Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food was excellent on both occasions that we ate at the restaurant (one evening meal and Sunday lunch). The waiting staff were very polite and helpful. The view from the restaurant is stunning.

We booked to have our daughter's christening reception at the Sommerville and had a fantastic day! Everyone was so impressed with the food and the staff were great and very accommodating. I dealt a lot with Kristjan on the lead up who was quick at...responding and efficient. He was also very welcoming and helpful on the day along with other management and staff (even when I was doing some last minute place name changes). We were lucky to have a sunny day and the views were particularly stunning. Thank you very much, it made a special day even better!More

We booked Tides for our lunch celebration. The staff were so welcoming from entering the hotel Tony greeted us straight away and showed us to the restaurant. We were given a choice of tables and had the most perfect view. Beth was our server and...we could not fault a thing! She was pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and plenty of choices. We will certainly return. Thank you.More

We booked the Afternoon Tea and added a glass of champagne as a bit of a treat . It was all beautifully presented and very tasty, I would have liked a little more savoury (maybe a cheese scone rather than a plain and a fruit)...but that’s just my preference. Staff were lovely and very friendly. And you can’t beat the view on a sunny day!More

Birthday cream tea, The Somerville hotel is a beautiful building and excellent decor ,we were greeted very nicely and seated and asked for our drink order , which seemed to be forgotten and another waiter took it again . The cream tea was nice but...felt like we were dismissed a bit, some places make you feel extra special in my opinion.More

Nicely presented restaurant set within a hotel, they have parking (which we had not realised) and parked at the bottom of the hill in the public car park. We had a window table overlooking the beautiful views of the bay. The menu was strange, on...Sundays there is 20% off the set menu but when totalling the issues it actually works out the same as choosing them individually or a mere 50p off, it did not feel valuable that way, might as well just go la carte, and for the non 20% days depending on the most of the dishes ordered actually works out less or the same. They might as well not bother having set menu options. The starter of terrine was nice, with the mains we were not told it would have Jersey royal potatoes. We mentioned to the waitress we would like to try some and so will add an extra side, she should have mentioned there was some with the mains and in the end we wasted most of it (which we do not like wasting food). She was not very receptive when we mentioned it. For the sauce of the pork, the gravy was too salty and intense but the rest of the meal was nice.More

We had a super 3 course meal at Tides on Sunday 5th May. The service was excellent as were the flavours and presentation of the food. The vegetable portions are quite small so I think you need 1 each rather than 1 to share, unless...you are having 2 different ones between 2 people. The view from the restaurant is amazing and I love all the bright colours of the decor. It is well worth the walk up the hill.More
