Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Been going to this pub for years. It has a lovely old world feel to it. They also keep the ales in top quality. The only issue is that it can be hit n miss on the service front. However a few drinks recently and...the service was friendly and efficient. I hope it continues.More

Visited the Running Horse for Sunday lunch today and to catch up with a friend. I booked a table over the phone, which had been reserved. Luckily I did, as the place was heaving! We sat up in the dining area, which was perfect, as...we could hear the unexpected live background music, but it wasn't deafening, so we could easily chat. We both ordered the roast beef, which was delicious! A proper home cooked Sunday lunch. Tender meat, crisp roast potatoes, and plenty of gravy! Reasonably priced. Friendly, attentive service made for a great visit to my local pub. I don't know why I haven't been before, but will definitely visit again!!More

Magnificent ancient little pub with wonderful, warm friendly service. We came for the roast on a rainy Sunday and the food and atmosphere warmed us right through.

Ive been many times over the years and its a lovely old pub with a nice beer garden. My experiences have been mixed because, how to put it, the staff can be less than welcoming. Anyway, the service on this trip was excellent as was...the beer. Keep that up.More

There's excellent local beer (Ranmore, from the Surrey Hills brewery) in this charming pub. It's a great old building with a splendid decor of old prints and pictures, and some good furniture, and there's a great feel of antiquity about it, and a fire in...winter. I love dropping in for a pint or two when in Leatherhead (great after a walk in the nearby spectacular countryside between Dorking and Leatherhead). I've never eaten there, but the food looks like good pub fare. Friendly staff, and it's on a bus route with the stop right outside. I can't fault the place!More

Very reasonably priced pub food. Prompt service. I had ham egg and chips £11, not huge, but enough. Husband had fish and chips which looked nice too. No sign of the grumpy barmaid ha ha

I'd read about the grumpy barmaid but an older couple were working when we visited, probably the landlord and landlady, and they were very helpful and friendly. We had a ham and mustard sandwich and a cheese and pickle and they were very nice. A...good atmosphere too and convenient for river walks too.More

This is our third visit to The Running Horse and it certainly won’t be the last. Six of us enjoyed a fabulous lunch today. The choice of food is extensive, we all chose roasts today and all said the meal was delicious. The owners and...staff are very attentive without being intrusive and the ambience is great. A jazz band playing in the background whilst you eat is a marvellous extra. Car parking facilities are on the doorstep with free parking on Sundays. We travel in from Horsham and Sutton and it’s well worth the journey. Highly recommend.More

Visited with a friend, enjoyed an excellent Spitfire ale or two, and a proper traditional pub meal. Nice old place, good atmosphere, friendly hosts. If I lived in Leatherhead, I'd make it my local.

Lovely olde worldw pub, real log fire and genuine good and gracious landlord. This has been my regular pub for years i work extremly hard in acutely urgent and unpredictable often tragic sitatuons in A/E. Went in for a drink with my friend on my...day off. Drinks were expensive but the worst of it was the positively resentful vibe i got off the young sulken barmaid with the long eyelashes. When you work as hard as I do and pay £18.00 for two large white wine spritzers: the last thing you need is a positively hostile stare, no banter, someone who turns their back on you, spends ages tryinging to enter the price on the till, uses the wrong serving glasses and positevly glowers at you……. Dont even know me! Cant you smile? Is your life sooooo awful? Mine is worst believe me: thankgoodness the kindly long serving landlord came over abd greeted us and his other elderly cusomers . Bar maid material she is not: smiley is all i ask for pleaseMore

My wife and I had a lovely lunch here after asking a local where we could have a good traditional pub lunch and we were not disappointed. The ambience is very warm and inviting. I had the excellent Steak and spitfire ale tender steak with...chunky chips and seasonal vegetables and my wife had traditional fish and chip and the beer was excellent. Very good service and the landlord and landlady were very friendly. Well worth a visit in Leatherhead.More
