I’ve wanted to try Colman’s since I moved to the North East and finally went on Saturday for my 30th birthday meal with my family. I booked in advance and we were seated in the window, which was lovely. All the food was really tasty,...the fish and chips were fantastic! Our experience was let down however by the waiting staff constantly clearing away whilst we were eating/ still had drinks left. At one point, a waitress came and shook my mum’s drink can to check if it still had anything left in it, poured it into her glass and took it away. I know it’s a super popular restaurant and there are people coming in all the time, but we did feel like we were being rushed, even though we weren’t anywhere near the time the table booking ended. When booking I said it was for my birthday not expecting anything or any special treatment, it just asked whilst booking what the occasion was. However, whilst we were in the restaurant another table was celebrating a birthday and received a pudding with a sparkler. Nothing was offered to me, despite having said what the occasion was. This was slightly disappointing as I’ve seen that others in the reviews also received the same experience. We would like to visit again as the food was superb, but it would be nice to enjoy our food and drinks without being rushed.More

Amazing Art Deco building right on the beach with amazing view. We were recommended and it didn’t disappoint. We were glad we booked as it was quite busy for a lunch time. It provides so many fish dishes right from the traditional fish and chips...to so much more. I had the dish of the day (Dover sole) which was delicious.More

Wow, wow, wow! My only request for my birthday dinner was oysters, so my partner booked this restaurant knowing little else about the menu or the area. Everything was absolutely fantastic, from the first drinks to the dessert. We opted for two of each of...the oysters and the seafood sharer and I could not fault a single thing. The oysters were beautifully fresh and seasoned to perfection without being overpowering. And the seafood was all executed perfectly, cooked simply in garlic butter each piece was soft and delicious. Staff were absolutely lovely and more than happy to explain aspects of the menu and recommend drinks / desserts when we were overwhelmed by the choices. Perhaps because we were visiting from the south, we were also amazed by how much we got for the price we paid. Absolutely, absolutely worth a visit and we will be making a special trip back near Christmas!More

Top quality food cooked to perfection. A tad expensive but worth the price for the ambience and the great view. Oysters almost as good as the Gare du Nord hotel in Paris- but again not as expensive !

I really wanted to like this more but it really is quite average with above average prices. Wouldn't really go again and I am pretty confident I can cook better. Their chips were not bad though.

We loved it. Very busy for them, but service good. We placed order and sat on benches at the side area. I had fishcake, mushy peas and chips - it was perfect, freshly done. Hubby had cod and chips and very happy too! Looking forward...to going back today. Best chippy food we've had since 1998, always been disappointing until now! Though we may be very fussy :-)More

Excellent food - everything was fantastic good quick service and every course was delicious. Big group with a variety of dishes including scallops, prawn tacos and tuna to start then the sea bream fish of the day, fish curries and salmon - all an absolute...delight. Fresh, quick and hotMore

I think this was my 10th time visiting and it just keeps getting better the sea bass was out of this world. The first time taking my granny who equally thought it was beautiful. First time having southern fried cod tacos and omg delicious 🤤...my husband loves the mussels so much he gets them every time we go. If you haven’t been then go you won’t be disappointed.More

Wonderful place to eat for a special seafood dinner! Brought my family here for a celebration and it was one of the best meals out we’ve had! The food was fantastic, the seafood platter is fantastic, the cocktails were fantastic, the views are wonderful and...the staff were all so fun and brilliant! Couldn’t recommend it more. After having a takeaway on a visit a few weeks back decided to book the restaurant and I can only say that this place, the staff and the food are absolutely amazing, staff work very hard and are very friendly, food is on another level...with the grilled prawns being the best I’ve had, can’t wait to return and I will be telling everyone about this place ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️More

This is possibly the best seafood restaurant I have been to in England. Book to get a reservation. Great location overlooking the beach and a fabulous menu. As with all good seafood restaurants look at the specials board. We had the platter. Not cheap but...brilliant.More

We were allocated the Captain’s Table for our Grandson’s 5th Birthday! It was perfect for a special, top quality, delicious meal and we loved it. Our starters of Scallops, Local Squid and a delightful Smoked Haddock Soufflé were all polished in fine style with our...five year old helping himself to a taste of everything. His Nana says the Soufflé was divine. We ordered a Mushy Pea Fritter as an extra to share. Three of us had Lobster for our main meals which were tender and nicely cooked, Mum had Cod and Chips and our youngster a kids portion. The Cod was terrific- we’re a sharing family😁. After the fish we had puddings, it was a birthday meal after all. Panna cotta, Chocolate Torte and a Sticky Toffee Pudding were “necked off” with the junior taxman taking his cut from each plate. We drank Ginger Beer, House White Wine and Raspberry Lemonade. The venue is awesome with terrific views. Parking is close by. Service was excellent, we were really well looked after. The Birthday Boy was given a sparkling candle and the staff sang happy birthday to him which was a lovely touch. We’ve noted that some reviews have commented on the cost of eating here but in our opinion it’s good value for the quality on offer. Highly recommended and thank you for an excellent birthday treat.More
