Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A table of 4 for a family birthday. Unfortunately for us the pub was taken for a private party and we were booked for the next day! However the staff sorted a table for us and both the food and service were excellent. The 3 ladies...were so good Well done.More

Go there whenever my wife and I get the chance, mainly for the Sunday roasts which are excellent. We were there on Christmas Day and they excelled themselves once again. Food was delicious, the poached pear dessert was wonderful. As usual the friendly atmosphere and...humorous staff were evident. Couldn't eat everything, the dishes being so plentiful, but the staff boxed up the rest for us to take home. Absolutely love this place...More

Lovely welcoming pub, excellent member of staff Finlay Blue, who was so friendly and professional and nothing was too much trouble. Outstanding chef as we both had the fish and chips and I would say it was better than the fish and chips I had...in Padstow! The batter on the fish was so succulent. Wish we had more time to have visited again as the food and service outstanding.More

Love this place. Been several times before and every time enjoyed the food and cosy atmosphere. Steak and ale pie - yummy. Meringue - amazing! Was great to see my 9 year old tuck into his jacket potato and finish the lot! Definitely advised to...beat the rush and get there early. We can’t wait to go back.More

We were here on 15th August a very helpful lady said we could eat out in the garden as we had out two small dogs with us. Nothing seemed to much trouble as at first we didn’t realise that we was sitting in the smokers...area! We soon moved up into the garden area how spacious & lovely this was! I’m writing this as the food was delicious & very well presented. I had Steak & Ale pie & my partner had a Ploughman’s . The meals were both plentiful. The Maltese-a Cheesecake with ice/ cream was to die for! Once again the waitress had garden customers all under control & nothing was to much trouble. A big Thank you for such a lovely meal. Compliments to the chef 👏🏻👏🏻More

Excellent service the bar man was lovely and very knowledgeable a real credit when I came to bar he acknowledged me and said won’t be a minute rather than ignoring me. Food was in good time fresh home made and really lovely. Dogs welcome. We...eat in beer garden by choice and dog treats were available inside. Will defiantly return and the bar man is a credit to the pub! Even with our fussy requests it wasn’t too much. Oh and gluten free options which he also was very knowledgeable! 9/8/23More

Despite being a regular visitor to the area, this was my first visit to the Red Lion. Don't be fooled by the unimpressive exterior. This a great little pub. We were made to feel extremely welcome from the moment we arrived. Service was excellent. The...food was great. I had Sea Bass, which was beautifully cooked and presented. This was accompanied by an excellent and tasty selection of veggies. Also looked a good place to come if you just want a drink, with a nice beer garden. I will return.More

This is a lovely pub which serves very good food . We had catch of the day which was Haddock with crushed bee potatoes capers, hazelnuts and a bowl of vegetables. The food was cooked really well and the staff were very good. Afterwards we...had the red lion cobbler which was lovely soft fruits cooked with apples and a very light scone on top. It’s was delicious. The prices were also very reasonableMore

The first impression is not the best but look past this. There is good beer from the bar and a good looking menu. The food is pub grub but very good. We must particularly mention our server who was excellent. The whole experience was excellent...and is to be recommended. It is probably worth booking ahead to avoid disappointment.More

Lovely friendly staff and great food! During our holiday we visited the red lion and the place is lovely and cosy. The food was fresh hot and served quickly (we ate it before taking a picture it was that good lol) it’s also great that...we could take the dogs who had their own seat and were given loads of treats! Would highly recommend and return again :)More
