Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the Roebuck Yesterday evening after they reopened at weekend following more than three months in lockdown.
Whilst all measures are in place to ensure that the premises adhere to Covid Safety Guidance, they have been implemented discreetly and in such a way that it does not detract from the experience of dining out.
We arrived early in the evening having booked ahead, and it was good to see that there were a steady number of customers already dining. We were shown to our table in the dining room, and advised that all drinks could be ordered at the table (and not at the bar). There is also provision in place to order both food and drinks via your tablet or mobile phone. The tables are placed at appropriate distances, and paper menus are provided. The Daily Specials Menu Board is still displayed in the bar area. Condiments are provided in packaged form, and cutlery and napkins were brought to the table for us to put out rather than being in situ on arrival.
We shared starters of Garlic bread with cheese on a pizza base which was piping hot and fresh. For the mains, we all chose differently (Braised steak with a Yorkshire pudding, Chicken breast with cheese and barbecue sauce, Scampi, and a Prawn salad.) All meals were tasty and filling, and left us with no room for dessert. The waiting staff were all polite and attentive, without being obtrusive. With a couple of drinks each, the bill came to just over £70.00 for four.
Whilst I was somewhat apprehensive about going out for a family meal so soon after the lifting of restrictions, it was a pleasurable experience, and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening thanks to the efforts of the Management and Staff at the Roebuck.

Went for lunch with family. Food outstanding for all 7 of us. Two had meat pies that were huge, looked amazing and both said they tasted great (though had been ordered in advance, otherwise it takes min 30 minutes when ordered from menu). I had scallops to start and large fish and chip - the fish was huge and cooked in their own batter which was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Can be difficult to get into the restaurant as it is popular, but well worth going....

We made a late decision to go out on Saturday and finding availability was hard. However when we rang the Roebuck they did their best to accommodate us and did
The staff were friendly and courteous, the choice of menu was varied and the inn has an olde worlde feel to it.
The food we chose was delicious: the fish platter was varied and of a generous proportion. The beef dish was tasty and comforting on a windy rainy night in Winter
Highly recommend

We treated ourselves to a mid week meal taking advantage of the eat out to help out scheme,
We have been going to the roebuck inn for many years and have always enjoyed the food and service that they offer.
The food is always very good and staff are all very pleasant and keen to make your experience enjoyable.
The owners work hard to make sure everyone is happy and the staff all seem to enjoy their work which is nice to see,
This is one of our favourite places to eat out and we look forward to returning in the near future.

I ordered cheese and onion pie with mash and peas ( mushy) and a graveyard boat. Well the pie was a good 3 inch thick with the most delicious cheese and onion filling you could wish for, accompanied by creamy mash and I have to say d as lightly under cooked mushy peas along with a great tasting gravy boat. I was in pure heaven it was plentiful and at £10.99 well worth it. Can’t eat to take my friends and family along so they to can enjoy the delight of tasting the best cheese and onion pie I have ever had. ( and I’ve had a few)

Called in for lunch as it had been recommended by friends. They were not wrong. Very rarely these days do you get good, delicious home cooked wholesale food but you do here. Nothing frozen or microwaved. The menu caters for most tastes and the service is spot on. The prices are reasonable too.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this venue to anyone and I can’t wait to sample more from their menu.

I and 14 friends frommy churchhad a great time in the private room. The food was really good and the service was first class, polite and attentive without being intrusive. There was a very happy atmosphere and everyone thought that it was really good value for money. We also appreciated the fact that you were able to cater for our friend, who can,t eat large meals, at a special rate

Had a lovely birthday family meal here on Saturday. All of our meals were very tasty, fresh and hot. One of our party needed GF and Lactose free options and the staff made a huge effort to explain the menu and also offered to make nearly all of the menu GF as it was all home made and cooked to order. What super friendly staff and fabulous food Thank you 😊

We had book a table for 7pm and the waitress brought over the menu. And we didn’t get ask what we wanted, and sat waiting. Till we ask the waitress if we could order food she put something in the computer and sat and waited till 7:22 pm. We saw a different waitress, and she said she would go and get the manager she came out and we asked where are meals were coming the 3 soup came out . We said we would have the soup and pay for drinks. There was no apology from the manager. So sorry for the wait. just took the money. terrible attitude booking to many table can’t cope with not go to the Roebuck inn ever again

I've been about half a dozen times over last 5 years and my wife's family more so, possibly 20 times. I don't know whether we have got used to the Roebuck, or their standards have slipped or a bit of both, but we all complained to each other on the way home how disappointed we were with the whole experience. I've just looked at the photographs on this website and they remind me of what it use to be like, but it definitely isn't like that anymore.
The size of the portions are so much smaller. They taste nice (but not great), but leave you needing more to get a proper taste.
The presentation was some of the worst I've had, especially the desserts. Check out the sundae, it's a bit of banana thrown in a dish with a bit of ice cream. The more I think about it and the more I think of the pictures on this site, the more I realise this place really has gone down hill.
I've gone from telling everyone they have to go, it's the best in the area to now telling them about the small portions and poor presentation and not recommending it. We'll probably still go until we find something better. Might seen harsh, but if I do something wrong and don't know, I like people to tell me. This isn't a one off, we've thought the same thing on the last couple of visits, but thought the other times were one off poor shows.

Visited with family for Dad’s birthday and left very underwhelmed. The man who originally served us looked fed up and like he didn’t want to be there although the rest of the wait staff were very pleasant. I ordered cheese & onion pie and was disappointed by salty tasting pie that was dried up due to reheating, dry mushy peas and soft chips, not at all crispy. Mum’s chicken was dry and nephew’s seafood platter was also disappointing. I ordered a sticky toffee pudding for desert which came with warm custard but the pudding itself was cold, it was actually chilled in the middle as if it had come out of the fridge. Some of the other meals were okay such as braised beef and chicken fajitas but I don’t think we’ll be going back for food again. Outside area looks great so maybe a destination just for drinks in nice weather.

We had a lovely meal with family 6 adults 4 children ranging from 10 months to six years. The staff could not have done more to accommodate us ensuring we had everything required, for all our needs
The food was lovely some had the roast dinner which gave alternative choices in the range too, others had meals from a different menu, I had the chilli chicken burger which was excellent definitely go for that choice again and of course it was a great variation on the children’s menu. We also had a meal that needed to be Gluten free, staff again were most informative and helpful.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the children also enjoyed the playground outside
Great day out enjoyed by all
It was lovely to see how smart all the staff were dressed giving such a fabulous overall experience for our Australian family visiting

We typically refrain from lodging complaints about our dining experiences; however, our recent visit to The Roebuck Inn on January 10th for a 50th birthday party warrants a response.
Upon arrival, we informed the staff that we had brought a cake, but no offer was made to store it in the kitchen or serve it after our meal. While we accepted this oversight, the issues compounded as the evening progressed. The food quality was disappointing—steaks were overcooked despite specific requests, and the vegetables were overboiled and lacked flavor.
Additionally, there was no table service for drinks, requiring us to go to the bar and pay each time, which was particularly inconvenient given our location on the top floor. The cleanliness of the room was also subpar, with remnants of the previous party’s food still on the floor.
When the bill arrived, we noticed that the prices had increased by £3 per head compared to what we were initially quoted. The staff appeared disengaged and unprofessional, contributing to a generally unpleasant atmosphere.
To make matters worse, the night was cut short due to a foul odor emanating from blocked toilets, which caused several diners, including us, to leave early. Despite these significant issues, no refund or discount was offered.
Given the absence of the owners, it appeared that the staff might have been overcharging customers. Unfortunately, this experience was a complete waste of over £400, and we will not be returning.

Had been before but not for a while. Offering 25% off food bill. Excellent value.
The meals 4 of had were great. All four starters and mains could not be faulted.
Staff were very polite and distance between tables was as prescribed by government advice.
Wine prices were not exorbitant nor were the meals.

Family occasion for my grandma so the whole family were invited, they sat us in a separate room all together which we thought was good, to then realise there was no music and got told we had to go back and forth to the bar to get our own drinks. We got given a Sunday menu which most of us agreed there was not much choice, we asked about a normal menu and they gave us a selection of burgers and sandwiches, we were disappointed with this as we did check the website/social media pages for menu before hand and no mention there only being a Sunday menu. Although there is an outside area for kids which is fab but overall that’s all that was great about our lunch
