Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic find. We have passed this many times but called in as we have visitors with us. It was absolutely well worth the visit

Excellent brewery tour led by Dave. Lots of interesting information about the history of the brewery, how it operates today and of course the important bit the tasting of a wide range of beers! The perfect way to spend a rainy day ending with a really good lunch in the Hicks Bar. Highly recommend.

The Brewery tour was informative and enjoyable, led by a great guide. There was opportunity to taste the various beers and discuss the merits and makeup of each one. After sampling quite a few we had an excellent burger in Hicks Bar. We really recommend visiting the brewery if you are in the area.

A great place to visit and sample beers on a rainy day . Have lunch in the Hicks bar and then join a tour, learn how their beer is brewed and sample many of their speciality beers. Tour guide Dave gave an amusing and informative tour of the brewery finishing with a lot of samples! Elect a driver before you start the tour.

We attended this morning for breakfast. It’s a lovely atmosphere in there and the breakfast itself was delicious! It seemed like very good quality products. Our only niggles were that there were no breakfast menus on the table, and as it was our first visit we didn’t realise we had to order at the bar, so we waited some time for someone to take our order before we realised.

David showed us around. It's the off-season, so there was only myself and another couple, which made it more of a nice conversation rather than a speech. There was a brief history of the family business with some anecdotes thrown in. A talk through the brewing process and how it has evolved over the centuries. A look around the plant and into the tasting room. We sampled a broad spectrum of beers. Some tastes I've never experienced before. Special thanks to David for the tour, the knowledge, the banter, and the laughs. My wife then joined me in the onsite Hicks Bar. We had a lovely pub lunch and some more beer.

Decided to do some Christmas shopping at the brewery shop. The lady was most helpful and we got almost everything we wanted for Christmas. The only downside was that the Brewery no longer make the kegs which I wanted. Will have to get my Kegs from a competitor. Please St Austell Brewery can you start selling the mini kegs again. A very disappointed Cornish ale drinker

had to visit the brewery whilst we were in the area (husband loves Proper Job) did the tour with Dave, he was a fantastic host with lots of stories about the history of the Brewery, incredible knowledge about the processes and the various samples that husband got to taste. Stopped in the shop on the way out to buy various beers we've not heard of before or can't get in our local stores. Lady in shop was really helpful with packing to make sure we'd get everything home in one piece..

Last place to visit on our week's holiday in Cornwall. Just six of us on the tour which was just right. The informative tour lasted about an hour and a half which was taken by laid back but informative Dave. The admission price included some beer tasting and a free bottle of your choice. The gift shop was well stocked with varied reasonable priced items and curios. Not forgetting all of the brewery's beer on sale too. Throughly recommended a visit even if you are not a beer lover.

This is just another bar, tables sticky, food average, staff were great. We were all disappointed I expected better, if I wanted better I thought as it was the brewery's H/O it would be a cut above, it's not.

Very interesting tour of the St Austell brewery with Dave. He made it fun too, with stories and facts all about the brewery and family behind it. Got to taste lots of the drinks brewed on the premises, lots that we’ve not seen before. Would recommend if you’re going to be in the area.

Booked a brewery tour in advance on the website and had a fabulous time. Dave was a super guide- knowledgeable, personable and fielded questions that tour members had. We received a brief history of the company and then were taken through the Small Batch brewery where the brewing process was fully explained. The formal part of the visit was finished off with testing 8 very different beers. As we sampled the beers it was noticeable how much more chatty the tour members became! After this ended guests either went for their complimentary beer in Hicks Bar or used their token to take a bottle of beer home. All in all, great value for a couple of hours if you’re at all interested in beer. Heartily recommended
