Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The recently refurbished put has made the cardinal sin of ripping out it's character, instead they've tried to modernise it. In my opinion all this has done is lose the atmosphere. I was intending to organise meets because of it's uniqueness. I've now called them...off. A good part of the attraction of the pub was it's innate charm. It's like ripping the heart and soul out of someone. Half the photographs you see on reviews that gave it it's charm and uniqueness are no longer relevant since they have refurbished it.More

Always been a favourite of the family to go to. Usual warm welcome and high standard pub food. Refurb looked good, opened the whole place out and made open plan but felt cosier.

We didnt set out to eat here today. Originally we were going to The Baum in Rochdale but their chef hadn't turned up. On way home called at Bird at Birtle but there was no one in and didnt fancy eating in an empty restaurant...so we landed at The Pack Horse. We haven't visited for many years but this was a really nice surprise. A lovely warm welcoming pub with a range coal fire, great service and good food. I could not fault our visit and we will definitely returnMore

What a lovely, friendly place The Pack Horse is. It’s had a makeover and it’s beautifully done. From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. The service was top class and our waitress really looked after us. The menu is very impressive and...caters for all tastes and they also accept Blue Light Cards We will definitely be back.More

We went to the pack horse on Sunday after the recent Refurbishment by JW Lees. The pub has kept its traditional feel with those original fireplaces giving it a warm cozy atmosphere. We were a group of 6 and had 3 courses. The food im...happy to say was excellent everyone really enjoyed it and we all had a sunday dinner. The roast beef was cooked perfectly and our waitress did a really good job of ensuring all our requirements were met. Will definitely be back and if you have a horse you can tie it up outsideMore

The best pub in Britain. After a major refurb this place is impossible to beat. The staff are all fantastic and the venue has gone from brilliant to outstanding. It's a really amazing pub to visit (regularly)

I have been visiting the area for work and while I was here decided to catch up with some friends I haven't seen for a while. We decided to try this place and it didn't disappoint! Among us there was a vegan, a vegetarian and...an avid meateater and the menu was able to cater for all of us! Personally I decided on the "legendary three cheese and onion pie". The description didn't disappoint! It was served with thick cut chips, peas and a cheese sauce. The pie itself was a decent sized portion, not too hot that you couldn't eat it and the cheese sauce was very good. If I could have taken another slice home I really would have! The service was good and if I am back in the area, I will return to this place. Great atmosphere, other patrons were friendly and the views from the beer garden were just right. Lovely place to catch up with some good friends.More

We popped in last Wednesday as haven’t been for a while and we both thought the food was amazing !!! We actually met Tina the Landlady who was so attentive and couldn’t do enough to make our visit just perfect. So we decided to go...back tonight and found the food and service to be absolutely exceptional which was rounded off with a brilliant folk/session music night in the lounge area which was just brilliant. Needless to say, we’ll be back soon, probably next Wednesday. Highly recommended venue for both food and the live entertainmentMore

Lovely pub in a rural setting with a warm welcome from staff.Food also great but charging £8 for a tiny bottle of Prosecco is ridiculous. No wonder the breweries are putting pubs like this out of business.Very sad really .

We were taken to this hidden gem by our friends from Bury whilst visiting them from down South. The staff are very attentive and the food was very tasty with reasonable prices. If we are ever in the area again we wouldn’t hesitate to stop...by.More
