Fresh, tasty and consistently excellent

We have previously eaten in the Royal Spice restaurant numerous times and have always enjoyed outstanding service and food. Last weekend, we ordered a takeaway as part of my birthday celebrations and were delighted to find that the delivery service was prompt and efficient. The food was of the same, excellent, restaurant standard and was piping hot and fresh tasting. Nothing can quite match the wonderful atmosphere of dining in at the Royal Spice but during times when this is impossible, their takeaway option is a very close second.

We visit the Royal Spice Regularly, we visited on Friday night and it was amazing. We started with a Mixed Starter, Onion Bhaji and Chicken Chaat and it was amazing. We then went on to the mains and again no problems, we were undecided between and cheese and onion Naan Bread and Garlic Naan. So our waiter kindly asked the chef to make us a garlic and cheese naan bread which was amazing. We always go to the Royal Spice for an treat-night or takeaway. 1000% recommend to anyone.

Curry lovers must try !!!

Booked a table last minute and on arrival the staff were friendly & polite showing us to the table. The waitress recommended trying the Gin bar with around 8 different gins to try, the raspberry Gins to die for Highly recommend trying the sizzling platter for 4 as a starter and for main I really enjoyed the chicken tikka jalfrazi. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff & always on hand for drinks etc. Excellent customer service Cant wait to visit again

The worst dining experience I’ve ever had!!!

First of all they sat us at a dirty table with food all over the floor, under the table, the table was thirty and not cleaned Dispite having them “cleaned it”. The plates and cutlery were dirty also. I ordered a glass of wine that came with two different shades of lipstick on it! Neither was mine! We couldn’t hear ourselves think or even have a conversation with each other however everything that we could hear was the parties shouting and swearing! I ordered a fish curry they had lamb and chicken in it?? And no apology or discounted off of my bill when queried it! As it was my fault?? My partner ordered lamb on the bone and all it was was over cooked lamb chops!

Takeaway

Had a takeaway from royal spice and i must say my wife and i were very disappointed. We ordered the pickle tray which were 3 very small half filled plastic pots of pickle, one spoonful in each. Then one of the main courses was wrong and what we got was half filled small plastic cartons. The cost of this meal was nearly £23, could have got a better meal deal from asda for £7, not be going back

Raw chicken at the buffet

Been here for the buffet tonight and it’s safe to say I’m less than impressed. We where seated at a table that clearly hadn’t been cleaned down in between customers. It was dirty and sticky. We asked the waiter if we could order drinks but the drinks didn’t come until well into our meal. When getting our food everyone who was having the buffet had to use the same serving spoon which isn’t very hygienic especially with Covid. Not only this the food was greasy and the buffet table wasn’t kept clean. Sauce and other bits of food where plastered all over. When we sat down at the table to eat my partner bit into a raw chicken wing, the inside of the meat was pink and bloody. The whole family had these chicken wings on their plate so we opened up the others to find that they where raw too. These chicken wings where available to everyone eating the buffet and could cause serious illness. As well as this There was very little if at all any vegetarian options and at times the staff where very slow to top up the buffet with food. People where just standing about most of the time waiting for the food to be stocked up. Definitely won’t be visiting again.

Fantastic Food - Friendly Staff

The Royal Spice, Darton, Barnsley is just an excellent restaurant. We visited recently with friends and enjoyed lamb chops and mixed kebab starters, various main courses along with garlic, cheese nan breads and roti bread. The food is always exceptional, well presented and really well cooked with staff who are very knowledgeable and always friendly. The service is impeccable and this is one of my very favourite eating places.

Great value, tasty Sunday buffet

We’ve visited many times over the years for the Sunday night buffet, and have never been disappointed. It’s a really friendly community restaurant and takeaway, and the staff are always very welcoming and offer good service. There is always plenty of really good, tasty, quality curries to choice from, and at least 2x vegetarian options. They have recently put their prices up, but we still think £29 for 2 buffets, a pint of Cobra and a coke is really good value!

No.1 Curry in Barnsley

I have been to Royal Spice, Darton around 6/7 times now and I have only known about it for around a year! I thought it finally deserved a fantastic review. I have tried just about every Indian/Curry House in Wakefield and some of the top ones in Leeds and Manchester.........this is the best! The manager is very attentive and friendly, having a joke with you without being too much and the staff are really hard working and friendly. The food is always piping hot and served within a great time frame. I normally go with Chicken Pakora or Tikka starters both which are amazing, especially the Pakora. I then normally have a Chicken Madras, I do like hot curries and this isn't as hot as other places but the flavour is top notch and makes up for the little under spiced. Serve this with chips, rice and elephants ear of a garlic naan you're in heaven. Awesome food and it's not too expensive either, often find it's a good 25% cheaper than some of the big name places. Can't wait to come again! Well done.

Brilliant curry

We tried Royal Spice on the off chance while on holiday. It was our son's 15th birthday and this was his meal choice. The outside of the building is not your conventional looking restaurant but the decor inside is pleasant and relaxing. All the staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered a mixture of starters to share, a variety of curries and a family sharing garlic nan bread. All the starters were excellent but we particularly liked the liver. Our mains were vindaloo, handi, balti, and tikka masala. All were delicious. The garlic nan was the best we've ever had. Everything was great and we've kept the menu for the next time we are on holiday up here!!

Bad Really Bad

We just ordered takeaway OMG seriously whoever gave them 5stars you never ever had good Indian that's given! I ordered butter chicken which should be bright orange however looked more like 💩 brown as well I think I must of been two pieces of chicken chopped to level that resembles toddler food! Mushroom rice again brown and sad looking like months old not even a drop of curcumin! My partner order tandoori chicken I swear God never ever I saw such a lifeless again brown looking (color they going for I guess) pice of sad meat! Tandoori as in the name is bright orange marinate this was bbq grilled chicken 😂 Absolutely horrible taste (not flavor!) And really really bad looking! Never again!

It's been a while but we'll worth the wait !!!

First time back in a few months and once again nothing to complain about !! Greeted with a smile from Ali, Lisa, Tiki & the team, shown to our table & recieved the free poppadoms & yoghurt sauce that's always been a hit. Always on hand to refill drinks & between courses asked if everything is OK. Starters of mushroom pakora & lamb chops arrived on a hot sizzler with fried onions just the perfect way to present our meal. Totally recommend the chicken pardesi which is a new dish on the menu and its made to your own taste mild, medium or spicy if you ask. The restaurant was extremely bust whilst we were there however nothing is too much trouble for the staff & always on hand to help. Honestly I wouldn't dine any where else ... if you love a great Curry this is the place to be !!!! See ya next time royal spice

Cheap and good value food

Overall I would recommend going here, the food is delicious and very good value for money. Drinks where rather expensive as they cost more than the food. Parking was some what an issue. Very friendly staff. I particularly liked the family naan which came hung up as a tare and share.

We have tried curry’s all over , however they don’t match up to Royal Spice in Darton .. we have been going now since they first opened their doors, Zaff as always got an handshake and a good welcome when you arrive and as a really friendly team behind him. Always willing to chat with you whether you wait for a takeaway or sitting in ..the food is exceptional and portions a large ... Simply the best .. !!

Late Cold and Bland

Ordered twice from here, the first time it took an hour and a half for delivery, apparently they couldn't find the house. We live on a main road, high street with a big number on the door and I supplied a post code and number. The Food was cold, unappetising and we had to microwave it. The 2nd time we were persuaded to try again as we were told the food is usually very nice and we accepted the late excuse as a one off. This time still no food had turned up after an hour and a half, despite estimated delivery time of one hour. I rang up and was told it was just about to leave the building on its way. As we were hungry and tired, we waited, 40 mins later (now over 2 hrs since ordering) it arrived, apparently this time the driver had been given the wrong house number by the restaurant and had been sat outside someone else's house. I think this is probably their general late excuse. The food was cold, the chips were luke warm and waxy, the naan breads were cold, wet through, slimy and sour, so £8 worth of naans went straight in the bin. We had to microwave the chips and main meals, as they were far too cold to eat. Everybody left at least half of what was on the plate. Almost £40 spent and the majority was of food inedible . We won't be going back.
