I haven’t visited the Portelet for some years. I was impressed to see a large menu with lots of variety. The walnut and bean burger was amazing. So great to have a wholemeal roll (which isn’t usually available in other places) and coleslaw with no mayonnaise - didn’t need the chips at all. Just need refined sugar free dessert options and it would be even more amazing,

This is not the place it used to be, sadly but last visit MANY years ago! We were so looking forward to our meal here but it didn't live up to expectations sadly. It didn't bode well when I waited almost 15 minutes for my Pimms, which eventually arrived in a half pint glass, lemonade clearly visible in the bottom half of the glass Pimms resting on top, a couple of pieces of lemon/lime, bit of a strange explanation given and £4.05 for the trouble, didn't taste great either. Drinks menu on the table looked grotty like it had previously got wet, dried out and put back on the table, all crumpled and sticky. Various things not available on the menu, including what we would both have ordered-fish pie. Hubby had fish and chips, very average. I chose salmon fillet which was nice but too much cold salad, no sign of the chimichurri dressing-I couldn't be bothered to ask by this time! Such a shame yet some of the previous reviews I've seen have been ok ish- maybe we were just unlucky?

Took the family of 13 for Mothers Day lunch, the food , service was outstanding. The choice was al a carte or 3 x special roast dinners consisting of roast Beef, Chicken or Pork, I had the roast beef and the meat was plentiful and not fatty .. The food off the al a carte for the others was brilliant too

We booked a table (online) for a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) to celebrate an anniversary. The day we were due to arrive we were contacted by portelet inn to say there was a problem with their booking service and it had taken double bookings and could we sit by the play area. We arrived and as we walked to our seat my son whos autistic said he was excited to play and the man showing us the seat rudely turned to him and said your too big for the play area. We were seated right beside the play area. The staff were extremely rude to us, it was like being in a playbarn. We spent £100 the food was amazing so well done to the chefs but the front serving were awful and we nearly walked out they were so rude to us. We watched a lady on her phone who should have been serving. as a pregnant lady serving was running around. No one asked us if we wanted to have anymore drinks before our food arrived we had to ask. I think as we were a family we were moved there and there was no issue with booking as the place was empty and we were unable to enjoy the restaurant that we wanted to spend time in and came out 20 mins out of our way to dine in . Never again and i would not recommend it for a family unless you want to go to a playbarn

Unfortunately for such a pretty inn in such a lovely location, the staff were unhelpful and perplexed when we requested food mid-afternoon. Three of them were hanging around behind the bars but we were informed the kitchen was closed. Having just got off a flight we wanted a sandwich or anything light (which let's face it, anyone can put together) but were told there was nothing but bags of crisps until the evening. We would have happily spent money on whatever food was available; instead we were made to feel like an inconvenience. Very odd.

We had a lovely meal here on a Monday night. We had booked for 7pm and the drinks order and food order was taken reasonably quickly. Drinks were brought, and then starters. We then waited too long for our main courses. I don't mind a bit of a wait, rather than straight from one to another, but this was too long. I can't remember if anyone checked to see if everything was ok with our meals, but after finishing the main course, we waited 40 minutes until someone came to see if we wanted a dessert, and then only because I caught someones eye. All other guests were finished and had left. We were in the back room, with no windows, and I think we got forgotten about. Staff were clearing and cleaning up, as they stopped taking orders after 8.30pm. Staff seemed to be serving all over the pub. Perhaps if they were given an area each, they could remember where they were up to. (I heard one couple trying to pay several times, as they were rushing for the bus which only runs every hour.) We did get desserts eventually, but our original waitress only appeared when we were paying. The food was great, but the service definitely needs work.

Hi Kimeuk, Thank you for your feed back and I must apologies for the wait on dessert, waiting this amount of time does seem unusual and falls short of the usual high standards at the Portelet Inn, I will make sure that the team receive a copy of your feed back and we include waiting times and acknowledgements in our next team training session.

Cracking location, and beautiful view. We had to eat inside due to COVID staff shortage and it being a cooler day; which we were advised ahead of the booking. I can imagine it would be so much better if you can pick a warmer day and eat outside. The staff were really good and friendly. The menu is huge, which is always an eyebrow raiser, but have to say the food we all had was good. The sizzling prawns were especially good. In summary it was good pub grub. I’d recommend this place for a lunchtime (having walked past it the day earlier) and seen those having a drink outside overlooking the amazing bay. Thanks for your great service and taking our booking - you’re all doing a great job with big staff shortages - so thank you.

Stood at the top of the cliff overlooking Portelet bay, (on the 12a bus route if you're not driving) this was a real find...in fact we booked another meal here on our last night in jersey. You can walk down to the bay but its very steep and mainly steps. You cant see the bay from the Inn but it has a lovely outside eating area and several outside areas to sit and have a drink/coffee. We booked online, it wasnt possible to get a table 'on the day' but we booked a day ahead and had a choice of times each day. The crab and king prawn linguine is fabulous. My husband had sea bass and said it was beautiful. I'd had crab linguine at the Crab Shack in St. Brelards bay and that definitely wasn't a patch on this (in fact it was spaghetti not linguine). The Portelet dish has a wonderful sauce that coats the linguine with so many flavours and ingredients . Plenty of crab, a few king prawns and some salad leaves and its a good sized dish so you need to be hungry or miss the starter. Doing the latter however would be a shame if you like salt and pepper squid (which I do) as its cooked just right here, comes with a lovely salad and dip, had it each time we visited it was so good! We reserved a table for two and each time this was at the back of the Inn which did feel a bit like a corridor for the staff but the service was great, fairly quick and not overly expensive, I would say for the quality of the food it was exceptional value. There is another place to eat down in the bay, but as I struggle with steep steps we didn't get down there unfortunately. The Portelet Inn is a highly recommended from me though .

Portelet catered for us with 15 minutes notice, we had 6 kids and they all demolished they food. We sat outside under the marquee which was perfect. Food was delivered quickly for a big order and was perfect for a quick lunch. Not fine dining but good pub grub.

During our recent 10 day visit to Jersey we ate here on 5 nights having been recommended by local resident customers while eating elsewhere. The other nights were all at Randalls Eateries & we took advantage of their “Loyalty Card” scheme and effectively had one evening pretty much for free – get signed-up before you travel & the card will be sent to your home address ready for immediate use on your arrival. There is ample room outside if you wish to eat (or just drink) there (weather permitting) and of course, the position overlooking Portelet Bay is wonderful. We tried a selection of choices including Pork Chop which was a “special” on a couple of days and was without doubt, the tastiest and most tender Pork Chop that we have eaten anywhere. Everything ordered was very nicely presented and cooked. Even with the Jersey-wide shortage of staff in the hospitality sector, the staff were all very obliging, friendly and hard working. They seemed (good for them) to be popular with local families/groups so can on occasion be more busy – but we never had to wait long for our meals. There is a very large car-park at the rear of the building. If we ever make a return visit, this will be our number 1 “go to” dining establishment and would have no hesitation in recommending to others.

Visited the Portelet Inn between Christmas and New Year with two friends. We were “greeted” by a terse member of staff and shown to a table without a word. We later ordered a pizza to share which was served by the same member of staff. I asked for three plates which he ignored as did another member of staff. I went to the bar and asked Mr Unfriendly if the manager was in. He pointed to a woman who was serving in the back bar- I asked him to let her know that I would like to speak to her when she was free and he replied that I would have to tell her myself as he was very busy. A totally obnoxious man who has ensured I will not go back. In fairness the manager did come and see us and told us that our experience was totally out of character and that she would talk to him later to find out why he had behaved as he had.

Visited here as weve had lovely meals of many years. All i can say is my burger meal at £16 and my husbands fish chips dinner were presented terrible a few chips slung on the plate fish dumped on top. Fish was tasty. When i came to pay there was a 3rd persons dinner on my bill. The women serving just took the bill back, the young blonde chap said politely was that me. The women gave me a new bill didnt say a word no apology couldnt have given a monkeys. This was around 7 15 tuesday they werent busy. I was so disapointed and cross I told the woman staff member quietly the food presentation was very poor she said nothing Her attitude has ruined years of the happy memories i had here with my family. Very poor.

Very disappointed in food and seating. The restaurant was freezing cold we did ask if the heating could be turned up but was told it was on full. We were freezing cold so uncomfortable. When food came it was not hot either. We ordered of main menu that in its self was the wrong thing. We felt it was just heated up as the lettuce was actually cooked in the burger it could not have been the heat from burger as this was only lukewarm. So very very disappointed as this was a farewell lunch and was ruined.

Dear Maureen E, Thank you for your comment and review. I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. This is not what we would want for our customers to feel or experience in any way at all. I would very much welcome the opportunity to discuss your experience in person. 5 adults and two children for Sunday dinner. No Sunday roasts available which is hard to understand in a restaurant that wasn't very busy. I don't want to be unkind but it's a poor menu and not great value. The pie was nice which was a plus. The drinks order took an age to arrive and the young lady who served us didnt seem very sure of what was available. My kids love the play area but to say it was filthy is an understatement. The smell was so foul I didn't let the children go back inside once I realised how awful it was. I love the location and appreciate how good it could be but it's just not in a place that would invite me to rush back. Please at least address the foul childrens play area and I'd give it another go. I want my children to be safe and clean. Sorry Portlet Inn.

Hi Andysky, I was sorry to read that you did not enjoy your visit to the Portelet Inn, I am afraid that we had a very high demand for Sunday roast and unfortunately we did run out by late afternoon as one can never tell how many roast will be sold in high temperature weather which is regrettable and we will of course prepare many more portions going forward, the Pirates Pete's children's play area has just had a full professional clean by a reputable company so I am at a loss of where the foul smell was coming from! We always take on board our customers comments and I would like to thank you for your feed back.

When booking I asked for upstairs but it was explained that it wasn't open. However when we arrived it was explained that a second booking had requested upstairs and so they had reserved our table in The Loft. We had lovely views on a balmy Autumnal evening of Portelet Bay with an excellent meal. Moules a la Creme was excellent. Good size moulds in a very tasty sauce followed by an excellent sea bass with Jersey new potatoes which was superb. Attentive service. I see that I posted at this time last year too. I think that this year was just as good - probably better. Thank you to all the team at Portelet Inn.
