We came for dinner as friends on a Wednesday - we love the steak night- delicious and such good value for money.
Our waitress Jo was amazing, so polite, friendly, a master at her craft, we felt
So at ease even in these steam times.

We’ve had some excellent evening meals at the Hop pole so thought we would try Sunday lunch. At £18 for two courses it’s not cheap so we were expecting something special. Service was great, very welcoming and attentive staff. For starters we had cauliflower fritters which were a bit bland and rubbery, but just about saved by some herby dip. I had lamb for main which was lovely and tender, but roast potatoes were hard in the centre and the gravy wasn’t as thick as I’d like. Those who had beef said it was tough. Puddings were a success, delicious brownies! It’s a lovely pub, but Sunday lunch didn’t quite hit the mark today.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. I am very pleased that the service you received was very positive, we take great pride in this. I’m sorry that the starter was not to your liking and have spoken to the chef regarding this. I appreciate constructive criticism as this enables us to improve and deliver quality.
I’m sorry to read about the roast potatoes and had we known would have replaced these immediately at the time. Likewise, we would have replaced the beef for you. I had some myself and it was lovely but appreciate not all joints are the same.
I’m pleased the desserts were all a success and will pass this on to the chef.
Overall, I’m glad we managed to get most things right but will speak to all concerned regarding this feedback. I do hope that you can give us another try so that we can deliver what is our usual fair.

We all enjoyed our lunch at the Hop Pole Inn and will be going back soon. My son and I had a smoked halibut starter which was delicious but I could have eaten more of it. He had salmon risotto and I had duo of sausages which were very tasty. My grandsons each had children meals and they finished their meals with ice creams.

We were having a family get together and really looking forward to eating here, we heard it had changed hands.
We found it to be quite cold on arrival, my parents kept their jackets on,
we were seated quickly to the right of the bar, but our table service was very slow,
Most of us had the beef which was tough, those that lamb said it was lovely, but Luke warm Veg’s
Hard hard roasties, very tiny portion of cauliflower cheese, horse radish arrived after we’d all eaten.
Had to ask to order drinks, long wait to order puddings which were very nice though portions were very small and we had the smallest amount of custard I’ve ever seen on the side of the pudding on the plate, we asked for more custard, 7 of us had puds with Custard, and a tiny jug came out for all of us, we ordered 4 cappuccino’s which were not good at all, two of our party left theirs, unfortunately we won’t rush back, neighbours of ours also were dining at the same time and they sadly said the same.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. I was very disappointed that you did not enjoy your experience with us.
I am sorry that the heating was not to your liking, it was on for a number of hours before we opened. I believe you were sat near to our gas fire but unfortunately I am awaiting for it to be replaced. This would have undoubtedly been a different outcome had it been working.
I was surprised and disappointed to read about our service, it’s something we take great pride in and evidently this failed to deliver this time. I will be taking it up with the staff to ensure we keep up our standards.
I am sorry to read about the quality of the beef you received and had we known I would have made sure this was replaced. I did try some myself and mine was lovely but appreciate not all joints of beef are the same. In regards to the roast potatoes, we would have rectified this had we known. I agree that it shouldn’t be necessary and should be right in the first place but never wish to see people leave disappointed. I will be speaking to the chefs regarding this and the portion sizes for the cauliflower and the custard as this is certainly not normally the case!
I’m sorry you did not like the cappuccino’s. I’ve just recently forked out for a new £3k machine and until now had not received any complaints but will take your comments on board.
Overall it seems this Sunday we did not deliver our usual high standards and quality which I sincerely apologise. I do hope we can rectify this if you are willing to give us another chance.

Visited at the start of the month.
I will say they have it set up well with the current covid crisis. And the staff were very friendly.
However the food was very very disappointing.
The two prawn cocktails were very poor with a watery sauce, almost as though they had been sat there for a while.
All three steaks were very over cooked (my rib eye was meant to be medium rare but was well done throughout so much so it was nearly dry)...the medium was also well done.
And considering we visited on their steak night you would have expected something close to what you ordered.
The chips however weren't cooked enough!
Great that they do the eat out to help out scheme but the prices aren't cheap anyway so its definitely not a bargain and unfortunately we won't be in a rush to come back for food. Drinks also seemed quite pricey, however its a decent atmosphere to sit and have a pint.
Yes I should have said something at the time, but that would have meant being the only person stood up (obviously all table service with the pandemic) having to talk through the screen, so would have been rather embarrassing.
Shame as used to really like this pub.

I am very sorry that you felt the experience and food wasn't up to standard. However, it is very hard to rectify the situation after the event. Particularly when table checked and everything is fine! We have been very busy with the Eat Out scheme on a Wednesday and everyone asked has said it has been a great meal and experience.
I take great exception in regards to pricing especially with the scheme. A rump steak for £4, a ribeye for £5.25, this is hardly expensive!!!
In regards to the drinks, I'm afraid nothing is over priced and highly competitive with the local establishments. In fact we actually undercut most in the area.
Thank you for writing a factually incorrect review and perhaps suggest we are not the venue for you.

Passive aggressive manager unprepared to acknowledge a poor meal, slamming a receipt on the table and arguing with the customer isn’t the way to go. Waitresses are excellent and happy to help but let down by the senior management’s ability to accept constructive criticism. In these times it’s sad to see as we will always support local, but unfortunately we won’t be back.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. However, I am very surprised by this review, and fear you may have got the wrong establishment. I agree my waiting staff are excellent. However, as I am the "senior management", have absolutely no recollection of such incident, have over 30 years of experience in hospitality, and would have never interacted with a customer as you describe, and happily accept customer feedback, can only assume it happened at a different place.
I do hope you manage to contact the correct venue and resolve your issues directly with them. TripAdvisor is not the means to resolve issues, direct contact with establishments is the way!

Before I go on please take time to read my review 26th August. Top marks it was and we'll deserved. So what went wrong on 22nd September for my birthday lunch with my wife? Ordered fish and chips which is usually top drawer but whatl arrived was shocking. Two small wedges of fish? Air filled batter for about 3 inches, black hard lumps of fish at the other end and what fish there was overcooked. Waiter was told and shown the food and he duly apologised and said he would inform the Chef. We said we did not want to stay having been put off our food. We paid for our drinks and left. Waiter and cashier again apologised. Chef/Management didn't have the courtesy to appear and explain despite plenty of opportunity. The restaurant was very quiet. So what went wrong we would like to know? Two people on an adjacent table had fish and chips. There fish was substantial and clearly very nice as it all went.

As you can see from all the positive reviews that we are lucky to receive this is far from the norm.

Was really looking forward to visiting here for Sunday Lunch as it was recommended by other family that had been, albeit a while ago. Unfortunately all four of our roast dinners were cold to the point where the lamb was actually fridge cold. They were sent back and more bought out. Unfortunately although not cold, they were slightly warm. Potatoes were luke warm. My family did not want to complain further as they were all hungry so my husband and daughter ate most of theirs. The veg was hot but once my two kids and husband had had only a small tablespoon of veg each, it was all gone and we had to ask for more. Looking at it, we assumed it would be one bowl between two, not between four! We know it wasn’t just us as the table next to us had to send their roasts back too and asked for more veg. However, the staff were apologetic and when asking for the bill, said that it was covered by our £40 deposit and we didn’t need to pay more. Such a shame as we were really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed, the issues in kitchen get sorted and we’d like to return to try again.

I'm sorry that you felt the food served was cold. However, I'm afraid I disagree. I actually tried the food and it was not cold on its return. However, as we did not wish to disappoint we gave you fresh meals. These meals that were in your words 'luke warm' were certainly not! The plates themselves had been in the oven to guarantee they were hot and the food served was likewise piping hot! The dish of vegetables was in any normal circumstances plentiful but we got you additional vegetables. The deposit covered it as a substantial discount was applied to appease you.
I can only surmise that unless the food is nuclear hot that it's not going to meet your expectations. As much as we don't wish to turn business away maybe we are not the venue for you. All the best for the future.

We visit the loverly Riverside Town if Bewdley regularly, we have eaten in most eatery’s in the town but today we booked Sunday Lunch at this Pub the Hop Pole, the staff were loverly friendly and very polite. We were shown to our table and provided with a Sunday Lunch Menu.. 2 or 3 course options.
The food was beautifully presented and tasted even better. I truly believe that you get what you pay for. Excellent.
Thank you to the Hop Pole team for an enjoyable Sunday Roast we will be back

Our first meal out as a family since easing of lockdown and it did not disappoint 😁
Not only delicious food- it was steak night and the meat was cooked brilliantly- also great attention to detail, everywhere spotless and set up for maximum safety. Really friendly staff with a very warm welcome. Would definitely recommend and such fantastic value for money

Did not book, turned up on a Thursday evening and although they were busy they found us a table within 20 minutes. Had the baked Camembert to start, sharing plate - comes with lovely pickle and freshly cooked crusty bread. I had the sea bass risotto - very nice and risotto very tasty. My partner has stuffed chicken, again lovely dish and very tasty. Overall a great experience - keep it up

Absolutely amazing. Visited on steak night and had ribeye. So good!
Our daughter chose Hop Pole prawn cocktail “ best she ever had”. We had bread with oils- this came with couscous, olives, warm bread- delicious 😋
The staff were very attentive and friendly.
Totally recommend her for romantic, family or special occasions.
Ps- social distancing the best we ever experienced, credit to all the staff @ The Hop Pole.

Went with friends for an evening meal and were quickly shown to a comfortable table and our drinks order taken. The service was friendly and attentive, the menu extensive enough for all tastes including a gluten free option. The portions were generous and the food tasty and well cooked. We enjoyed a pleasant evening and would return.

We visited The Hop Pole for the first time last night and we couldn't believe the quality of the food . The staff were very friendly and always on hand . It's said you get what you pay for and even though the prices are on the high end of average , it really is value for money . If , when you visit, the blade of beef is on the menu , you really have to try it . You won't be disappointed. On a sidenote , albeit an important one, the beers good too . Highly recommend.

Visited here on Wednesday 7th aimed for 3 courses as the norm. The menu was shocking, whoever has created it hasn’t been very creative. Chips with absolutely everything, boring! Yawn. We had a starter so we didn’t come across as rude, which consisted of soggy salad; tasteless prawn cocktail and soggy nachos. Unfortunately won’t be returning anytime soon. We popped down to the golden country takeaway, afterwards, half the price and much better quality. On the upside, the 2 waitresses were very welcoming and made an effort. Shame about the chefs.

There are plenty of dishes on this very popular menu that do not come with chips. Furthermore, as we prepare all dishes to order we are quite happy to replace chips with alternatives if requested. I'm sorry if the two starters were not up to your standard but have proved very popular over recent months.
I'm pleased that the staff were welcoming and friendly. Please take another look at our menu and come again.
