Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Hungry Hare is a small and intimate quality restaurant in Oberon. Whilst only a small operation , the host and chef Edmond has created a lovely space which is comfortable, has a great personality, and is just a little reminiscent of the French small...town 'local'. A set 3 course set menu changes constantly depending on what is in season. We had a silverbeet and feta filo pie with the most succulent tomatoes, spiced lamb cutlets, and a pannacotta. All were so tasty and just displayed great skill whilst not being too 'chefy' (no tweezers placing fussy bits of greenery to be seen) A definite must-do if you are in or passing through Oberon. And it's BYO so bring something good as it is worth it.More

We had a wonderful meal at the Hungry Hare. It's home style food in a cosy setting. Despite a large booking failing to arrive which is hugely detrimental to a regional restaurant like this, Edmund was an attentive host and made it a very nice...evening.More

My husband and I dined here and had their 3 course offering - DELICIOUS! Edmond, our Osteria host was very warm and welcoming and presents his menu based on his travels from kitchens around the world. We had the smoked salmon tarte with avocado topped...with creme fraiche, hearty chicken cassoulet, finished with a passion fruit semi-fredo. Generous, honest, delicious food. We also brought some wines with us as it is BYO. We only wished we lived closer to Oberon so we could visit more often. If you're in Oberon you have to visit the Hungry Hare, you will not be disappointed!More

$50 for a 3 course set menu The risotto was gluggy and tasteless, made ahead of time and left to set basically. We had slow braised lamb in a tomato wine sauce with polenta - lamb was tough, sauce was watery and polenta was not...edible. Tiramisu was ok, but had no coffee flavour. We were very disappointed after all the good reviews.More

We came across this gem when we stayed in Oberon on spec. Normally this restaurant is open on Friday and Saturday, but we found it open on a Monday. What luck! The food was prepared with love as well as skill. On our visit there...were just three main meals and two desserts on the menu so choosing is easy. For our first course we both chose Sicillan lamb, which was luscious and fragrant (served with greens from his garden). For dessert we ordered one of each and shared: the panna cotta with jellied quinces and a compote of oranges and dates were both fantastic. The ambience is delightful. A definite 5-star experience.More

The Hungry Hare is only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights and bookings are essential. The host and chef Edmond prepares a 3 course set menu from what is fresh and in season. The food is terrific and the atmosphere of the restaurant...is very good. We went with a group of people and the the food was superb - French onion Soup, lamb ragout and polenta and a scrumptious dessert served hot and featuring drunken prunes. If you are going to/through Oberon on a weekend it is definitely worthwhile making a booking and enjoying a great evening of good food and friendly service. You are welcome to take your own wine.More

About 3 years ago Chef Edmond left Oberon and went to Berrima to set up his Hungry Hare Restaurant. Sad loss for Oberon who now had no fine dinning experience. Well now he is back! His restaurant operates in the Tourist Hotel and one can...enjoy yap as on Friday nights or a set menu on Saturday nights. His food is amazing! Some nights it is French influenced, or Spanish or Italian. Whatever he is cooking you know it is going to be good! I last dined there on 27 November 2018. While the entree was a pasta dish, he did me something special as I’m gluten free, artichoke hearts and mushrooms - heaven on a plate! Our main meal was glazed ham and stuffed turkey with all the trimmings. I loved the potatoes cooked in duck fat, so yummy. Then we finished off with a dessert of mangoes and strawberries, so refreshing. If you are ever there and he is serving croquettes you are definately in for a treat, they are to die for! Best food in the Central West.More

Staying in Oberon for the first time on a freezing cold Saturday night, we were welcomed by Edmund the chef with a glass of wine by the fireplace. The restaurant was warm and cozy. We loved the set menu of french onion soup, roast beef,...apple pie and homemade bread. We will definitely return next time we are in town. Many thanks!!More
