The malt shovel was recommended by friends, and reviews on this site. We were not disappointed. This little place is a gem! From the friendly staff to the excellent choice and quality of the food and drinks, we had a most enjoyable lunch. Parking is limited but not a problem. Booking is must!

Food was good as always, best to book early as it's popular, only down side is the lack of car parking spaces.

The standards for food here are high and with massive portions they don't hold back, I personally recommend the garlic steak or any steak here as I am fussy and 9:10 times send back else wear but here perfection every time. Don't be put off by the pub appearance the back room is the wear you eat, although do book... More

I have visited there many times with my walking group and always have the OAP menu which is really cheap and good value, the food is excellent and the staff helpful, you get a 3 course meal for under £5 and its very substantial and always freshly cooked

As the title suggests,a vast menu of Tasteless Quantity.Med Rare steak requested,it came out cooked like an old tyre, which in hindsight it probably was. Very little in way of training of waiting staff is obvious, management are obnoxious when challenged about the food, which I can guarantee the large proportion of is frozen and microwaved.....two stars are for the Beer which is... It's been a while since we came here last on a Sunday. And the common theme on both times and previous times before that is 'the meat is so dry' it's like eating crackers! The atmosphere wasn't particularly welcoming and we didn't feel encouraged to stay for a pudding. The price is very good and some elements of the food... More

The food was well cooked, tasty and plentiful. The atmosphere was noisy but pleasant as there was a private birthday party taking place in the same room, because of this we had to wait for an hour before we were served.I do think we should have been advised about the party when we booked the table to allow us the choice of going... We attend here quite regularly due to the fact it's classic pub grub and really well priced can't think of a bad meal I have ever had here. The staff are always great in there and if they can squeeze you in somewhere they will but I would recommend booking anywhere around the weekend! As this is a pub as... More

Visited with a group of 7 friends. Very extensive menu and good service. Good portions are massive too much to finish! Quick service and friendly staff. Only thing that was an issue was that it was really cold in the restaurant.
