We have visited The Star on many occasions. It's in a beautiful setting and there's a great atmosphere. The service is impeccable without being overbearing, staff are always friendly and welcoming- a special mention to Kay who greeted us. The quality of the meals were...of the highest standard- the steak and ale pie, halibut special and sticky toffee puddings were the standouts for us. The Star is one of the best restaurants in the area along with The Westwood at Beverley. Thank you to Ben, Lindsay and the team for a fantastic visit.More
After hearing rave reviews about the Star at Sancton we eagerly awaited our Dinner reservation in October. We were totally blown away by the quality of our amazing meal and of the professional service and attention to detail that we received on a very busy...evening. We cannot wait to return! Having recently visited 2 Michelin Star restaurants within close proximity the Star is right up there with the best of them. I would highly recommend this restaurant, Ben and Lindsey are excellent hosts!More
We are regular visitors here. We went for Sunday lunch with friends. The food is excellent as are the friendly staff, all in a warm and comfortable setting. I have to be a little careful with what I eat and they always make sure that...I am catered for. Well recommended.More
Staying in Sancton on holiday. Read reviews and booked a table. We were not disappointed. We had a 5 star welcome and a 5 star meal. We chose Venison and the fish pie for our main meal. Both were delicious. Everybody was really friendly and...attentive. We would definitely return if we come here again.More
Called in on spec for lunch on our way back from holiday without booking. Greeted with the warmest welcome and the biggest smile by Kay. Every restaurant in the country should have a 'Kay', front of house. We selected from the 'Yorkshire Lunch' menu. The...food was absolutely delicious. We were told this menu will be changed monthly, so we'll be back in October to sample the next one. Couldn't have rounded off our little holiday more pleasantly.More
Had a delicious meal , shared a starter of home cured salmon - divine, our mains of lamb and the house special cod were exceptional, simply the best
Lovely pub/restaurant, great atmosphere, lovey attentive staff and the best pie ever!!! Pie is a decent size with mouth watering shredded meat throughout with a little special touch of a star on top of the pastry. Fabulous experience, we will definitely be back!
We visited The Star at Sancton with friends as we have often done. The food has always been excellent in the past. This time we all noticed that the vegetables were as hard as rock and some were hard to eat at all. The rest...of the food was good but the prices have gone up so much that it is no longer good value. I would advise that someone should sample the vegetables that are served and see what I mean. I know things are tough in the catering industry but I for one will not be willing to pay the extra price for food that is now not so special as it used to be.More
Arrived for Sunday lunch, the waitress took our drink order, and also asked us if we would like some water, which we said we would, the drinks arrived but not the water, Ordered a pork Sunday lunch and the rump lamb, both arrived cold, very...little lamb on the plate and not much else, side order of vegetables arrived again stone cold and rock hard. On clearing our plates the waitress asked if we would like to order desserts and coffees, which we did as still hungry after the poor standard of main meals, after waiting about 15mins we were asked again if we would like to order more drinks, we told her we had already along with desserts, she said she would go and get them, never came, Then the original waitress came and asked the same thing, I informed her she had already taken our order, to which she admitted she had failed to submit to the kitchen, we got up to pay, only to find the desserts and coffees had made there way onto our bill but not to our table, just a joke from start to finish, They took the desserts and coffees from our bill before I paid, I made my thoughts on service clear, so they deducted our soft drinks from the bill, paid the bill which came to £50, so not the experience we hoped for, very unlikely to return.More
Fantastic food, service and environment. The team at The Star are amazing, they offer amazing service and the food is incredible. Today we had Sunday roast dinner - phenomenal! And the personalised service is the best ever! Highly recommend this lovely restaurant.
My Husband and I went for Dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. We were moved from the main dining room and placed in the bar. This was perfect, we loved where we were sitting next to the fireplace which enabled us to chat and not...have other diners too close by. We have been before and our experience was also great. We will be back again soon.More
A truly amazing pub boasting excellent food and very attentive staff. I have eaten here on numerous occasions with my wife, family and friends and each time it has been perfect. The food is exquisite and perfectly combines fine dishing with great British pub classics....The menu is continually tweaked meaning there’s always something new to try on each visit. I’d highly recommend this establishment to anyone contemplating a visit.More
Very very good food and lots of it. Just sorry I couldn’t finish it all. Attentive staff, a good wine list and a buzzing ambiance. Would highly recommend.
Having been a number if times before we had high expectations as the food and service had always been excellent. This time , however, we were left very disappointed. The welcome and service were excellent but the food was below par. I did not feel...the combinations of food for the pork belly dish were well matched. The belly pork itself was lovely but the whole onion was too hard/undercooked. The lamb rump which should have melted in your mouth was verging on the tough, the celeriac undercooked and hard. the jus was non descript. Most of the desserts chosen were either overbaked (the frangipane was dry instead of moist, there was no necessary caramelisation and the Basque cheesecake) or just not interesting enough to justify the price. All in all a lacklustre performance. What a shame!!!More
