About
Your first time here you might find us a little difficult to find as the pub is down an un-adopted lane in the bottom of a valley, backing on to the Bourne stream. "The Bat" is a traditional country/village pub retaining the charm and atmosphere of what a pub should be. An open fire, panelled walls, nooks and crannies, hops hanging from the old oak beams, cricketing memorabilia and six shining brass hand pumps for ale. Outside there is a covered patio area with grape vines overhead and a large garden with flower borders, a children’s play structure and plenty of seating. There is also a large car park.We offer a good and wholesome selection of light snacks, main meals and a mouth watering selection of homemade puddings and desserts. All our food is cooked and prepared in house by our team.Crossing the generations ,the pub is a meeting place for all and you will be sure of a genuine welcome

We made a very late booking this afternoon for supper after having a booking elsewhere cancelled at the last minute… all I can say is that the cloud had a silver lining! Warm welcome, attentive staff who were at pains to apologise for the shortage of key roast dinner components ie Yorkshires and roast potatoes! Although disappointing we could hardly complain given the last minute nature and it being a Sunday. Promise of extra cauliflower cheese helped rescue things:)) Whipped goats cheese with watermelon starter was tasty and plentiful but the garlic prawns in white rum were sensational. Roast beef with chips(!) followed and hit the spot for three of my party and my sausage and mash was simple yet tasty and beautifully presented. New York strip steak replaced with Rib eye steak at the insistence of the landlady as the chef was unhappy with the quality of the meat… really impressive customer service. Puddings of glossy chocolate peanut pie with salted caramel ice cream was as good as it sounds as was cookie dough brownie… supper for 6 with a bottle of Prosecco and a few drinks was £200. A truly great impromptu evening.

Our first lockdown outing since pubs reopened. These guys are working very hard to keep everybody safe but allow customers to enjoy a good evening. There is a one way system to the toilets, the tables are well spaced apart and there is full table service for drinks and food. This necessitates a high level of attention from the staff and they do it well and with a cheerful attitude. I thought the starters menu limited but the cauliflower tempura was very tasty and everybody else enjoyed their smoked mackerel. My main course hake was lovely, particularly the samphire and pea shoots that came with it and the mushy pea fritters. I also had a side of chips, didn’t need them, but they were delicious. Everybody else had puddings but I was beaten after the chips but the orange creme egg brownie was a big hit. All round, a good evening. We’ll be back.

I dined here with my family yesterday. We were 4 adults and 3 children. We chose the pub due to its more rural location, a bit more hidden away from crowds. Booking was nice and easy and our table was under the canopy. We felt nicely distanced from other diners and the one way system implemented for using the toilets was really effective. There was a slight mistake with the kids' food orders but the staff admitted fault and quickly resolved it. We all enjoyed our meals, the roast dinners were particularly nice and reasonably priced. I would recommend the Bat and Ball.

£9.50 for a three prawn starter??? We have recently been to restaurants owned by Alain Roux and Gordon Ramsay and by comparison they were great value for money! Table service was slow and we were without drinks for ages. COVID rules strictly followed which is great BUT we felt like we were an inconvenience to the girl at the door. Other venues in Farnham also follow the rules but at least the staff are cheerful and make you feel welcome and appreciated as a customer. After having the door shut in our face upon arrival we probably should’ve gone home and saved our money. Shame, as we loved this pub in the past.....

Disappointed with the logistics and service for a recent visit to bat and ball for food and drinks. Covid means things are v different but having gone to plenty of other places I felt this could have been much better organised. Arrived at 7.45 with 3 others. Efficient and friendly explanation of the table service Covid arrangements and one way arrangements. It then went downhill. We were told that someone would take our drinks order straight away. At 8.25 after various staff had scanned the area but not actually come over to us, I had to flag someone down to say no one had taken our order and we obviously order food as well. For some reason that person couldn’t take our order but someone else then did (and inevitably 5 mins later someone else came and we explained we had ordered) I then chased food just after 9 to be told there was a queue in kitchen. I get that, but reason it took so long for us was that others arrived after and got served before. finally got food at 9.20. Given food was two curry’s one steak and one burger it obviously should take less time. Food ranged between food and ok. I would have thought it was too pricy if we had not had the government 50% discount though. Obviously food service during covid is challenging but the whole point of table service is that you need to have efficient table service to stop people getting up or at least communicate when things going wrong or how long things will take. There were plenty of staff around but they didn’t seem to be allocated to particular tables and weren’t looking around to identify who Needed serving next . If someone had said when we placed our food order ‘ unfortunately it’s going to take a while’ then whilst that’s not great at least you know where you stand. It was fairly busy but plenty of empty tables so it wasn’t totally overwhelming. Basically it should take over an hour and a half to get food after arrival and it wouldn’t have had things been organised as others were served much quicker. I went to mulberry yesterday and that was a totally different Covid experience via app. Pint in two minutes. Food in 20. Despite less staff. It’s was a shame as people are nice and food is fine.

2 weeks ago, we visited this pub and ordered the roast beef lunch. The staff were very friendly and efficient. However, when the food arrived, there were two slabs of what appeared to be nicely pink beef on top of what can only be described as white mush, two tiny half roasted potatoes and a tiny, soggy Yorkshire pudding. The beef was tough and we had to ask for steak knives. As somebody else was paying the bill, we did not complain except to say the meat was tough. We should have said more in the first place but, stupidly, let them get away with it. To be fair, they did give us puddings foc. Be careful what you order, is what I say!!!

My Family and I visited this pub being told by a friend local to the area about how wonderful the pub and quality of food was. For starters we had a sharing nduja sausage with Camembert to which their was little to no sausage as well only came with four pieces of rye bread to which the waitress said they would be happy to give us more bread without telling us it will cost extra. The bbq ribs were soft with congealed fat with no bbq sauce on them but with a pot on the side which I would not expect for £15 the burger was overcooked and as a result was dry. We complained to the waitress and she said she’d tell the chefs to which nothing else was done about it. If you are planning on going here i’d highly recommended going somewhere else.

This was our 2nd visit to this pub The first was very good hence the second This time round we decided on the Sunday lunch menu . The restaurant side was clearly understaffed ,it took ages to get inital drinks and then take subsequent food orders Four out of five of our party chose the beef Keeping in mind this was £18 The beef was tough (most of our party left theirs) the yourshire was soggy the vegetables were scant We ordered extra cauliflower cheese which was more like milk than cheese We have dined at many other local pubs offering similar all at a lower price and all giving plenty of side vegetables separately. This is a very poor show considering £130 spend We won't be returning any time soon Recommended the chef and brewer just up the road (couldn't eat all theirs)

Covid restrictions well handled. Staff helpful and friendly. Overall good feel. BUT 5 Sunday roasts (pork, beef) were all disappointing. Served so promptly (even allowing for few customers) that I feel the plates were pre-loaded with vegetables and insipid gravy, then meat added to suit. Plates & food cool. Roast potatoes not crisp. Beef uninspired. Not bad enough to return it to kitchen !! We are used to better at this price. Deserts enjoyed. Sunday "Mains" menu felt limited: for fish only choice was salmon with beetroot, 1 vegetarian option (possibly also a burger).

Busted with me wife and two of our kids. I had the chicken and ham pie (my all time favourite) but was hugely disappointing. Serves in a bowl with a puff pastry lid (brown high to be fair is how they advertise it) but the filling was bland and tasteless and the lid was over cooked and chewy. Chips were oily as were those that accompanied my wife’s burger and my kids food. You know it’s not right when you leave and you still have that oily taste in your mouth for a couple of hours afterwards. Ate here in the summer (had goat curry) and it was much better than this visit

Came as a walk in on a quiet Wednesday lunch time. Ordered starters, mains and dessert. The starters were good. The Korean puppy was lovely and the beetroot and horseradish hummus was tasty. The Buffalo Chicken cob salad was good. Although very few leaves which was a shame. The macognese was cold in the middle. It took quite a while to get anyones attention and when we did, there was no apology and just an ‘oh right’. The dish was taken away and popped in the microwave. It returned steaming hot some time later. Still no apology, just a ‘that should be hot now’. As a result we both ended up eating separately. One of us first. Then the other on their own as the first was already finished. I ordered a medium glass of wine when the dish was brought back out. We ordered desserts that were very good. When the bill came, there was no concession added for the cold meal. We were also charged for two large glasses of wine despite having ordered one large and one medium. When I pointed this out, I was told that I had been given a large glass despite not asking for it and I’d have to pay for it regardless. As life time locals this was a really disappointing experience and will likely stop us returning for some time. A real shame as previously we’ve felt really welcome and felt we enjoyed good service and great food in the past. Maybe a blip, but off putting in terms of future visits.

Lunch for 12 neighbours . We had a great time. The food was fabulous and they catered for gluten intolerances and specific requests. Service was first class too. Thank you so much and I’m sure we will all be back - because we can walk to the pub!!

We had dinner at The Bat & Ball while staying in the area. Nice little courtyard area outside & a lot of variety on the menu. Food was delicious, lots of sanitising of public areas, staff were friendly & polite what more do you need.. would definitely recommend

We ate here as a large group of 8 with kids and older people. The greeting was pretty poor and no smiles or warmth. We were seated quickly and drinks and food orders were taken quickly. It was Sunday so we mostly ordered roasts. With some kids meals. The roasts were very average and the pork was not well cooked at all. Sides were overpriced and the stuffing was terrible and very overpriced at £4 a portion. The kids beans were missed of the kids meals which was stressful. The actual pub is nice and the garden great with a play thing for the kids but the food was below average in my opinion.

Great unusual menu, makes a real change from the same staple dishes in all bistro pubs. Prepare to loosen your belt :-p Mum and I had the Hake with mushy pea fritters and samphire, my partner had the burger and my dad the tex-mac. All were great and the portion sizes were also excellent. Lovely team even with the additional COVID work. Vegan, veggie and gluten free menus available.
