, so thought it would be a nice place to go with a few friends at the end of a birthday weekend. Called to book 5 days in advance, but was denied a table because our party size was 9 (apparently, max...6). Queried and was informed that larger parties were not permitted because the kitchen "would become overwhelmed". No offer of a compromise (pre-order / put us on a reduced menu / stagger the ordering process on the night) - just a straight refusal. Pleased to say that the Prince of Wales (just across the bridge) welcomed our booking with open arms, and were able to deliver delicious food for 9 people early on a Sunday evening. Perhaps they have a larger kitchen.....!More

So impressed with this restaurant. Food was gorgeous- we had prawns, baby squid and shoulder of lamb. The staff were all very friendly and quick service too.

My second visit here and one of the things I like is the uniformed staff, it gives a professional look and I find it affects positively their interaction with guest. Real ale in good condition and a selection of 5 or 6. We both enjoyed...the Prawn pil pil starter, I follow that up with the Malaysian vegetable curry. It was well presented and full of flavour. The red house wine accompanied our meals. A good evening to end the Bank Holiday on.More

Absolutely terrible experience here today, came in a large group, after arriving no one came to our table for 10-15 minutes so we assumed that there was no table service and ordered from the bar, some of the food then arrived after 30-35 minutes with...the rest arriving an additional 10 minutes after that. Start to finish we were waiting almost an hour with no apology or offer of recompense, when the food did turn up it was extremely poor which given that the burger costs 16.95 was extremely disappointing (photo attached). We had also ordered water to the table that never turned up and we had no service during the meal, subsequently having to to make all drinks orders ourselves at the bar. After complaining multiple times one of the waiters not assigned to our table came up at the end and sarcastically said “do you want any dessert?” before walking off with a smirk. Seriously bad food, service and also even the beer was terrible, avoid.More

The food was excellent and the sticky pudding amazing! Service was short-handed but the staff was very apologetic and kind. We would definitely go here again.

Fish and chips really nice. Quiche was very poor. Overcooked and tiny. Not what I expected for £14 and nowhere near as good as it used to be. Confusing, as it should be hard to get wrong. Service was struggling but it was almost a...full service. We will keep the faith and try again. Please get the arancini back on the menu in the meantime.More

After a visit to Hampton Court Palace we arrived without a booking, staff were super friendly and efficient. We ended up having the Sunday roast for lunch which was deliciously cooked rare roast beef, with roasted vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding. The pub was neat...and tidy, as were the bathrooms.More

We were a party of 8 on a Saturday night at 730pm which is obviously a very busy time for The Mute Swan. Our table was ready on arrival. The service was spot on, even though they were busy. The food was excellent, freshly cooked...and served hot. Thank you Alesio and your teamMore

Absolutely superb food and always very good service whenever we go. We have had two lunches recently, a family lunch for 7 on a Saturday and a Sunday lunch for 2, and both were really excellent. The roasts on a Sunday are the best I...have had in the area, I can't think of anywhere that even comes close. The menu is the same both upstairs and in the pub but upstairs is more of a dining room and you do really need to book. If you have party members under 18 that's where you will have to sit. There are also a small number of tables upstairs where they will allow dogs, this needs to be specified on booking and they have to stay on the floor. We find that you do get a lot of family groups upstairs at lunchtimes and it can therefore be quite noisy. It is a light and airy room. If you have a buggy please note that you do NOT have to go up the tiny spiral staircase in the middle of the pub downstairs, there is a very broad normal staircase towards the back of the pub, just ask one of the staff. Downstairs it is a very characterful pub with lively atmosphere but somehow never gets too noisy (in my experience.) You can only book tables downstairs if you are a larger group - am not sure but might be 6 or more - and there aren't many tables of that size so you'll be upstairs if there isn't one available in the bar. You need to call them to make bookings for bigger groups. This is my all-time favourite pub in the area, has so much going for it and it's a wonderful spot just beside the river Thames, perfect for a walk after lunch.More

Great service from start to finish. Greeted straight away by I assume a manager and was given a great table by the fire. We were really well looked after by him all the time. He was professional and relaxed at the same time. Gave us...time to chill and choose our wine and food. I chose the sea bass which looked great and tasted even better. Friends had the chicken burger and venison. Both great. It was just a great atmosphere , great service by the guy in the blue patterned shirt and great food. All 3 of us are pub managers and it was nice to chill and enjoy our time and food and service. Fab.More

Popped in for a swifty, after many years away. Pub has been given a tasteful touch up around the edges and looks great for it. Wonderful manager on duty. New outside furniture and those orange chairs have finally gone from upstairs!
