Having moved to St Agnes recently we have been looking for a local pub that serves good food, that is welcoming and not overpriced. We have tried several local pubs, closer to home, without success, so decided to try a little further afield. We visited The Red Lion,in Blackwater, for the first time last week. The home cooked food and wine is very good and reasonably priced. The owner and staff are very attentive and welcoming, creating a warm welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be returning to The Red Lion.

We’d been to the Red Lions sister pub the Minerva Arms and decided to give this one a try. From the moment we stepped through the door to the moment we left all the staff were friendly and absolutely charming. The service was fantastic, food delightful and the desserts made us roll out the pub as we’d eaten too much. Despite the attention to Covid detail, the pub has managed to keep that lovely pub atmosphere that many of the others we visited had lost. We didn’t realise we’d booked on a Rishi night so got a fair chunk off the bill. We would’ve been happy to pay the bill as it stood everything was that nice. We wish the Red Lion well and keep doing what you’re doing.

Went with my blind friend for lunch. We were both very impressed by the service as well as the food. He made every effort to make the experience good, serving us at our table, making suggestions for meals, providing drinks and keeping an eye on us all through our stay. We also saw him helping other disabled customers as well. The place is very comfortable with lots of room to walk around, but a welcoming homely atmosphere. We both really enjoyed our meals which were well presented and provided everything we needed.

We are on holiday for 2 weeks. We spotted the Red Lion on our way to our cottage and whilst exploring on our first day we popped in to check out the menu and to suss out availability following COVID restrictions. The service was absolutely fantastic on our first visit so we decided to book Mon, Tues, Weds and the following Sunday. The ladies, Hayley and Meg, could not do enough for us. We had a puppy with us and they made a fuss of him with dog biscuits. The food was hot and delicious and swapping peas for beans and accommodating swapping sauces for our children was not an issue. I would highly recommend the Prawn Cocktail and Cajun Chicken for starters and the Scampi and Rib-Eye steak for main. Although our children enjoyed the burgers with skin on fries. Starters, mains, desserts, specials board all available. Well stocked bar but sadly no Guinness (due to Covid-19 and lack of demand) but none the less we had 4 meals in the Red Lion and looking to book in for the rest of our stay. Covid-19 adjustments: One way system around the inside of the pub, hand sanitizer on entry to the pub, clean toilets, table service for food and drink and staff wearing face masks. A very busy pub but Gary and the ladies kept everything ticking over. Oh and mustn’t forget the Chef or chefs who no one sees working hard to get all the delicious meals out hot and in a timely manner

Following a recommendation, we went for an evening meal at the Red Lion and we were not disappointed. Dog friendly, with cheerful, attentive staff, the venue is very welcoming with a varied, reasonably-priced menu and a specials board. I chose the salt and pepper squid as a main course and it was absolutely superb. The food was served hot and without delay - and nothing was too much trouble. In all, this is a great venue, just a little off the beaten track.

Too many pubs are becoming restaurants where you can, if you are lucky, have a drink as long as you can find a seat outside but this lovely pub had diners and drinkers alike making for a great ambiance. We are a family of 4. Two adults, two children of 10 and 12, one of whom is extremely fussy but we all found something to our liking from the reasonably sized menu. The night we were there was "pie night" so I had a steak and ale pie whilst my wife had pork tenderloin and the children went for battered fish and chips. Food came very quickly but piping hot and of good but not massive portions. My pie was delicious. It was full of flavour and went down a treat. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her pork loin and both children polished off their meals. It is not often these days that we all have a meal in a pub and all enjoy the food. It is often very average and costs too much but with its being "pie night", I had a super meal for £10 ! 2 x fish and chips 1 x pork loin 1 x steak and ale pie 1 x pint of tribute 1 x half pint of shandy 2 x half orange and lemonade £64 ( rounded up ) All round, very good and certainly recommended.

We were pointed to this pub by their sister pub and we were lucky to get a table at such short notice. The pub is cute and small, what we would describe as a proper village pub. The service was second to none, nothing was too much trouble. Great selection of drinks and food to offer. We went for the Lion Double burger and the Pie of the day which was steak and ale! Wow! Just wow! We couldn’t get over how wonderful the food was. The quality in the produce, the quantity of food that was on our plate and the home cooked taste made our experience one of the best we’ve ever had. We sent compliments to the chef, thanked the staff for their wonderful hosting and now we will always return here and sing their praises to everyone who visits Cornwall!

As a family we all have different allergy requirements, likes and dislikes. Very few pubs can tick all the boxes and provide all with a delicious roast dinner. The Red Lion did just that. The veggie / vegan roast was the best ever. A proper home made dinner.

I hadn't seen my grandparents in a long while thanks to covid and during their weeks stay, the decision was made to go for Dinner. We decided upon the Red Lion. Brownie points were thankfully awarded after a fab dinner at The Red Lion on Saturday, we live in the village and must use the pub more often. 5 very happy diners who will be returning.

Stopped in as we were driving past and spotted the A Frame- pub is set back from the road so not easily spotted. Warm welcome on arrival. Sat in the beer garden and staff regularly checked in with us for drinks and ensuring we had all we needed - friendly and attentive service. Menu had a great variety to choose from. Food was very tasty and all 5 of us enjoyed every dish- including the kids.

Went here for our wedding anniversary and my birthday and what a great find this place turned out to be. The staff were fantastic, treated us like welcome regulars, service was spot on without being obsequious. The menu was very much traditional but with surprisingly good additions and obviously a lot of thought had gone into elevating these dishes into something special, for example I had a Prawn Cocktail starter but instead of just a pile of prawns on some lettuce it came with the most delicious salad of rocket, mixed peppers, red onion, cucumber, pea shoots and chopped nuts served with toasted sourdough bread, probably the best Prawn Cocktail I’ve ever had. As it was a Sunday they served a full roast even in the evening with a choice of meats. I opted for the lamb roast and it was the most generous serving, more than I could manage alongside huge, crispy roast potatoes, massive Yorkshire pudding, crispy kale, broccoli, cabbage, carrots and creamy leeks (these were sensational) and proper gravy. Hubby had whitebait which came with the same tasty salad and the double lion burger for his main, both of which were extremely good. The food here is not for people with small appetites, these are very generous servings and my advice would be to not eat all day in order to be able to finish your meal. The addition of being dog friendly scores extra points from us. Overall a great pub with delicious food and friendly staff and efficient service.

We arrived at the sister pub but no tables available the lovely waitress offered to call the RED Lion and booked us a table. We arrived their far to early but the the welcoming staff immediately gave us a table. You couldn't ask for better service each of the staff were friendly and welcoming. I had ribeye steak and it was cooked to perfection my husbands meal was equally as good. The portion sizes are very large so no room for deserts. Overall it was one of the best meals out we have had in a long time.

I have now brought 10 other people to eat at the Red Lion at different times during pre and post lockdown. I only live a 10 min drive away from this pub and now rate it as my favourite. Excellent quality food, delightful staff and atmosphere. Dog friendly which scores top marks too.

Booked for 3 of us to have Sunday dinner (6pm table). Seated straight away with a pleasant greeting. Drinks and food order taken efficiently and quickly. We weren’t originally planning to eat Sunday roast, but two of us selected the roast dinner and one from the main menu (gammon). Food was of excellent standard and plentiful. Vegetables including a creamy leek dish all served separately. Desert was equally good. Malteser cheesecake was lovely and brownies were thoroughly enjoyed too. Seems to be a pub popular with locals, but we were still made to feel welcome. If in the area again, we would definitely return and would recommend to others. Great food and reasonably priced.

Fantastic from answering my message via the facebook page to the welcome at the pub for all our family of 10 plus our old dog. The food was lovely, as it was a Sunday thee were some roasts and 2 of my grandaughters had roast and said it was SO good with huge yorkshire puddings, which were a hit! They also loved the creamed leeks. The service was 2nd to none. Thank you for putting up with us and I am so glad I saw the leaflet in my holiday park pack. Things to note Book as it gets very busy Preorder if there are lots of you, esp with children as it comes out just after the drinks. If having roast remember to tell them which one you want ... saves delaying the meals😀 Take your dog ... they are very welcome and ours was given her own wayer bowl and a biscuit. Thank you again. Great meal
