The location is fab, but the service is really poor, the staff are inattentive and it’s expensive. We waited for close to 30 minutes to be served, eventually having to go and ask a member of staff to take our order. After the order was taken we waited, and waited for the drinks, on their arrival and due to the wait so far we asked how long the food might be, only to be told there was a wait of 50 minutes. We cancelled our food order, paid for our drinks and left. A very disappointing experience all round. There are some great pubs close by that offer a warm welcome, friendly service and great value.

I found out visit here irritating the venue itself is beautiful and has a great outlook the Decor is great the food was really good but the service was poor. Simply no management or leadership so colleagues have no comprehension of how things are done. Ordered out food advised our food would be 30 mins, 45 mins later 3 of the 5 meals were served, Then nothing so I chased the other 2 meals after 15 minutes couldn’t give a credible answer other then burgers take longer which Is poor and unacceptable. As we left knowbody said thank you, or any acknowledgment which again is unacceptable and poor. Hospitality is about service.

We were staying in Bude and on a sunny spring day walked along the river to The Wier ( a couple of miles) and called in for a coffee, we sat outside and enjoyed the view. The drinks were lovely and the staff very friendly and helpful too. After our drinks we decided to head inside for a mice lunch. The food here is all freshly cooked and although not the cheapest is well worth it. We ordered the chicken burger, 2 panini and a bowl of chunky chips ro share and the ham egg and chips. The 2 slices of ham were really thick and good quality. Inside there is a roaring fire with couches next to it to sit and warm up on a cold day making it feel very costy and welcoming. Therr is WiFi available if you need it, the password is on the wall behind the till. Toilets are available, they were kept very clean as people out for a walk are able to use them too as they can be accessed without going through the cafe.

So we decided to stop off for a quick bite to eat and a coffee here as we occasionally do every couple of months... and it's changed! I'm not sure for the better either. Firstly the cafe service has disappeared and has been replace by very slow table service, the prices seem 25% more expensive (£12 for a sandwich?) than before and the coffee has gone down hill a fair bit. On a positive note the chicken sandwich was really very nice but I'm not sure it was £12 nice. Is any sandwich? Much as I love the place, and have been popping in since it opened, I'm honestly not sure I will be back for a while. Shame really.

Revisited after a lovely breakfast last year. However I found the visit this time similar to other recent comments. The staff were very lukewarm in terms of welcome and it wasn't particularly busy so no real reason to not be more welcoming or conversational. Waited 20 minutes for a bacon roll and at nearly £6 it was very average and not worthy of that price. The setting and location are a plus point but they will need to up their game for me if they are to get repeat visitors.

Slowest-ever service! At 11.50 we were told lunch orders couldn't be placed until 12.00, so I waited - on my own, then first in the short queue. At 12.00 there was some query as to whether my order could be accepted; though after consultation among staff it was decided my order could be placed: 2 drinks and a small salad. It's now 55 minutes since my order - remember I was the first in the 'lunch' queue - and still no sign of our salad. When I queried the long wait I was told 'orders are delivered randomly' and they couldn't say when it might come. It's now coming up to a full hour and the other members of our party want to leave, so I'm going to demand a refund. Let's see what happens...

We came here for a Sunday roast last month with our children and sadly were very disappointed by the new set up. We booked a table for 4 and a dog, luckily the dog didn’t come. Our table had been given away even though we were ten minutes early, the staff didn’t seem to care less. Once our food arrived it was nice. Well cooked and presented, but well over priced. You have to go to the bar now to order food and drinks, which is fine, but the manager grunted when I refused to tip the staff, my comment, you don’t tip at McDonalds and you now have the same set up here. Unfortunately, The Weir is trying to be upmarket and give a fine dining experience without seeming to understand what that is, with staff who seemingly didn’t want to be there. A real shame because we used to love this venue.

We usually go with family regularly to the Weir but this visit we were disappointed by the change of menu on line so chose to go earlier for brunch. The brunch was ok but had empty bean pots so had to go to get some ourselves. Think breakfast is steep. Other members of our table wanted cream teas but despite it being 11.15 the scones were not ready. The waiter a university student was very pleasant and we did inform him that we didn’t like the new menu. We enjoy the coffee at the moment but hope that doesn’t change.

Such a shame but The Weir with it’s beautiful setting should be amazing and has been in the past. However our experience of the Friday night chill and grill was not good. I can say the food was very good but what let’s it down is the service with a complete lack of costumer care. Started off okay and the food came out quickly, but the service was non existent thereafter. During our meal no one asked if everything was okay, we waited 30 minutes after finishing our meal for the table to be cleared, never asked if we wanted another drink or offered dessert. The staff kept looking over at us but never came over, spending time on their phones, the person who I guess runs the restaurant spent the whole night looking busy but without actually doing what he should be doing which is coordinating his staff. Overall for the price of the food and drink we left extremely disappointed and rather sad that a once well run place is being run so poorly.

I’ve been a loyal customer of The Weir and the gym at the Whalesborough site for years, but lately, it feels like they’re having a bit of an identity crisis! The changes are so drastic, it’s hard to recognise the place. Let’s start with the coffee—pretty much the main reason most of us go to a coffee shop, right? Well, they’ve swapped the decent barista-made coffee for a push-button machine. If you’re a coffee lover, brace yourself for disappointment. What used to be one of the best spots for coffee, light lunches, and afternoon tea has now turned into a bit of everything: a bistro, farm shop, sports bar, BBQ joint, and even a pizzeria. They seem to be spreading themselves thin because none of it feels quite right. Maybe it’s time to go back to basics and do what they were once great at. The staff turnover is another noticeable change—feels like there’s a new face every time I visit, which is a shame because they had a solid team over the summer and the girls seemed to really got to grips with the place after the initial change of ownership. Also, they’ve switched to table service, which is nice in theory, but I’m not sure how they’ll handle the rush on a sunny weekend when walkers come straight off the canal path. Now, let’s talk cakes. A few months back, I asked for a slice of carrot cake, and the server told me it wasn’t defrosted yet. Yep, a defrosting cake at a coffee shop! You really ought to baking on site! On the bright side, the staff are friendly, the location is unbeatable, its dog friendly, great play area, and the log burner is always roaring, making for a cozy vibe with great views. But come on, guys, let’s get back to what you’re known for—good coffee, simple but tasty lunches and breakfasts, and some fresh, homemade cakes!

I can see how some people rate it 5 and just as easily see why some feel it could be a 1. Depending on your taste, time of visit/ meal, family etc. The change of menu, albeit interesting, isn’t really suitable for families with younger children. Specifically lunch. The children’s sandwiches weren’t suitable for my young children and not described very well. Perhaps better description of those would have helped us avoid ordering them. Coffee was very nice, but I think we experienced that prior to some changes made mentioned on recent reviews. I really enjoyed the chicken flatbread and it the cream tea was delicious. The Weir has always been our go to local spot given we are regulars at Whalesborough but unfortunately we didn’t frequent as often this holiday due to the menu changes. The staff cited a ‘new award winning chef’ as reason for the changes but perhaps it’s alienating some of the regulars? All in all it’s a good establishment but some of the tweaks made, shows the desired pathway the new ownership want to take the business.

A bit disappointing after previous visits. Sat outside in the lovely setting, went inside to ask for a menu and was faced with a young girl who did not say hello, smile or barely make eye contact. Decided to just have coffees and order was taken by a very pleasant man but waited 25 minutes for them to arrive. Did not see any of the young staff engage with customers in fact they looked fed up even though it didn’t seem particularly busy. A great place to walk to but needs to do better as, living locally, we know that there are plenty of places to eat and drink

I was completely and fully satisfied with my service, as a local I have been here a few times before and recently they have implemented table service. I was greeted at the door by a kind woman by the name of sue if I remember correctly and immediately she seated us and brought us menus. She came back perfectly timed a few minutes later to take our drinks orders that were delicious. I got a Latte which was amazing as per, and later ordered the farmhouse breakfast. It was delivered to me in a quick 10 minutes and was still piping hot which is always a good sign. All the food was delicious and as I was finishing my latte my server sue came over and asked if everything was okay and if I wanted another drink which I thought was lovely. I finished everything off and was swiftly brought the bill which was much cheaper than I expected which is lovely to see. I paid my bill, said my appreciations to the staff and left. What a lovely place to sit for a morning coffee and breakfast. Sue has always been a great help!

Having visited The Weir many times in the past, and it being our regular first breakfast stop of our holiday, we were looking forward to our visit again this year. We were surprised to find it less busy than previous visits. At 9.20am with only 3 other couples and one group of 6 in the cafe, we ordered 2 big cooked breakfasts and 2 teas. The drinks came straight away, the waitress was very pleasant. We then waited for our food which arrived just after 10am! It was tasty however toast was cold and didn't even melt the butter, it had the smallest and weirdest version of a hogs pudding we've ever seen - looked like an end piece of sausage, the bacon was over cooked and hard, poached eggs also over done and solid. Overall tasty but disappointing compared to previous visits and took far too long for food to arrive. Hoping this was just an off morning for the chef and not a sign of things to come.

We visited here daily whilst holidaying and the breakfasts were excellent. We are both gluten free so it was lovely to have all breakfast items freely and the staff were always checking for cross contamination issues. It was lovely to see the little Shetland ponies going by the lake for their daily walk, their morning routine became our delight. This would have been a 5* review if they served fresh orange juice as I have allergies to sweeteners and the orange juice drink that served was loaded with them.
