This is not the same Biwa. Now it's called Biwa Izakaya, at a different location and completely new menu. Gone are ramen, burger and Izakaya skewers and now it's all fancy, small, expensive stuff. Really annoying trend in Portland. Not.likely to go back.

Loved this place lots of yummy unexpected small plates. Our waitress was fantastic, explained the whole menu and what to expect. Also very yummy cocktails.

I came here for a dinner with a friend. The sashimi plate was very unique and interesting, but I felt it was not worth the price. The rest of the menu felt pretty average. Ramen was decent though.

We had dinner at the Biwa restaurant on SE 9th Street in Portland. It was a warm summer evening and we were lucky to be able to sit outside. The different dishes we ordered to share were awesome and very tasty. Everything we tasted was extraordinary, to the eye and to the palate. We were overwhelmed by the quality of... More

My husband and I had a delicious dinner at BIWA when we were in Portland. A friend recommended we go there and we are so glad we did. We arrived early enough (6:00 PM on a Sunday evening) so we could get seated. We liked the tapas approach to Asian food -- gave us a chance to try a nice... More

It’s hard to choose from the multitude of enticing dishes on the menu at Biwa. The super fresh Seared Oregon Albacore Tuna with Daikon and Ginger was exceptional. The Chicken Breast Yakitori screamed umami and was grilled to perfection. And the voluminous bowl of Ramen Shoyu Style was extremely satisfying. Biwa also offers an Omakase (chef’s choice) menu.

Great, complimentary tasting food. Portions are a little on the small side, though. You need to arrive right when it opens because it fills up fast. Not a ton of atmosphere- so great eats but not so romantic.

Really good menu and house drinks. The best part though was the wait staff. Very good at describing the food and nuances....good humor.....very attentive.

It pains me to write bad reviews, because owning a restaurant is a tough job. And I'll admit I might be guilty of having had great expectations, since my daughter's hype machine about this place was in overdrive, but I was a bit disappointed. I went there twice and had the Udon noodles once and the Bibimbop once. This is... More
