This place is excellent value for money. Friendly attentive staff, really good pub food, served hot and large portions at a good price. We were struggling to find a pub serving food on a Monday evening close to the Caravan Club site and found this almost next door, so pleased we did. Well done Martonian, we will be back.

We are staying nearby and after a long dog walk on the coast, fancied a well earned pint. We hadn't booked and just hoped there'd be a table as it seemed busy.
Firstly, the Covid procedures in place were as good as anywhere we've been since March; we registered for an outside table (classed as the 'dog garden') which was actually in a very spacious marquee (one of two). Our drinks order was taken at the table by one of the very courteous young staff and, on the recommendation of another couple who were dining, we also ordered two roast dinners. Got to say they were up there with the best we've had; plenty of variety on the plate that looked and tasted like it was freshly cooked. At £9.95 for the large (£7.95 for small) we reckon it was good value too for a proper home-cooked roast.
Would definitely recommend eating here (and we will again if we can get booked in!)

We visited this pub on a very busy new years day. We found a table no problem and were greeted warmly at the bar by a very pleasant young man. When we sat down a young lady came and asked if we wanted food and that there was a wait of approx 45mins to 1 hour! This was fine for us and informed the girl we would shout her over when we were ready to order. There were lots of big tables in and we were in no hurry to order to so sat and had a drink! The staff coped amazingly with everything and obviously took inspiration from the owner/manager who was on hand to help out when needed and who was again very pleasant! We placed our order with Rachel who again told us there might be a wait but we reassured her we were in no rush! Our food came out much quicker than the 45mins predicted wait hubby had a chilli burger and I had a prawn salad! Both were freshly made and really delicious. Very good value for money too!! This pub is a big establishment with very strong management who lead from the front! A rare commodity these days but it very obviously works! Fabulous place!!

Had a lovely get together with the family and doggo. Had a lovely meal with a very friendly service. Very reasonably priced and you got a very big portion. Four of us had the special of bbq pulled pork burgers which was delicious and a roast pork and meat pie meal. Great that you could take the dog in with a large area which meant that you didn’t feel as if you was completely out the it. Would go again when in the area.

We ordered fish and chips, on the menu it said served with in their skins chips. We got frozen fat soaked chips, when queried we were told they didn't have them but the menus had already been printed. Not at all bothered. Won't be going back.

Well, it is a shame that I have to write this negative review. As a rule i am a big believer in if you can’t say anything nice... don’t say anything at all. Still, I am so disappointed with the Martonian Inn at Sewerby. We booked a table for two, We turned up at the allotted time to be shown to a shabby little table in the Foyer next to the booking in cubicle. Well I was not happy, and when my wife asked for another table because of the two big families with lots of kids on tables next to each other, who were being very very loud. They were obviously together. So much for the rule of six!! Anyway, the older waitress when asked about moving table stroped, “ you’re having a laugh, you’re joking right” yet we could see that there were a lot of empty tables elsewhere. Well we sat there on that shabby table and thought, were not going to be treated like this... so got up and walked out... We will never go back! We have had a lot of meals at the Martonian over the years, we take family, we take friends, but we will now take our custom elsewhere in future. Tonight alone as cost them around £50 with us walking out. But still if customer satisfaction isn’t a priority then they won’t care.

It is amazing how when people get sat in front of a computer to write crap they have complete mental block and forget the truth.
You were sat at a table for 2 which you moaned about straight away because it was next to a radiator and would be to hot the radiator was off though. You then moaned because there was children near you but then i guess you wouldn't of been happy anywhere as it was half term there was children everywhere in the pub.
The 2 parties you are talking about where 2 parties sat separate on 2 tables of six as per the rules.
We were fully booked that evening and maybe if you attitude had not been so rude in the first placebo may have been moved to another table some times what goes around comes around.
Thanks for the review and next time try to remember the truth and dont just make things up

I was extremely nervous about eating out after being shielded for the last four months. We booked a table for four people on Thursday evening. We were met at the door by a very friendly face (with mask obviously) and hand sanitizer ready, and shown to our very well spaced out table. The place has been renovated to cater for everyone safely, with a larger dog friendly area and plenty of space round tables. I even had room to take my mobility scooter right to the table. The very pleasant waitress brought us menus and served our drinks by putting the tray on the table allowing us to take our own drinks. Our food was served in the same way by very helpful staff who wore masks. We had a very pleasant evening and I couldn’t have felt safer. I will definitely go there again and would recommend it to anyone who is nervous of mixing with people again.

The Martonian was recommended to us by the place we were staying at. I was a little conscious as I has not yet been out for a meal since pubs and restaurants had reopened. It was amazing to see that the pub was very COVID-19 secure, with one way systems in place, everything handed over on trays, staff wearing masks and tables spread out. When I asked if there was a table available and stated we had a dog with is, this was no issue as they are dog friendly. The pub even has marquees outside for extra space, with a dog friendly area too. The pub and marquees had good access to them so people with buggies or in wheelchairs would have had no issues.
The service was second to none, our waiter Ryan who waited the outside tables was just simply amazing. He was friendly, helpful, polite and always there when we needed anything. There was a good selection of food on the menu with lots of options for meat eaters and vegetarians as well as healthy eaters and burger lovers! The food portions were very generous, never leaving you wanting more and with very good prices. Because of these combined points, we didn’t hesitate to book again for the Saturday evening. The Martonian is a MUST visit!!

This pub/restaurant has really got their act together re: COVID! Paper menus, and as you leave they ‘bin’ them, no salt or pepper pots, Sachets instead, staff wear gloves to pull your drinks. Waitresses wear gloves to bring your drink to the table and you have to take the drinks off yourself so they don’t touch the glass your drinking out of! Well marked walking areas. We felt so safe. Thank you Martonian.

Was staying in the area and this place was near and had some good reviews so booked a table for dinner.
Had the deep fried Halloumi to start which was really good. 4 big chunks of perfectly cooked deep fried Halloumi. The breading was thin and crispy and dipped in the sweet chilli sauce tasted really good.
I had the stuffed beef burger (with cheddar in) which was surprisingly good. It's rare to find stuffed burgers and when I've had them in the US before they've always been very overcooked to ensure that the cheese inside was melted.
Although the burger seemed a bit overcooked in the outside (in a nice crispy way!) The inside of the burger was actually still very soft and juicy. The meat had a really nice taste and the hot melted cheddar was also really good.
My wife had the cream cheese and mushroom lasagne which was on the 'lite bites' section of the menu. Cheaper options and we were surprised at the size as the lasagne was almost a standard sized portion (not a complaint but we just expected it to be much smaller). The lasagne itself was ok but nothing special and was very rich with the cream cheese sauce. The issue however was the mushrooms which had a texture like rubber and wasn't pleasant to eat. Luckily she wasn't too hungry so took out the mushrooms and ate most of the rest of it.
Both our meals came with a large amount of fries. They were nice but a bit strange as they were both the same, and according to the menu the burger comes with 'skin on fries' and the lasagne should have come with 'homemade fries' (They were definitely both skin on fries). Either way the fries were nice.
The staff were all very efficient, wearing masks and being careful of the other guests. There was hand sanitizer available, NHS check-in barcode, and a one way system in place.
They've removed some of the car parking spaces to make room for extra marquee seating outside so the car park was very full but some people were parked outside on the grass by the road.
Overall we had a very good meal and will happily come back next time we're in the area.

My husband and I visited on 6th Aug for a late lunch/early dinner at 4pm. Our order was taken promptly once we had decided what to have and freshly cooked delicious food arrived at our table 15-20 mins later. Everything was piping hot and faultless. Staff checked we were enjoying our meals and cleared our empty plates promptly when we had both finished.
All the staff were lovely and as I listened to the customers around us not one table’s orders were straight forward. Everyone asked for tweaks and amendments to the menu and the staff politely took their orders, complete with special requests, despite it being extremely busy.
The staff also rearranged the busy dining room to accommodate a wheelchair user and her family.
Despite being at full capacity we weren’t pressurised into placing our dessert order quickly and we were able to have a pause before deciding . (An added bonus were the gluten free puds!)
We discovered this gem on the last day of our holiday but we will certainly return on our next visit. The couple at the next table were on their fifth visit in a week as they too were staying nearby.

we visited this pub on a gloriously sunny day as we had our beloved dog with us. We wanted to sit outside and continue to enjoy the sun but were told food was not served outside even though its just a few feet away. We had to sit in the dog room which is a converted lean to with no opening windows. We had to order our food through a glass sliding window which reinforced the feeling of isolation. The seating consisted of fixed wooden benches and cheap patio furniture. The benches were obviously fitted by a man as, being a normal height woman, my feet didn't reach the floor! the chairs were so low it was like being a toddler again. The food was OK, normal pub grub, but the staff were unfriendly. Afterwards my husband commented on the sign that said "if you want to eat outside you must pay for your food at the bar". My husband pointed out that this contradicted the other sign. The staff member replied that this meant the dog room. When reminded that the dog room was fully enclosed and not outside he simply replied "It's outside to us". We left feeling more tolerated because we had a dog rather than welcomed.

Thanks for the feedback i will remove the sign in the door way as this must cause confusion as the outside lean too as you called it used to be a patio area pre pandemic but to try and remain open and follow all of the ever changing guidelines we put a roof on it sorry for the confusion.
We dont really have a outside area anymore and the few chairs we have on the carpark for people to sit on we decided as a business we were not serving food out there due to the shortages of staff.

We came here for a Sunday lunch and both decided to have the roast turkey dinner, which came in two portion options. Being greedy we went for the bigger of the two but really this was meant for Billy Bunter types.
We came back on the following Wednesday where the wife went for roast pork but picked the smaller meal, which was still generous.
I picked streak and ale pie which was cut from a larger pie. All in all 5 star meals at a great price.
The only disappointment was that my pint of Old Peculiar had gone through a chiller. I am of an age where only lager goes through a chiller.
Final point to note was that our second visit occurred after Covid masks became optional. This resulted in our meals and orders being taken and served by members of staff who did not want to project us, which was a little disappointing but then as we were at the table we were not wearing masks either.

We popped in when visiting Bridlington, the reserved dog area was perfect for us. All staff were so warm and welcoming, the menu was outstanding and we were served quickly given drinks before placing our food order was even better on a hot day. I had lamb kofta which was delicious and plentiful, my mam had the steak and ale pie which came with chips, vegetables and mushy peas and was enough to feed two!! We took a doggy bag of steak and veg for our dog who demolished it all 10/10 and would certainly recommend stopping by!

Absolutely brilliant to be able to be back at the Martonian again. Chris and Lisa have gone above and beyond to make their customers feel comfortable and welcome. What an amazing outside area they have created. The new menu is absolutely fantastic with something for everyone’s taste. I had the vegan buttermilk style chicken burger and my hubby had the mushroom and blue cheese burger which were both gorgeous and we would highly recommend. Service was brilliant as per usual. Can’t wait to go back tonight.
