So many times a day out in the rural parts is ruined by being unable to find food when needed. Ballycastle is not, on the face of it, a place to expect such a delightful place to eat 7 days a week. Mary's Cottage Kitchen which opened in 1997 serves a limited but satisfying selection of homemade food in a... More

While passing through Ballycastle we saw Mary's Cottage Kitchen and thought we'd just stop for a quick snack..........and we were so glad we did. We had a South African couple with us, and I guess Mary heard the accents, and she was over to us with maps and advise of some local attractions. She was extremely friendly and helpful.......we discussed... More

I hadn't been to Mary's Cottage Kitchen in a few years, however, this past October & November, I stopped in on three separate occasions for a meal... What can I say? It is as if I stepped back in time visiting one of my great aunties. The ambiance is totally relaxing, the fireplace was stoked & the food can not... More

This little gem is handily located in Ballycastle pretty much in the middle of nowhere about half way between the Ceide Fields and Downpatrick Head. Mary has a seriously impressive number of awards on her wall and on opening the door it is like walking into a real home from home with a roaring fire, an array of ornaments, interesting... More

Driving around Co. Mayo looking for lunch can be 'interesting' on a Sunday - but I was very lucky, Mary's Kitchen was open and I even met Mary, a very jovial lady. I ordered a vegie toastie, with soup and tea, not in that order. It was great, with friendly staff and even a newspaper to read. A few fun... More

Found this little gem on route and decided to stop for a light lunch. It is a small cottage restaurant and the furniture typical, wood tables and chairs. It seems to be a family run with Mary been the cook. When we arrived the place was packed and we had to wait quite a while to be served and for... More

We came across Mary's quite by accident in the unassuming village of Ballycastle when we were looking for somewhere for a light lunch on the coast road. They have an impressive cluster of culinary awards on the outside wall, which are fully justified by the standard of the impeccably fresh food. Inside it's a pretty coffee shop, and there are... we are roadtripping around ireland for 2 weeks and we've been to many cafes, pubs, tea rooms. My daughter loves quiche and she's had various versions of it these days. She gives a 10/10 to this one, that is a mark!! the rest of fsmily had soup, black pudding and eggs with salmon. Everything delicious and we could not skip... More

We stopped here mid morning for a coffee on our way to view nearby Downpatrick Head. Very cozy. The menu looked delightful for lunch but since we only had coffees those were wonderful and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
