Beautifully rustic decor inside provided a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Staff were very friendly, explaining to us new-comers how their menu worked and checking on regular intervals that we and everything was ok. Food was absolutely beautiful- couldn’t fault the steak it was gorgeous and obviously you could cook it how you liked it! Starters and desserts were maybe a little more expensive- but worth the while if you are treating yourself to a lovely evening! Wine offers were good too at £12 for certain bottles. I would definitely recommend you try this place especially if you enjoy a nice steak!

This was our third visit. We really enjoyed the food, as on previous visits. I had fillet steak and my wife had swordfish. Wine at £12 a bottle was good value. After the main course there was quite a wait with our plates not being cleared even though our waitress seemed to be unoccupied. So we didn’t bother with a desert or coffee. I think we would give it another chance though.

Hi Alan
We are so glad that you and your wife enjoyed your steaks on the stone, but obviously disappointed that you experienced a less than great service at that particular visit. We will be feeding back to staff to ensure that full attention is given at all times. We do hope to see you again soon. Best wishes

Oh yes! Amazing beef served up for Sunday roast. Been here a few times, usually opting for a la carte pizzas and cook our own steaks.
Rare outing happened on Sunday, so our group chose to return and have their Beef Sunday roast option. It was most excellent. Mmmmm- mmmmm. Massive Yorkshire puddings too lol!
Might need to take more Sundays off work in the future 🤭

The food was disappointing, below par for the price - we expected sooo much better. Not much taste to the steak, the peppercorn sauce was tasteless, the coriander butter for the prawns was a tiny portion so it's hard to say whether that tasted of much. The veg was swimming in oil but at least had some taste. The chips and onion rings were good. £20 for the prawns and scallops is overpriced when you only get a tiny nub of butter with it and no side at all. Not to mention that it was described as 'jumbo prawns' with scallops and only 2 of them were, in fact, jumbo. We shan't be returning.

Great evening at Stoneaged, from start to finish, really really good. Had the best Chateaubriand, melted like butter and believe me, having lived 15 years in Paris that’s unbeatable. Had prawns and scallops to start; all fresh and cooked on the hot stones so you can have them just the way you want (practically raw in my case). Attention to detail spot on with all staff, bar and restaurant, clued up and customer focussed; not just a measure of gin, slice of limp lemon and a bottle of tonic, we got good quality gin, juniper berries, fresh mint leaves with great service. Wine list good and well priced, can’t comment on the puddings as we were so full after starter and main but if they’re anything to go by, bring it on!!!

Thank you for such an amazing review, we hope you will be back again soon! We've updated the menu slightly for autumn - try our land and sea steaks on the stone, another great one to share.

Had heard good things so was interested to try it out.
Service was pretty slow considering you cook it mostly yourself, steaks were nice but nothing amazing.
I had never been to a place like this before and don’t think I would return as prefer to go out and then not have to cook my food.

We come to Stoneaged a few times a year and would usually rate it quite highly. A few issues this time:
I requested plenty of ice in my gin and tonic, “please fill the glass with ice then double it”, but the amount was barely enough. Why does one need to negotiate the amount of ice?
The wrong sauce was served, though quickly corrected when asked.
The wine (one of their more expensive ones) was served already opened and without offering a tasting. That’s never happened anywhere before. The wine was fine though.
Not relevant for this visit, but if you order tuna steak, you don’t get any sauces or chips. But the menu states these come with all steaks. Er?
Portion sizes for sides were much smaller than we have had before. Shrinkflation?
We ordered a desert and coffees. Coffee was served, but after 10 minutes I asked where the desert was. Another 10 minutes, as the kitchen was busy, so we cancelled.
Double espresso was charges αs two single espressos, ouch!
The bill arrived quickly (good) but incorrectly included two bottles of wine!
So why as many as three stars? I didn’t want to rate it just on one below par experience.

Whilst staying at the White Swan we ate at the Stoneaged Restaurant and we weren’t disappointed! It was wonderful!
A really lovely restaurant with beautiful furniture and excellent waitress service.
We had ribeye steaks, served with chips, a sauce and a butter and we added with 3 sides. The steak arrives on a very hot stone and you cook it to your liking, simple. The sides were big portions, all hot and freshly made.
We will definitely eat here again, highly recommended.

Came for my birthday meal with the family. Always have such a wonderful meal here and the food is always cooked beautifully.
Although we went on a Tuesday night, the service was slower than usual but we have been here so many times and the food is great. It was extremely busy considering it was a Tuesday.

We lived in Henley for 8 years until April of last year when we moved around 4 miles away, and whilst we visited The White Swan on many occasions we think this is the first visit for Sunday Lunch
It will not be our last visit for what was a simply stunning meal.
My Sister in Law had stayed with us the night before, and she was totally blown away by the venue, the food and even a live band.
Huge shout out for Zac who is a star, even assisting my Sister in Law who has dodgy hips, up and down the steps. Thank you Zac, you made her day through the personal service you gave her.

Our third visit and in a way our best.
Food as always was perfect, I thought the lava stone wasn't as hot as previous visits which meant I could leave my steak on, whereas before I usually char the outside, remove then cook pieces as I go. I prefer the latter but in no way did it dampen my review.
Staff have always been great but Zak, our host on this visit was fantastic, just a really charming and caring person with a great personality. I could have chatted away with him for ages.
Can't rate puddings as always well fed from the prawn, scallop starters then Steak.
Great experience all round again.

Decor really relaxed and comfortable. We visited on a Saturday evening and all but one steak had sold out by the time we ordered which went to my partner. Limited on gluten free options (chips and most mains not gf) so I ended up having the same thing for starter and main (scallops and prawns) which is why I’ve only given 4/5 but the food itself tasted great quality and we enjoyed the hot stones to cook our own food on. Our server Zack was really attentive even though they were super busy. Would visit again if in the area.

Ok, we'd not eaten here for a while but what a difference to the previous visits. Poor service overall, and having to chase the bill after waiting staff had disappeared is not what I expect in this sort of establishment.
Tiny portions of steak sauces and butter (should be ashamed to serve that to customers for the outlay) and the sides too. Too many frozen tasteless chips and the huge onions rings we used to love, now small medicorce offerings that was well overcooked the first time, and undercooked when we got a replacement. Thankfully the wine and steaks were ok but sadly we won't be returning.
The above could well be the reason why the restaurant was empty on a Saturday evening ?

As a family of four plus partners we were excited to try Stoneaged for a Birthday meal at 8pm on a Saturday night. Points of note below:
- We were allowed to sit down and order drinks before then being told there was no fillet steak available; very disappointed.
- Two of us that were going to have fillet decided instead to share a chateaubriand. Then told there were none of them left either.
- Informed they had 1 t-bone remaining, rump and ribeyes.
- Long wait for food even though there were 5 chefs on staff and only 2 waiting staff, who were ran off their feet but provided an excellent service despite the challenges they were facing.
- A pizza that had less taste than a frozen tesco pizza.
- Two orders of cheesy garlic bread that looked completely different, one overcooked and one undercooked.
- Eton Mess with no fruit in it.
- Chocolate sundae for which was just chocolate ice cream and cream.
The saving grace of the night was the lovely Amelia who dealt with the circumstances amazingly. We’ve been told they are under new management so hopefully this will get better.

Had a lovely meal at this restaurant whilst staying in the hotel.
I’m notoriously fussy with my steak so to be able to cook to my liking on the lava stones was perfect (especially for the dining party). We shared the chateaubriand which was a generous size for 2 and a good quality meat. Does come with a sauce, butter and portion of chips each but I would recommend adding sides. We include a portion of onion rings which were lovely and the chorizo, halloumi and tomatoes which was delicious.
