My granddaughter looked for unigue things/restaurants to go to while in Charleston, SC and came across this name. We decided to try it and when pulling up said no way, but went inside and it is a small quaint Southern Restaurant. Martha Lou does all of the cooking and it is a little pricey and each day has 3 items... More

This is a real southern hole in the wall run by 3 charming ladies. Not fancy, but real. The best southern fried chicken, fish, chops etc with great side dishes: red rice, Cholard greens, potato salad, corn bread and coleslaw. If your looking for authentic, then this is the place. If your looking for down home cooking, then this is... More

There is no pretension here. Even with the accolades and modest amount of fame, this is as it started out to be; Southern Home Cooking. The plasticwear and foam plates suite this place. The ridiculously small, open kitchen ... and the welcome you receive from the people here ... as much as the food ... will win you over. We... More

We wanted to experience Gullah cuisine and this was recommended by someone who lives in Charleston. The four of us had a fabulous lunch. My husband is still talking about the Lima beans! Short Uber from historic district.

This was the intended first stop after we landed and we're on our way into downtown. It's a very cozy place with limited seating. Of the four occupied tables, three others were also first time vacationers. I don't know what these sweet older women are doing , but this is the best tasting fried chicken we've had anywhere. The soul... More

Stopped here for lunch right when they opened at 11. We were the first ones there, but by the time we left people were waiting for a table. There are zero frills here, but that's why I liked it. It's very small, maybe 6-7 tables, you're served on Styrofoam plates and plastic silverware. Everyone was very nice, and we could... More

On a whim we went to Martha Lou's for a late lunch. The place is not much to look at from the outside, but don't let appearances fool you. There's good stuff and a friendly welcome waiting for you inside this homey little soul food place. Rotating menu with the usual staples. Nothing fancy but that can be a good... More

The food was delicious! The pork chops and lima beans were cooked just right. True southern cooking.

Don't let the looks of the place scare you away. The food was GREAT, get there early they run out. Different things to eat every day. I had wings, wife had ribs, her favorite thing was the greens. Mine was the wings and mac& cheese, we will go back again when we are in the area!
