Enjoyed an amazing curry last night. Haven't been for a few weeks, and it was as good as ever. Friendly staff and great service.
I'm a regular to the Raj and feel lucky to have such a good restaurant close to where I live. The food is always excellent good and the staff couldn't be better.
Totally excellent and delicious food. Great and attentive staff. Chicken Chattimut is exquisite! Very difficult to find curry of this quality anywhere in Southern England.
Enjoyed lunch here with my daughter today. This is a great restaurant with a delicious menu of Bangladeshi and Indian dishes. I moved to the town 12 years ago and we are regulars as always friendly staff and I’ve never had a disappointing meal -...either eating in or takeaway.More
This is a delightful review and we are pleased that you and your daughter had another great experience.
Our favourite Indian & Bangladesh cuisine, it is simply the best. My wife and I had a wonderful meal last night. The range of starters and the quality is top notch. The samosas full of flavour in a crispy pastry , the kebabs delicious and...seasoned mmm so tasty. We enjoyed our curries the chicken Madras was amazing. The Naans were fluffy, and huge and so fresh. The atmosphere is good and the service prompt and friendly. The food is really great here and we have never been anywhere as good in the area. The whole meal was excellent value for money. We enjoyed 2 starters, two curries, 1 side and 2 freshly baked naans and our drinks for less than £50.More
This is our go to venue every Sunday lunchtime for lunch in Malborough. 9 delicious dishes in an All You Can Eat Buffet for an amazing £11.95 per person. Last night we had Dinner and were really delighted with our curry choices and the Nan...bread. Service with a smile from a genial host. Nothing too much trouble and terrific value for money.More
Dined in august with my 83 year old mother ❤️ who had never been to a curry house before 😊 she loved it 👍 great service & lovely food & my fav bangla beer 🍺
We had supper here with a large group of 16. The service was second to none. They dealt with splitting the bill as we wanted with no problems. The food was lovely with lots of different choices as well as the tradional Indian dishes most...Indian restaurants offer . Both myself & husband had something we had not ever had before and both dishes were very tasty. The choice of beer is good with both bottled & draught. We are not local and the staff were happy to help us with our route back to where we were staying. We will go there again when in the area.More
Visited this restaurant many years ago, so thought we'd return whilst camping in Marlborough again – Raj seemed to have more customers than anyone else on this very quiet Sunday night! The menu has all the familiar 'traditional' items, but also a long list of...more unusual dishes including fish and vegetarian specials. We opted for a vegetable balti, a king prawn balti and tarka dhal. My balti was superb, with lots of fresh-tasting vegetables perfectly spiced, after vague request of 'fairly hottish' – the chef is obviously a mind-reader and got it spot-on. My husband was impressed by the number and size of prawns in his 'not quite as hot as fairly hot' dish, again spiced to perfection. The dhal was deliciously garlicky, and the accompanying nan and chapatis were light and fluffy and very more-ish, so nice we had to order two extra chapatis later. We finished up with a mango and a pistachio kulfi and drank a bottle of Prosecco. The restaurant is decorated very stylishly - the ladies' toilet is magnificent! The staff were lovely, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them – they've been going for 19 years so know what they're doing. All in all, a great meal, and good value for the high quality. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area. Thanks Raj!More
Asked for poppadums and was given eight-10 for two adults & two children charged 9.20. It appeared that unless specified quantity, all tables were given this amount of poppadums, even tables of two. There was no ice in any drinks. When received the bill there...was £1 extra and we questioned to be told it was card machine charge and ‘all other restaurants’ charge this. We queried to say examples which don’t do this, to be told only Indian. Again we gave examples that l don’t, to be told they haven’t added a service charge, which others do. We explained it was discretionary. We went around the circle again with examples of restaurants that don’t add the service charge and even if they do, it’s discretionary. The man was annoyed when we asked to use a chair from another table for a few minutes as a friend came in briefly. The food was ok but the customer service was atrocious. Never go there again!More
I’d describe us as pretty regular customers of the Raj, because the food and service are always very good. However, it’s our first time trying their new handmade samosas. Oh my goodness, they’re delicious….crispy and full of a wonderful delicately spiced filling. The perfect start...to what was a great meal. The only negative was that because I told my family how great they were, they had to try some of mine too!!More
We only had a takeaway but it was enough to make us come back. The food is amazing and the staff are warm and friendly. One day we will book to eat in! IMO it's the best Indian Restaurant in the area.
13 of us visited The Raj on Saturday 26th August for dinner. We booked in advance, but as we had attended the fabulous Giffords Circus first, we were perhaps 30 minutes late arriving. We have done this for many years and often go on to...The Raj and they remembered us when booking. They suggested a set meal this year, a starter and then a curry of our choice with rice, bread and dhal for £24 per person . When the first 2 of our group arrived they made it clear that they were annoyed with our lateness and had already called to see where we were and wanted to speak to the person who had made the booking. She had turned her mobile off during the show. Anyway as we arrived they took drink orders for the first few of us and then completely forgot everyone else until I pointed out that people were without drinks. When the manager or perhaps owner came to take our food order he asked only for those who wanted a mild curry to raise their hand, then who wanted a medium and then hot, then said that it would be chicken curry if that was ok! Although this was not what we had understood was on offer when we booked we accepted his suggestion meekly as we had obviously upset them by arriving late. Food arrived and was served begrudgingly. The table was too small for 13 and there was not enough room to put plates and dishes down. The starter was very nice, a small onion bhaji, a small piece of chicken tikka and a samosa. The curries served, which arrived very quickly, had in my opinion, been varied by just adding extra curry powder to adjust the heat. They were not the best and sadly the dhal was left uneaten as it had the consistency of a soup. When some people had finished eating the staff started to take dishes away. Not only is this particularly poor etiquette but to add insult to injury they were stacking dishes on the table in front of individuals. I complained that they were rushing us and that some of us had not finished our meal. Little notice was taken. Very soon after hot towels and complimentary chocolates arrived with the bill. No mention of dessert or even coffee! They wanted us to leave and just to prove it they started vacuuming the restaurant floor at what was now 11 o clock. I believe we were all there for no more than an hour and a quarter and our bill was £33 per head, in total £429. That means that we were charged an extra £9 per person for drinks, £117 in total which seemed excessive as I believe we had no more than 15 drinks which included both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks as many of us were driving. So many in the hospitality industry are complaining that currently trade is poor. I suggest that on this particular night The Raj performed very badly. As a group, we are admittedly, only yearly regulars, as we all live 50 minutes drive away. However after this experience, which consisted of particularly poor service and mediocre food, it is sad but unlikely that they will see this Circus visiting group, who are often larger, again.More
