It has been two years since out last visit and things have changed with new owners. What has not changed is the quality of service and food. Our Sunday lunch from start to finish was excellent. All courses tasty and well presented by staff who...were knowledgeable and.very efficient. We will not be waiting too long before we return.More
If you get the chance it’s a must to visit the box tree for Sunday lunch . Perfect perfect perfect Tremendous value for money for the grade of food / wine / service received . We rarely write reviews as feel they are solely for...the “keyboard warriors “ but felt compelled after todays lunch that we must write a review . Well done Chris and the team First class . Only random thought ……. Where’s the men’s cologne gone from the men’s cloakroom ? Historically a nice touch …..More
Glowing with happiness after a truly magnificent Sunday lunch. Superb service and the food was faultless. Gorgeous scallops with cauliflower, a generous and perfectly cooked main of rare, roast beef, washed down with the best Pomerol I’ve had this year. (The 1997 one) A peach...soufflé and Australian dessert wine was the final hurrah of gargantuan proportions - I hope the quality of the box tree remains relative hush hush, so I can get a table in the future. Bloody Marvellous!More
We just got married at The Box Tree Restaurant and it was absolutely stunning! Chris and the team there went above and beyond to make the day special and it couldn't have been more perfect. The food was to die for, and out entire wedding...party couldn't stop talking about how good the food was. We had the wine pairings as well and that was fantastic. Thank you so much for helping us pull together such a beautiful day, The Box Tree will forever be a special place for Jo and I now and we can't wait to come back! Full marks from us across the board.More
Visited a few years ago and always said would like to go back. Disappointed to find they now only serve a taster menu. We were looking forward to choosing our dishes. Friendly staff but think black suits worn by all perhaps is a little old...fashioned. Sat at a table where staff were continually walking by - not a relaxing feel. Our food was lovely though not sure about the almond soup. Some dishes were a little too rich for my taste. Enjoyed our evening.More
We visited here for lunch as part of my husbands 50th birthday celebrations and were incredibly impressed. Amazing service and beautiful food. The canapés were beautiful as was the bread and butters. Starters of scallops and watermelon and feta salad wete absolutely delicious and looked...too good to eat! For main course I ordered the cod and my husband had chicken. Both beautiful meals. The souffle dessert was incredibly impressive and a thoroughly enjoyable meal from start to finish. We were really looked after by the staff who were attentive and couldnt do enough for you which made it feel really special. We can see why The Box Tree has such a wonderful reputation. We will definitely return.More
Delicious, beautifully presented food (we had the seven course taster menu) with service which was efficient but in no way made us feel rushed. A perfect dining experience for a special occasion. I do agree with previous reviewers however about the decor needing an update,...plus the background music was an odd mix of genres which did not suit a fine dining restaurant. Despite these I would still highly recommend the Box Tree and we look forward to one day returning.More
Five of us visited the Box Tree to celebrate a special occasion. We were absolutely delighted with every aspect of our experience: the welcome, the attentive service and the attention to detail. The menu was varied and everything was cooked and presented to perfection. We...never felt rushed in any way. Of course it’s not cheap, but considering the superb food and the quality of the whole experience, I would class it as good value for money, particularly for a special occasion. Whoever is the chef, they are of the highest standard.More
Food was beautiful! First time trying a fine dining restaurant, we had the meat tasting menu- there were lots of new foods we hadn’t tried but we were really pleasantly surprised. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly too! The only thing we can...fault is the decor- it did feel quite dated and a little bit tatty. Not the fine dining setting you would expect. Other than that it was a lovely treat and a must try!More
We went to the Box Tree as we wanted to finally give fine dining a go. We looked it up and saw all the credentials that it has as well as its Michelin starred reputation. We booked for the coronation weekend and went along. We...were quite nervous, never having had dined at a "fancy" location but was immediately relaxed when we went in and the staff were extremely friendly and not pretentious in the slightest. Throughout the evening the servers were pleasant and a big shout out to the sommelier who was polite and hugely knowledgeable in the wine pairings. At the end of the night, he gave us a small bundle of chocolates which was a nice treat after we were informed you couldn't buy them independently of the coffee and chocolate course at the end of the meal. Onto the food. Everything was a delight from top to bottom and absolutely no item of food which felt like an afterthought or a way to pad out the menu. The portions were very generous too. The tatare was flavourful and rich with a lovely sauce and bits of oyster. One of our favourite courses were the cod with razor clams and crab. The sauce was unbelievably good. We also enjoyed the main of duck breast with the cabbage, heart and confit chicken. It was extremely rich in flavour and very generous in portion size. The dessert of apricot soufflé was absolutely spot on too. Never have we had a soufflé so well cooked and the yuzu patisserie pre-dessert was arguably the highlight of the night. The wine pairings here were brilliant too. Everything tasted great and we were pleased to learn one was made just over in York! All in all, we had a fantastic time. It's expensive, yes, but you get a brilliant menu with unbelievably high quality food. The staff are great and the venue is cosy. We'd not hesitate to go back a second time. Outstanding and probably the best place we have eaten at.More
I have already do a writen review but tp reemphasise it was expensive but great. If i't special and you can afford it go here.
Superb meal with amazing staff Can’t fault anything It was an absolutely fantastic experience 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 All courses were delicious Great wines and attentive staff but still had a lovely relaxed atmosphere We went for my friends birthday and they thoroughly spoiled us
This was a blated 70th birthday present from my partner as I had said I had always wanted to go. I thought for a lunch for two at £110 it should be alright but this well exceeded expectations, after a while one stops caring about...the price and just sit there and take in the experience. I have never had such good services, such good food and such good ambience. If it is a special occasion this is the place to go, if you have more brass than secerns this is the place to go (others will be happy to take it off you but not give as much back). A great place for a one off mean, I will go again.More
Friday night treat. Lovely welcome, service and ambience. Tasting menu only on an evening at the moment, a la carte at lunch. Food was superb, wine flight very well matched. Excellent evening out.
