Out of the blue we decided to try the legendary Huntsman in Dunchurch’s ‘takeaway’ carvery. Well we were a little reticent on how it would be served - would it be a pile of ‘mush’ in a polystyrene tray?! Suffice to say it was absolutely excellent and surprisingly not a pale imitation of their famous sit down carvery. It was extremely well packaged with separate trays for vegetables, gravy and meat and the the portion size was very generous. My wife actually proclaimed that it was the best ‘takeaway’ she had ever eaten and I probably would have to agree. Yes, £29.90 may seem pretty steep for a one course takeaway for two, but think of it this way; you would happily pay £15 per person for one course sitting in a pub probably eating pretty standard inferior fodder and then be obliged to buy a drink or two. So £29.90 for two excellent takeaway main courses of restaurant standard is actually really good value in my eyes and i would recommend anyone to order one immediately.

Arrived At the huntsman 10 minutes before our 8 o'clock Booking Staff were very helpful and went to see if our table was ready came back 2 minutes Later and took us to our table. Had our starter good then went for our Carvery The chef gave me three slices of pork three slices of beef three slices of turkey I only like peas and they cook me some roast potatoes were beautiful everything was great From the starter prawn cocktail to the Desert fantastic meal I would recommend anyone to go very friendly chef and the staff was friendly to.

A great Christmas meal with friends. We pre-booked a three course meal at the Huntsman for lunchtime. The table was ready fir us on arrival and we received a very friendly greeting on arrival. The staff were friendly throughout our stay and were really helpful. Starters were served, warm crusty bread was available, and we went to the carvery for our main course. All the meats and vegetables were freshly prepared, hot and the food was delicious. The desserts were really hard to choose between as they all looked so good and great tasting. Would certainly return.

Visited for Sunday lunch. It would appear the restaurant offers a 2 seating arrangement 12 and 2.30. We were offered a cramped table for two that would have involved disturbing the table of 4 next to us to have got up and moved to enable us to be seated and then had to disturb them again to go to the carvery and then back. We moved to an alternative table. The table was dirty and I had to ask for the table to be cleaned. We ordered drinks these took over 10 minutes to arrive. The wine glasses were dirty and I had to wait for these to be changed. We had arrived early but at 2.30 the reception area was full of guests waiting to be seated and queuing outside the door. The door was open which made the restaurant cold. Then a few members of staff were trying to service a full restaurant of guests. The queue for the carvery was then huge and not managed. When seated I asked for another drink this took over 10 minutes to arrive. The food is amazing hot and top quality meats and veg with generous servings. You cannot fault the food however there is nothing enjoyable about the restaurant it was a stressful experience. Would not return or recommend totally due to poor management and service.

Prior to the Covid pandemic I have been a regular diner at The Huntsman Carvery. For special occasions it’s my go to restaurant, Christmases, Birthdays, Anniversaries whatever the reason, we always left feeling like we had had an amazing meal good value meal with excellent service and entertainment from the carvery chefs. I accept that Covid has changed many things in all aspects of how we live today. Today was the first occasion when we booked a restaurant post lockdown and, as we had previous positive experiences we expected a similar service. Imagine our disappointment then when every aspect of the main meal was tepid, served on cold plates, the fried Brie as a starter was floating in cooking oil, my sons larger was spilled by the waitress on service with no offer to replace, the fact that it was flat and needed to be replaced was just another thing, condiments had to be requested, salt and pepper served in cheap sachets, we all agreed that we have enjoyed better service and food in lesser places. And so for £27.95 per head you will understand that we will not be returning to the Huntsman Carvery again.

To say that we had a great meal at The Huntsman Carvery would be an understatement. We had been looking for a venue to celebrate a family birthday at short notice and decided to try The Huntsman as we knew it has a good reputation for its carvery and especially its meat. With a vegetarian in our group we wanted to ensure that they would be looked after as well as the carnivores. The meal was amazing and everybody in the group (19 years to 84 years old) thoroughly enjoyed their meals. A few of us ordered starters, which were delicious if not necessary due to the all you can eat carvery. There was a choice of turkey, beef and pork, all of which were beautifully cooked. The yorkshire puddings were perfect and there was a good selection of veg including mash potatoes and roasties cooked in beef fat and wonderfully crunchy. The meat gravy was also delicious. Our vegetarian was provided with their own veggie gravy and roasties and the yorkies were also veggie. Several of us made a return trip to the carvery to have a little more meat!! To be honest, the carvery meal was enough on it's own and I was glad I didn't have a starter and certainly had no room for a pudding. The puddings that were ordered were delicious and the cherry panacotta was a real star. The chef at the carvery took time to explain the background of each of the joints, how they were prepared and was also very generous with his portions. Overall we were very impressed with our evening and will definitely be going back again.

Had a family birthday meal here on Sunday although it was extremely busy the food was excellent & fresh meat & vegetables we’re coming out continually. We ate far too much so much so we couldn’t manage the dessert but it was no problem as they put them into containers for us to bring back home with us . Would highly recommend it if you love a roast dinner !

We stopped by on our way to the St Cross Hospital. Purely by chance, we were in time for the first sitting of Sunday lunch. It was fabulous and great value for a three course meal. Friendly old-style service- and very helpful. When my son wanted something for pudding that wasn’t exactly on the menu, they were more than willing to create it for him! We had a child and an older person with us - something for everyone!

So we decided to have The Huntsman for dinner because everyone says it is absolutely the best food ever. It isn't. Whilst it was nice, there are problems. 1. The amount of meat you get in the full house was minimal. The ham was delicious, as was the turkey, but the beef was tasteless and the portion was tiny, and the sausage was nice but very small and a bit mushy. 2. The roast potatoes are school dinner roast potatoes. No crisp whatsoever. Not bad tasting, but not what you expect of a roast potato. And they weren't this way just because it was a takeaway, it's just the way they are cooked. 3. The stuffing was very wet and tastes just like paxo. Was it terrible..no, it was just really wet. 4. The carrots and peas were really good! 5. I enjoyed the mash, husband thought it was meh.. 6. The gravy was ok, didn't stand out but it wasn't bad. 7. The bread sauce is amazing. 8. The Yorkshire was underwhelming. All in all, we enjoyed it but it definitely isn't 5 stars, not even close. It is very expensive for what it is and there are other carveries for a fraction of the price that are just as good. Would we try it again, yes. On a cold day one day, but no time soon.

We've been coming here for ages. I've never been disappointed, and even when we have people in our party with allergies, they'll always make sure we're sorted out and can eat. Wonderful place, fantastic food, great staff. Can't suggest this place enough.

my partner and i visited here on 15 February and got the window seat, the food was fantastic and the fact you could go up for more meat if you wanted to was great. Fantastic value for money and will return again. Our server was cacci or kacci (couldn't remember how it was spelt), so i do apologise, but she was lovely, great service

Well we finally come to one of my best restaurants. Not because it an all you can eat but the quality and just wow factor. It can be a bit pricey on someday but there are different prices for different days. But for me £18 Thursday Night. The rule is simple. £18 pays for a Starter, Main and Desert but you can take Desert home with you (drinks not included). My Trip After they seat you they will offer you drinks. They will bring a basket of beard and butter. I never eat the bread as I here is the Carvery but it a nice offer. For start I always have the same Prawn Cocktail on a bed of salad. It is fresh and fragrant. The Mains and all you can eat Carvery (3 Meats) . For me it was Beef, Turkey and Pork. Get your Yorkshire pudding and roast Potatoes. Broccoli Cheese and all vegs you need. Top this of with a Gravy boat and more Gravy. A meal fit for a king. After 2-3 plates I'm done for the week. Desert selection is always different every time i go but the cheesecake is a nice treat the next day. I tend to get it warped and takin home. Pay for the bill and job done. I cant really say how much i love the Huntsman but I would say it is a worth try for all people who love Carvery's. Not to Veggies though.

If you like a carvery, this place is a must-try. Three course set price menu, which is great value for money in my opinion. The starter and dessert are brought to your table, from a great variety detailed on the menu. The staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough to please us and all other customers, plenty of the about serving drinks and the first courses. And now to the main event, the main course is basically a go and get it. The chef will serve you from the selection of superbly cooked meats. Our visit included beef, turkey and gammon, the portions were huge, if you don't want too much you need to speak up. The meat is accompanied by Yorkshire puddings, crackling, stuffing and homemade sausages. Potato choice is Roast, mash or both, help yourself! Carrots with herbs and butter, and peas with green beans and smoked bacon were the vegetables of choice. A selection of sauces compliments the meat perfectly, and the homemade horseradish is great. Now, if you are still hungry after all of that, you can go again, as many times as you like. Hands down one of the best carvery we have ever had. All homemade, no frozen veg and taters here. You won't go hungry here!!

Got a takeaway roast during lockdown restrictions and it was fabulous! We drove up to Draycote Water to eat it in the camper van so it was 10 mins or so until we opened the box, but the food had been packaged thoughtfully (gravy separately sealed in cardboard soup pots for example) which meant everything was still hot, beautifully cooked, and tasted delicious. Very impressed -we will return. Thank you The Huntsman team for a lovely Sunday Roast 👍👍👍
