Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited as a surprise dinner for my Dad's birthday. Food, drinks, service etc all good as it has been on my previous two visits. I'm (very) late in writing this review but wanted to share how staff went above and beyond; they heard my...partner and I talking at the bar about how Dad would react as dinner was a birthday surprise. They picked up on this and brought out a dessert with a candle and happy birthday on the plate. Mum thought I'd arranged it and I thought Mum arranged it as part of the booking but no - some staff going above and beyond! We didn't say thank you at the time as we didn't realise the pub had arranged, but a lovely touch which was much appreciated.More

Very welcoming pub. We hadn’t booked a table on a busy bank holiday but were warmly welcomed and food was excellent for all the family.

We had booked a table for four at 3.00 pm on the first Sunday of March. I tend to find by that time most places that do Sunday lunch don't do it as good as when they open at midday or run out of items...on the menu , not here . Everything was still available, and we all chose different starters , the scotch egg with black pudding was amazing , everything else was great. My wife and I prefer the roasts to be well cooked , when ordering the roast beef lunch we were informed that it came rare and was that a problem , we asked if it could be well done and was told that was fine. When they arrived it was well done and tasted lovely , with gorgeous sides of vegetables especially the cauliflower cheese .The other two in the party had rare roast beef , again it was excellent. Portions were of a good size. We finished off by sharing a few desserts , the sticky toffee pudding was excellent. There was a good range of beers and wines and service was friendly and excellent. Prices were also very reasonable for such good food. I will definitely return again.More

We had such a lovely evening here. We dined with friends on a Friday night after a long drive. The food and wine were really very good and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Just what I we needed, a great night indeed!

My husband and I visited this wonderful pub on Wednesday 28th February 2024. The food was amazing both the main course and the dessert. We were served by Sophie who is a very attentive young lady. She was extremely pleasant and added to our great...meal. The experience was so good we booked to go again tonight. We had different meals and they too were delicious. We were lucky enough to be served by Sophie again. A big thank you to Sophie and the team for 2 lovely evenings.More

It must be at least 10 years since we ate here. It's about 20 miles from where we live so we decided to try it again. Very glad we did. We were shown straight to our table. The ambience was very rustic and pleasant. I...ordered the Ribeye steak, my wife ordered the trout. Have to say we have NEVER been served so fast. We're used to waiting at least 30 mins sometimes longer. The food was brought to our table within 10 mins!! - On a busy Saturday night as well!.. how do they do it? Excellent food, just as it was years ago. It was a bit noisy in the pub section next door but that's no problem.. after all it's a pub! Thanks to Finn.. who we understand has just started work there.. polite and pleasant service.. thanks to the speedy chefs, and thanks to the staff. We'll certainly be back!More

Excellent meal in the evening. We were staying locally and wanted to have a relaxed dinner in a good old country side pub. The place is cosy and beautiful and had a lovely atmosphere. Much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. The food...was delicious and plenty of choice. Was a real gem of a place to come across on our travels! Thanks guys.More

Our second visit to this lovely pub where we met as two families for a midweek pre Christmas lunch. From the imaginative on menu I chose a crispy black pudding Scotch egg (excellent) followed by beautifully cooked scallops with a delicious mixed salad and chilli...and garlic broccoli on the side. The waitress was brilliant, managing to be both friendly and unobtrusive as well as patient with our slightly unwieldy group.More

Busy, buzzy atmosphere. Accommodating, efficient and friendly staff. Staying nearby and came here both nights, once for drinks and once for food. Food a bit expensive, but good veggie options on menu - had an amazing soufflé and then slightly less amazing mac and cheese,...which was a bit oily. It was dog friendly but very crowded, so they let us use a quiet table round the corner so our dog could relax - much appreciated! A heated or covered outside area would have been brilliant. Definitely recommend and will come back xMore

I took my Wife for a 3 course lunch for her birthday and we had our 1 year old daughter with us. The venue was lovely with allot of character. We were surprised at how full it was for a Monday lunch time, obviously very...popular! The service from the waitresses was excellent, friendly, and unhurried, with the perfect length of time between courses. The food was delicious and they even brought an additional desert out with a candle for my wife’s birthday free of charge! We had our coffees in the bar area next to the log burner and they even made a ‘baby chino’ for our daughter! Our experienced was relaxing and such a treat with some nice touches. We particularly liked how friendly and fun the waitresses and bar staff were with our daughter so she enjoyed herself too which is a difficult task in itself! We would highly recommend and hope to return soon. We’ll done to the Potting Shed and their staff and thank you! 👏More
