Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Usually unable to fault the food here, but very disappointed tonight as our meals were blighted by frozen fries, not even what I would call chips, despite the gammon and beer battered cod being advertised in the menu as being served with rustic chips. We...pay enough for the food, prices have nearly doubled here, but come on…if you charge £18 for a cod meal, or £19 for a 10oz gammon steak meal, I expect the quality to carry through to the chips you advertise on your menu. We were not warned that rustic chips were not available and that we would have to make do with cheap frozen chips. How can you advertise one thing and then sell well short? Sort it out please. Serve what you promise on your menu, bot just what you feel you can get away with!More

First had no record of our reservation made a month in advance. We order the rump steaks both to be cooked medium rare (en point). When they arrived they were both overcooked and look like flash fry steaks, not rump steaks. I did complain the...waiter said, I will tell the chef probably a cook , but no apology or recompense offered. The vegetables obviously frozen, not fresh at all. The dessert seemed good on the menu, but nothing special probably again not freshly made. All in all very poor and disappointing for the price. NO recommendations from us.More

Had lunch here today with friends, had a table booked as gets really busy but the weather was so good we sat outside. Lovely large seating area not too close to each other. Staff were friendly and helpful. Friends had the roast and were really...impressed, all aspects of it were good. Husband had the gammon said it’s best he’s had. I had a beautifully presented prawn cocktail (not had in years) was just right and hit the spot. A lovely place to eat would definitely recommend and will be back.More

Visited with a table of 14 for a birthday lunch. Food was preordered and a deposit paid. Table was at 1:45 but the food didn't come out for 30mins. Food was nice but overpriced. Cajun chicken breast, jacket potato and salad £15. 330ml Peroni 0%...£4.40! Location was convenient but probably wouldn't visit again. Much better options nearby with better value and better service.More

Whilst holidaying in st Austell Cornwall came across this gem of a place in Par, turned up on a rainy Sunday without a booking hoping to get lunch. They managed to fit us in after a short wait as it was very busy and we...weren't disappointed, we decided on the Sunday lunch, I had beef and the wife had pork. The food was amazing, homemade Yorkshire puddings, perfectly cooked fresh vegetables and very plentiful, service was also excellent and so glad we found this place, can't recommend it enough. Trust me you won't be disappointed and very reasonably priced for what you receive.More

I have lived in Cornwall for 25 years. We expected a pub dinner, but Waves was a surprise as it's an elegant well laid out restaurant. It has a quiet atmosphere isolated from the noisier pub area. The food was outstanding. We both had gammon steak, which was fresh, tender tasty and cooked...to perfection. The chips were honestly the best I've ever had in the UK. The Portobello mushroom and tomato were very tasty too. Good service friendly staff and very reasonable prices. Definitely be coming back next time we visit our family in CornwallMore

Went as a party of four for dinner. Very impressive large pub with rooms. Well maintained dining areas with very pleasant outside seating area and play area for children. Staff professional and friendly. My starter was mozzarella cheese sticks. Plenty of sticks served with a...tasty dip. Having had bubble and squeak in restaurants before I chose the Chief’s bubble and squeak as my main. Very bland and tasteless which was a big disappointment. Had a good lunch in May 2022 whilst visiting friends in Cornwall as result of which this restaurant was chosen for a last night meal. In fairness the three other people in our party were happy with the food produced so overall a pleasant evening was had.More

Had a relaxed evening here with some of the family. Staff did their best on a super busy evening to welcome us. We felt looked after. Menu was straightforward but everything was cooked well. Staff were well informed about gluten free diets and the menu...was clear about what was was gluten free and what could be adapted. Portions were BIG so if you have a big appetite you won’t be disappointed. This would definitely have been a go to when my children were younger as there was a great play area outside and a chilled out atmosphere.More
