Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On our way back from North Yorkshire we called in as friends have previously been in and recommended it. It was quiet as early lunch time but greeted by a friendly member of staff. I had the chicken gyros at £10.95 and my partner had...the light bite fish and chips at £12. Food was lovely and a decent portion size too.More

Obviously the pub and the location are lovely but the drinks are ridiculously overpriced.. it's a pub.. not the ritz... think I ordered a cider & a lager and it came to 13 pounds lol.. a lovely place to sit and have a drink and...I suppose you get what you pay for but the only reason I'm not giving it less than three stars is because of the location.. oh ye, & when I ordered the lager there was something even wrong with the pump and it wasn't working properly so he took about 5 minutes to pour a pint of lagerMore

This is more about the experience of the Strafford Arms rather than one particular visit. We have been coming here weekly for a number of years but most recently have seen the decline of the pub itself, The 4 increases on the Drinks in the...last 12 months, for example Guinness £4.95 to £5.90, John smiths from £3.95 to £5.20 ?? No warnings just find out when you pay your bill. Is this why they put everything on a tab ? No drinking at the bar. Weeks without certain drinks as no sprinklers? Empty hours before closing time and because we’re not eating being pressurised to leave early. Meals prices, Beef stew (pie) changes to meat & potato but goes up in price by 30% ?? This used to be the best pub for miles, couldn’t get in Saturday afternoon, tea time, was so vibrant on a Friday night was still full at 11pm it’s so sad to see what’s happened but please look at some of the reviews as the majority of the people are saying the same thing.More

The building and settings are gorgeous.. But that’s where the positives end . Food is bang average , what you would get at greene king etc and if it was priced accordingly there would be no grumbles , however £3 or £4 dearer.. Drinks are...Ritz prices .. Malbec £11 a glass !!! About 20+ family members in restaurant for a birthday and must have took £2000 + off us .. Was pre booked months ago then tried to charge us new prices 😀 Someone’s bill had gone from £69 to £83!!! Won’t be visiting again Do yourself a favour try elsewhereMore

My wife and I have eaten at The Stafford Arms several times over the past few years and have always enjoyed our visits. Unfortunately our latest visit was a world away from what we have become accustomed to. When we arrived, the pub was quiet...with only a couple of tables of diners, and a few drinkers. We were shown to our table and given menus. A few minutes later an order was taken. When the food arrived, it looked "ok" but seemed to be lacking any form of presentation (as we have always had on previous visits) and the portion size was a little small. Considering The Strafford Arms has a "famous" Josper charcoal grill, my steak looked and tasted like it had been boiled..... With little or no colour or charring (as expected from a charcoal grill) to the outside and zero charcoal flavour....I have had much better (and cheaper) steak from lesser chain pubs! When we had finished our meals, we were asked if we would like to see the dessert menu, we did, and these were given to us.......then nothing....the server just disappeared....we waited 20 mins or so and decided to cut our losses and pay our bill at the bar. We left really quite disappointed by both the food and the service.... This may be why the place is now so quiet? It's a far cry from the Strafford Arms we knew and loved.More

Visited the Strafford arms on Friday dinner for an afternoon This was a poor afternoon tea with numerous things wrong. 1. The fish in the mini fish and chips had no fish in it it was just a deep fried potato wedge, I complained to...the server which she took away and brought back 2 replacements which was fish so wasn’t happy about that. 2. The mini sausage role just looked like a Greggs sausage roll and had no taste at all. 3. The cream scone, the bottom half was soggy as if it had been defrosted, and had a lump of something which I didn’t know was clotted cream or butter. I would expect fresh cream. 4. The red velvet cake was dry and crusty on top as if it had been under a heat lamp. Overall it was of very poor quality and just didn’t seem to go together why you would have a bubble gum milkshake in there I do not know. I was very disappointed with the whole experience and would definitely not return until it has been changed and improved. We have been to many afternoon teas and have loved them all wherever we have been but this was very poor for the money charged. My daughter also told me when she went it was no better and they had dropped theirs and tried to serve it anyway. They offered them another afternoon tea as an apology so that shows you, you need to up your game.More

Food is definitely pre cooked and reheated plating was sloppy, could do a better job at home with a microwave & airfryer.

Came here for afternoon tea for a special occasion. I wrote to them prior my booking and asked if they could cater for one vegetarian for a afternoon tea to which they replied "yes of course, just write your request in the notes when booking"....So that is exactly what I did, we turned up on the day to be served meat (well a flat cold sausage roll and some duck paste on some bread I think) . I asked which side was the vegetarian and they told me that they had no idea of my request, they said that the kitchen staff doesn't read the notes ! Really great thanks! 25 quid each for a piece of cold sausage roll, a thimble of soup a small portion of fish and chips and what tasted like yesterday's stale cakes! Plus 8 pounds for 2 soft drinks! I would rather stay in and save money personally! Thanks anyway!More

Lamb cannon was to die for, the spinach Gruyère & butternut squash and rum glaze; just elevated the dish! Friendly greeting. No booking but found a table. Had a choice of the normal dining menu or the lunch option. Service was good... no undue time lag between ordering and receiving our meals. I had the chicken supreme which was tasty but could have been...hotter. Other meals were chosen from the lunch menu. The gyros was tasty, the light fish and chips also good as was the steak frites. However I would say the steak frites portion was on the small size for a dish costing close to £15. Overall all though all food was very good and we would come back. The afternoon tea looked very interesting.More

To be honest I don’t recall but I think there is a step up from the lounge to the corridor where the toilets are sighted. There are steps to enter the main door but there could have been another access point
