I don't usually leave reviews but I felt like I should after my fantastic meal at A Cena. I booked a table for myself and some friends for dinner, and as soon as we entered we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. Before we even looked at menus we were given a complimentary plate of home made focaccia bread....incredible. I would have been happy to just have that all evening! With so many delightful options I chose to start with the fried cauliflower in parmesan butter which tasted just as amazing as it sounds- perfect combination. For my main I had the duck ragu and was blown away by the quality of the meat and amazing flavours. We all agreed that our food was cooked perfectly and presented beautifully (neither one of us wanted to share). To go with our meal we ordered a bottle of wine recommended by the manager, and finished off with a perfectly creamy tiramisu- definitely worth indulging. The service was attentive and professional, and the general atmosphere was low key and romantic. Honestly a fantastic experience. Hats off to the new owners!

We have frequented this restaurant since it was opened, something like twenty years ago. It has been handed down or adopted to members of its staff a couple of times but despite the changes of ownership the quality of the food and level of service has never diminished. It is the venue of choice for my extended Italian family catherings. The current team are as faultless as their predecessors. Even with all the rigamarole of 'covid 19' precautions did not tarnish our latest visit. I cannot recommend it more highly.

Came here after looking at reviews on trip advisor. I visited with my husband and son and it was fantastic. My son didn’t find anything he wanted on the menu so they went out of their way to make sure he had something he liked. My husband had the chicken and said the side salad was the best he had ever tried. So glad we came to visit and we will most definitely be back next time we are in London ☺️

When in London we generally visit A Cena, so as our wedding anniversary was a mid week it seemed a good destination. However it seems to have changed, whilst we cannot harp back to the two brothers it still has changed since they left. We were sat at the back near to the kitchen - we have sat here before. However the chef was very loud talking to his team. The first two courses were so quick it was almost a plate exchange from starter to main- we arrived at 6.50 and were on the second course by 7.10 - too fast. The breaded chicken as always spot in, the lamb was headlined as pink, it was not and no one asked why I didn't"t finish it. The chefs may be better looking at the food on the pass rather than talking so much. The Tiramisu was good though the meringue felt a bit more prefab. Still OK but get them to pace, sit away from the kitchen and pace it. Did give the feedback didn't seem bothered with wine came in around £200.

This used to be a top notch restaurant with high quality food. It has changed management. I had a poor quality dinner with awful Burrata, tough fish, bread with no olive oil offered; my wife had a pasta dish with about 7 strands of spaghetti. Main courses are c£25 which was very high for the poor quality & size of food. We all three agreed it was a very poor experience. One waitress was constantly adjusting the volume of music on an iPad, so the music would go up and down loudly during dinner. Service was good. It retains a lovely interior. Wine list is decent. But food wise, this restaurant has gone to the dogs.

My wife and I arrived at A Cena quite late on a busy Saturday night without a booking. The incredibly friendly staff wearing face masks managed to squeeze us in and even give us a desserts menu. We shared the budino and Tiramisu which I recommend highly. The drinks were lovely too. Even though they were not on the menu, the very confident and young barman knew what a good whiskey sour and cosmopolitan was. Overall great experience and would love to come back for a full dinner.

Me and my friend went last night and we left starving and disappointed. We do not eat carb or big meal in the evening but what it was presented it was absolutely ridiculous. The menu has very little choices, starter are very basic and not exiting so we decided to order the only vegetarian dish on the main course. What it was presented left has shocked, we were no sure if it was for us. It was probably not even an intere courgette, hardly cocked with few little spot of blue cheese and few pine nuts, it could be a starter but definitely not a main, for the price of for 22 pounds. We complain about the size and the substance and we decide to get some potatoes, the waiter brought us a very small bowl with few hardly cooked boiled potatoes. We left and went to another restaurant. Never again “ A Cena” li di sicuro.

Back in the day this used to be an excellent Italian restaurant. The lighting and ambiance made for a calming and romantic setting, it is now somewhat stark, brightly lit with little atmosphere (despite being full). Whilst the menu reads well enough (I like restaurants with few choices), the execution was just not good enough. Burrata starters were mediocre at best… Whilst my flank steak was a good size and broadly cooked well it was over, the fries were seemingly cooked in dirty oil and probably from frozen, the creamed cabbage was disgusting. My wife and daughters had pasta dishes, the Cacio & Pepe was a miserly portion and the seafood pasta tasteless. The wine list has evaporated and limited, the Soave just about adequate at £55, the Chianti Classico at £85 was shocking, thin and miserable despite the quality producer… a total rip off. I hired the whole restaurant for a birthday 10yrs ago because we loved it so much, it was genuinely excellent. This time around it is not good enough which is very sad to say. Every step was 2 stars at best, except the waitress who was polite, helpful and smiley. Am loathed to criticise, I just hope some. Price is taken to tweak it back to life! We need good restaurants in the area.

It's easy to miss A Cena from the street, but you shouldn't. It's a classy, classic Italian restaurant with an incredible menu focused on great ingredients. It's under new management and this has given it a new lease of life, which makes for a good excuse to give it a try. Also, have the chips.

Had dinner with an old friend last night & had a terrific time. The whole experience couldn't have been better. They managed the social distancing extremely well and didn't in any way interfere with our dining (& drinking) experience. Cocktails were crisp and excellent. The Valpolicella was exquisite and very reasonably priced. We had a selection of different plates - all of which were well presented, delicious and very much enjoyed. Cant recommend A Cena enough!!

We visited recently and food was okay but expected better. Seabass small didnt taste that fresh with very little to accompany it. Friends had the chicken which they said was nice but had too much Caesar salad filling the plate. Wine was good. Staff were not that welcoming whether it was the masks who knows. It was all amicable but nothing more than that. Panna cotta was good the Tiramisu was just cream and chocolate dusting nothing to it. Overpriced and I wouldn't return.

Perhaps it's because of COVID and the Eat Out special, but dinner midweek in mid-September was not nearly as good as what we have had over the years. The menu does not resemble the menu of a northern Italian restaurant (the original owners were from Milan). It is not a serious menu, but one more suited for a casual dinner aligned to British tastes. Fried cauliflower for a starter. The cooking was ok, although a bit heavy on oil. Most surprising was my order of a mixed salad as a side during the main course. A small bowl of some green salad came with a huge amount of shredded cheese on it. I have never seen this in Italy. Also, there was an error on the wine list. The white Pecorino was listed as a Tuscan wine. It's from Abruzzo. (The wine was fine and nicely complemented the fish.) Perhaps A Cena needs to compete with Zizzi just over the bridge, but I do wish for a place that can be truly authentic modern Italian.

We went for lunch as a last minute decision and were not disappointed. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Loved chatting to the owners about the history of the place and their journey to be there. Food was great.... parpadelle with slow cooked lamb (large portion but a taste sensation) and stone bass with cabbage and anchovy (delicious - maybe the look did not quite reflect how good the taste was). I’d also highly recommend the brocolli side dish which I could have eaten as a main. Deserts (Budino [chocolate pudding in photo] and tiramisu) were unnecessary but truly lovely. We had been previously and noticed how much brighter and elegant the place looked this time. Sad it has had to close with lock down but we will definitely be back.

We’d highly recommend trying this local Italian restaurant. A beautiful piece of halibut, with asparagus and capers (a generous portion), was cooked & seasoned to perfection. A warm welcome from the young and enthusiastic owners helped to create a great ambience. Fresh table linen and elegant wine glasses always add something to the enjoyment of a meal. Top marks We will be back.
