Al's Cafe has become a weekly family ritual. The ambiance of the restaurant area is superb with giant fireplaces and it's rustic classy setting. The bar area is segregated from the restaurant and is great for a few drinks and laughs. The bartenders are very attentive and wonderful making every visit more enjoyable than the last. When the restaurant seating... More

We went there on a busy and crowded Friday evening. Surprisingly we were seated right the way. The restaurant was very loud so it is difficult to enjoy our conversation. The food was very mediocre. My New England Clam Chowder was full of potatoes and hardly any clams. It should be called potato chowder instead. We ordered the fry fish special... More

Approximately one year ago, my husband and I had a less than desirable meal at Al's Cafe. We decided to try the cafe again to see if the meals had improved. Unfortunately, we made a bad decision. Following our cocktail, we both ordered a fish sandwich; the smaller one piece option was listed as fried or broiled. Our server advised... More

Menu is huge. Food is average. Price is fair. Nice place to visit to hang out with friends for the evening. Always able to be seated upon arrival.

Cannot find a flaw in the quality of food and service. Wait staff is very attentive. Food is excellent....from steaks to seafood to burgers. Great atmosphere and a central fireplace in the cold months. Daily specials are a nice bargain without reducing size of the dishes!

I am sure this is a local institution. I had forgotten how these restaurants imbed themselves into a community. The food is classic bar/cafe food with a little tiny nod to Italian. The wait staff is mature and have been serving there for quite some time. The decor is also mature. Comfortable as an old shoe....

Al's was better years ago. I ordered broiled fish with crumb topping. I got it but crumbs were raw and untasted. Pasta, salad and fish sandwich was good. Interior could use a facelift.

Good consistent food here... Not the best, not the worst, average. Not usually crowded and a good place for a large group, really of most any size. I had a grilled romaine salad, which I love. The dressing was awesome but the chicken was hard, tough and the core of the lettuce was so big the should have cut it... More

The menu is great! They must offer a hundred different selections of dinners, salads, sandwiches and snacks. It is not gourmet fare, just ordinary restaurant or diner food, but well prepared and tasty. The atmosphere is like a cross between neighborhood bar, hunting lodge and diner. They have a minimal wine list and a decent selection of beers. Prices are... More
