About
Situated adjacent to Nutfield Cricket pitch with fantastic views over Nutfield Marshes, The Inn on the Pond is a quintessental English Surrey country pub. The Inn on the Pond, as a traditional yet modern pub, offers a large bar area for drinking as well as a separate dining room and bar dining area. A log burner and open fireplace create a cosy pub atmosphere on winters days. The team in the kitchen create great freshly prepared and cooked food form locally sourced suppliers. Food is served both indoors and outside by the pond. We are open all day throughout the week, and on Sundays we serve food until 6pm. As the Inn is situated on the main cycle routes near Redhill and adjacent to the Nutfield Marshes Conservation area it is also popular with walkers and cyclists. In fact we have our own wellie wall! There is a large car park to the side of the pub. Your host is Matt and he and his team look forward to welcoming you.

My family (a growing group of 11) and I attended a New Year's Day Lunch at Inn on the Pond today and had a most pleasant experience. This isn't the first time that we have enjoyed their hospitality, but, given their location directly between family here in Surrey, and also in Kent, in addition to having an enjoyable experience both times, it shan't be our last. The food was good and obviously home made in amny areas, with a broad range of menus to choose from; catering for my coeliac suffering nephew and selectively vegan snowflake siblings simultaneously, everyone had an exhaustive choice. The real highlight was the delightful waitress we were blessed to have attending us. I am very aware, and gratefully sympathetic, that people give up spending time with their own families on New Year's Day to look after other people's families, but this young lady went above and beyond to make sure that we were catered for and looked after. I believe that her shift may have finished before the end of our meal and her replacement took a long while coming to take payment after supplying our bill, which is the only reason I didn't offer a rating of 5, but this is easily forgiven on a busy New Year's Day. Should you have the energy and not find yourself in a food coma after lunch, do head out on one of the easily accessible public footpaths to enjoy some stunning East Surrey countryside whilst you burn off those calories. I look forward to returning in the summer to enjoy a couple of pints of Spitfire whilst watching village cricket on the adjacent pitch.

Wow, thank you so much for such a fully rounded and great review!! We try very hard to ensure everyone gets the best service possible and always buy the freshest and locally sourced ingredients for our home cooking. Shame we didn't quite get that 5th star from you, but as you said it was a very busy day. That said we look forward to seeing you all again soon and next time get that 5th star. Thanks again

Visited with my family after booking online, very excited to be back at the pub. It did not disappoint & so I do not understand previous reviews. In this very difficult time the staff were doing all they could to manage & control a very busy weekend rush of people. We were given a lovely table inside as outside was so busy, we were happy as we were out for the first time in weeks! People were turning up without booking which we could see was difficult but the staff were very patient and tried to accommodate all but obviously there were not enough tables to seat everyone outside & they could not please everyone. Most pubs are operating a 2 hour time limit on tables so they can accommodate more people wanting to eat out & bring in much needed revenue. There is more than enough space for drinkers on the wall or on the common land where some savvy people brought their own picnic rugs. Staff were run off their feet working very hard but still smiling. We watched them constantly sanitising tables, chairs & menus. Clear signage is displayed & hand sanitiser was available on entry as well as inside the pub. Tables were all 1 metre plus apart with no one facing a stranger so they had really thought about the layout. The food was amazing as well. A big pat on the back to the team at The Inn on the Pond, thank you for being open and hopefully people will be a bit more patient as you are doing a great job! We'll be back very soon.

Although it was the last day of "eat out help out" and bank holiday monday, and hence very busy, the staff were pleasant and attentive and although we were pre-warned of a possible delay in being served, it was not a long wait and the food arrived in a reasonable timespan and was beautifully cooked and presented. It was the first visit for some of us to this pub and will certainly not be the last. Well done all!

I visited Inn On The Pond today and was very disappointed with the food and service: we were over charged and when this was pointed out to staff they made it seem like such a hassle that we said just to leave it; the burger was served with cheese when we specifically asked for it with out; the chips were over done; the pizza that looked like it was cooked in a pizza oven was burnt; when the order was served a meal was missing, it took them 15 minutes to actually admit that the meal hadn’t been put through; the young boy serving us obviously hadn’t had any training, he was very apologetic and polite; worst of all when the manager eventually came out (after asking a few times to see her) she slatted and belittled the waiter, she told us she wasn’t even meant to be in today as she slumped against our table. She eventually apologised is the least convincing tone and manner. The worst service and food I have ever had! We did receive a refund for part of the meal but only after stating that a good will gesture should be made. I don’t normally like to complain but for the price of the food and the overall experience none of us would visit this establishment again.

We always appreciate feedback, especially if it is constructive. I am very disappointed to hear about your visit and will be speaking to my Manager about your experience and review. The young boy is indeed new and has received training, but on this occasions did make some mistakes. I will be giving him some extra one to one training to ensure these mistakes do not happen again. I can only apologise again as this is most certainly not the norm for us. As you mentioned above you did receive a discount, it was in fact round 25% of your bill. I would like the opportunity to show you how good the food and service is 99.9% of the time if you would to visit again. If you wish to take me up on this offer then please call the pub and ask to speak to Matt.

Such a shame as I love the food in this pub. We booked online for 2. At arrival wr asked to sit outside as there were plenty of tables in the garden and were told it is for 3 people or more only (we were 2, but had eaten in the garden many times before). We were sit in the second diner at the back. Inside they have all tables and apart from stickers on the floor and one hand sanitaser gel there are no other policies: the staff does not wear masks but more upsetting is that in an almost empty diner space they had many tables, and sat 3 families in 3 consecutive tables that also were situated nesr the entrance to the kitchen. So less than 2 m from myself and the person behind me and waiters passing by behind my husband constantly also less than 2m. Very silly as there is enough space to remove some tables and distance people appropiately. Honestly I do not think I will come back. Really a shame.

I'm not sure you are reviewing the correct place? If you had booked an outside table then you would have had one when you arrived. The tables you say were empty were awaiting guests and all tables were fully booked all day. Signage?! We have a huge 6ft board outside the front door which displays all new guidelines and sanitiser! Inside along with floor stickers there is a further 3 sanitisers another huge poster with all guidleines on it and various other poster dotted around the pub. We have undertaking a new risk assessment pre opening and complied with all current government guidelines, including track and trace. Tables, again all measured to be far enough apart to meet government guidelines. As I said at the start I'm not sure you have the correct place, but for clarity the above is the facts for other people reading this review.

Visited on an early evening. Had wonderful service from all staff but very disappointing food. We had fish and chips which was ok. It was the chicken pasta and garlic bread that was strange tasting. There ware peppers in the carbonara which was odd, the chicken was over done and it really didn’t taste nice. We should have sent both back but were too hungry. I’ve no doubt that if we had said something the staff would have offered alternative meals.

Hi, can I just start by saying are you sure you have given the correct star rating? It appears this is your your 1st ever review on TripAdvisor and 1star means you had a terrible experience by their star rating system?! You review does not reflect a terrible experience at all, in fact you referred to the service as "wonderful" We do not sell carbonara, the pasta dish you ordered from the menu is our chefs creation and includes peppers. You made reference also to the fact you were "in no doubt that had you said something to the staff at the time they would have offered alternative meals". This is absolutely correct, we all do our very best to make sure all our customers receive the best possible food, drink and service. It would have been much better if you had just mentioned to the staff when they checked to see if your food was ok, that you weren't happy and we would have been happy to accommodate and resolve the problem there and then. Please could you take the time to reevaluate your review and make any changes to the star rating you have currently given so it reflects your experience. This would be most appreciated by us and would give a more accurate review for others reading it to decide to use our establishment. Thank you

We returned for Sunday lunch on a very busy and hot September Sunday .we were made very welcome and the “Covid safely “ regulations in place made us feel safe and we appreciated the big effort put in by all the staff at this little gem of a country pub . Food very good and plentiful at a reasonable price Totally enjoyed our afternoon .

Booked on the strength of reviews and it didn't disappoint. We went as a party of six for a special birthday lunchtime celebration and chose it for the views given its location amid fields/hills. We sat outside with nice views of a cricket pitch. The outside circular benches are small and eight normal size adults would struggle to sit comfortably. As it was, it was okay for our six and we proceeded to order drinks which came quickly. The highlight was the food. We opted for lasagne, burgers, fish and chips and lamb pie. All were good with excellent portion size. The tasty lasagne was homemade and the fish and chips was done nice and crispy. The burgers came with a huge side salad - not crappy iceberg but proper tasty fresh dark leaves. The chips portions are huge. The lamb pie was homemade with crispy crust throughout and a very generous filling of tender lamb chunks. All food was in £13-£16 price range and excellent value. We couldn't finish it all so packed some of the chips and half the pie and ate at home later. The toilets are modern and clean and the car park ample. There's not much in way of a pond to be seen and the packaged condiments are a pain, though understandable these days. Beware the world's thinnest napkins which break apart far too easily. The service was okay but not outstanding. Inside seating looked darker and cramped. Best to enjoy this pub outside when the sun is shining - and you have plenty of space in your tummy.

Went for dinner today, the first thing I noticed when arriving was how prepared and kind the staff were with COVID measures, hand sanitiser as you walked in and staff all wearing masks and very professional. I believe they are doing everything they can and I certainly felt safe and well looked after. The food was out of this world, everything cooked fresh and full of flavour, I had what I think was called the "inn on the pond burger" which I can't fault a single thing about. service was impeccable and staff were very kind. couldn't have asked for a better evening, a huge thank you to everyone there. I highly recommend a visit.

I don't tend to write a lot of reviews but this pub completely deserves 5 stars. We were looking for somewhere in the countryside that served a good roast dinner and we were not disappointed. We had food from both the main menu and vegan menu and both meals were fantastic - make sure you are hungry as the portions are big but great! Brenda was very friendly and welcoming and spent time talking to us throughout the evening. So glad to have found this pub - we will definitely be back. Thank you to the chef for some of the best pub food we have ever had!

I went with my family on a Sunday lunch time to celebrate my mother's birthday. The staff were aware that it was a celebratory meal and were particularly attentive to my mother and she wad very touched by this. The food was all very tasty and we just about made room for the delicious deserts due to the hearty portions. There was a good selection of gins and I will definitely be going back to sample more 😊. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, I would not hesitate to recommend this pub to others 🙂

A wide choice of menu and well able to cater for specific dietary needs namely, in our experience, vegan and gluten-free. The food was delicious and, despite most tables being full, arrived when wanted. Brenda particularly, alongside her staff, were very welcoming, friendly yet very professional with just the right balance of attentive care without being intrusive. I have to say the garlic & cheese ciabatta starter was the best I have ever had!

Location was classic country pub In nice countryside, the pub was super accommodating as we were running late with traffic coming from quite far and we called and they kindly managed to still let us have a table At busy lunch time. Am sure this pub is probably delightful on a summers day but we were there on a cold wet autumn day and on arrival we weren't met with even the slightest of a friendly welcome which straight away makes you wonder where you have come. The food that we ate was fine and we ate it because we were all hungry but the food doesn't doesn't deserve any more of a review that than. We researched where to go in the area and this pub received good reviews so we booked it quite a lot in advance. However to be honest we won't recommend it and we would not return. Nothing terrible happened but nothing nice did either, it just wasn't great food or even a nice atmosphere. When we paid the bill the lady who did the card was friendly. We finally felt someone was nice, Hope that if you go you have a good experience. Perhaps they were having an off day when we were there. Who knows.

I was a member of a group of 10 that ate at this pub for retirement do. Luckily I was not paying the bill as the amount of food that was placed before me was not worthy of the price. I chose the 3 cheese Ploughman's priced at £11.95 . Unfortunately what was served was :- 2 cherry tomatoes, 2 slices of cucumber, 3 very small pieces of cheese, 1 pickled onion, a small pot of pickle, half an apple and a baguette. ( see photo) Other members of my group were also disappointed with the quantity of the food. I did not complain at the time because my boss was paying. However slow the service the quality of the food was good. When one of the group complained about the limp rocket leaves this was not really acknowledged or any apology made.

We are saddened that we did not meet your expectations on your visit, your comments were mentioned to the kitchen to ensure we get it perfect going forward. If you could of had a quiet word at the time with a member of staff, this problem would have course as always been rectified at the time. Shame you felt you had to come on here to give us a 1 star and bad review instead !?

Six weeks ago we had a family birthday party here. We paid £455 in advance for a party buffet for 26 people. We also paid in advance for 2 bottles of Prosecco as a welcome drink. We were promised ‘a really nice buffet’ but when the food came out, it consisted of mini spring rolls, mini samosas, mini quiches, 3 cut up pizzas and a bowl of chips. No sandwiches or anything fresh at all, and nothing sweet. There was not enough for the 26 guests, and it was cold within a few minutes of being brought out. An hour later, a plate of sausages appeared. It was obvious that they had run out of food for our party, but there was no explanation or apology on the night. The drink we wanted as a welcome drink arrived an hour after everyone got there, but it took asking for it over 5 times before the staff brought the bottles and glasses over. The service was shocking, didn’t see any staff all night despite the rest of the pub being relatively empty, a few tables. No glasses were cleared at all, and had to constantly go up to the bar to ask for plates, napkins, glasses etc. They didn’t even put a table cloth on the buffet table. When we emailed expressing our disappointment two days later, the email was just ignored. It took a further two emails for any response. It genuinely seemed as if the staff had popped into Iceland and spent £50 in the party food freezer. We were told be way of an explanation that this was their standard buffet and no one had ever complained before. Matt the owner refused to refund any money, just offering a meal for two if we came back. My advice to anyone who is thinking about having a celebration at this pub is DON’T! But if you do, make sure to do not part with any money in advance, and get in writing exactly what you are going to be served as part of the £17.50 a head buffet. The food has really gone downhill over the past couple of years, but we trusted staff when we were verbally promised a ‘really nice buffet’. Our mistake. They have no complaint or refund policy for customers, so I’d advise you not to part with any money in advance. Over £500 paid for a very disappointing experience, and none of our family or friends will be returning to the Inn on the Pond again.
