Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My partner and I had the duck parfait to start and beef wellington for main during our short trip in Guernsey and it was hands down the best food we had all week. Hats off to the chef! Will come again

Was looking in St Peters for a proper pub and we found then Swan
It gets a bit busy - good sign - they do local beers as well as London Pride
Service was really good and made to feel really welcome

We ate here twice while in St Peter Port in September. The first time we had the best fish and chips I've ever tasted and I fell in love with sticky toffee pudding. The second time was a little more relaxing since it wasn't as crowded.

We popped in here at 6:00pm on a Sunday evening and were greeted by ear-splitting music and a dozen or so, very drunk youths. The girl behind the bar had clearly lost control.
Avoid like the plague.

Despite them saying they serve lunch, they don't. This pub is located all the way at one end of town and we walked down there because they got such good reviews only to find they aren't serving middday. It was probably for the best however since the pub absolutely reeked of smoke.

Very quiet on a Thursday late lunchtime.
This pub has a nice interior and is close to the harbour and seafront.
Currently there is no chef so the kitchen is closed; I tried the only real ale and it was off so I ended up with lager - worse things happen at sea I suppose. The Sauvignon came from a small plastic bottle which did not impress my wife.
All in all not a successful visit....

Recommended by reception staff at Old Government House Hotel, and they were spot on. Good sellection of beers/lagers and wholesome food on menu. Excellent pie & chips, plenty of meat in the pie, and a just-right pastry crust. Good value for money, even for the pint of Export. Not very busy so suited me for watching the match on TV.

The food we ate here was so delicious! I had the lentil and cauliflower pie and chips and it was so so yummy! One of the best pies I've ever eaten! My mums steak pie was apparently also very yummy as well as my sister's lasagne! The only bad point about the restaurant is that there is only one vegetarian option and no dessert menu on a Tuesday!

This place serves excellent steak & ale pies. Barmaid told me they are made on the premises but I think they were supplied from outside. However, very nice pies. No veg came with it except mash , where was the veg. If they don't do veg this place is overpriced. Good pies tho !

A few of us decided to have dinner here after hearing that they had won awards for their pies and had a good reputation for burgers. I must say I was very disappointed with the food. We ordered an array of burgers and a pie and out of 6 only 2 were happy with their food.
The duck burger was a patty formed of what looked like processed duck. It had no flavour and no real colour. We called the waitress over and asked her if this was indeed the duck burger, she picked up the plate and looked at the burger and stated that it was. When we enquired about why it wasn’t fresh duck she told us that fresh duck doesn’t hold together as a burger. We accepted this but said that for the price we had been expecting something of better quality.
The chicken breast burgers had no flavour at all.
The chicken curry pie was a let-down. The chicken was not fresh breast and the colour was an orangey red. The actual curry reminded me of a cheap microwave meal. The pastry on top was very soggy. The lady came over towards the end of the meal and asked how things were and I advised the pie was not very nice and not as expected.
She did apologise for the situation and offered those who were unhappy a dessert or a coffee. When we asked for the dessert menu we were told all that was available was a lemon tart, ice cream or cheese. I advised the server that the menu choice was quite poor given it was a Friday evening. We declined the offer, paid up and left.
I will likely return again and I am hoping that this was just a blip because I have heard such good reviews about this place.

Definitely need to visit that place if you like traditional old pubs. It’s what I pictured an English Pub to be like. Cozy, nice fireplace, good drinks, wonderful food and very friendly and helpful staff. Originally we entered just for a drink but after the menu was so nicely presented to us there was no chance not to try it. I picked a burger , my wife decided to try the traditional steak and ale pie. I really liked that I have to build my own burger the way I exactly want it. The food came pretty quick and it was absolutely delicious…just you have to try it to understand what I mean. We will certainly visit this pub again next time we’re in Guernsey and we highly recommend it.

When a family member has dietary requirements - particularly for medical reasons - going out requires a bit more planning. Usually, this is fixed by having a quick look at the menu beforehand to make sure that some options are available but on rare occasions contacting the restaurant fixes any additional problems as most tend to be willing to make an allowance or provide an alternative menu. That was exactly the case when we contacted the management of The Swan, who assured us that on the night of our booking there would be an option to suit us.
When a family member's birthday came up, they chose The Swan after hearing it offered one of the best burgers on the island. We checked the menu, found nothing suitable for my sister (who suffers from stabbing stomach pains or, occasionally, vomiting after ingesting certain foods or foods cooked in particular ways, e.g. frying) so decided to contact the management before making a booking. We discovered that the soup of the day would be okay - the only thing, as apparently the vegetarian menu consists of a mushroom starter, mushroom burger and vegetable pie. They were made aware of our situation and took our booking, so we assumed the hurdle was passed.
When we arrived, we checked the specials with a waitress and, sure enough, the soup was correct. However, some time after ordering we were approached again and informed that there was no tomato soup and we'd have to select something else from the menu. Strange, when no other people seemed to be dining! After some pressure, an alternative was ordered but was not suitable and my sister ended up dining on bread rolls.
I can't fault the waiting staff, who were helpful and apologetic and presumably had nothing to do with whatever happened in the kitchen, but I do consider it very poor to be aware of such a situation - including the reason, the date of our visit and the required meal, which was not even a diversion from that day's menu - and be either unwilling or unprepared to accommodate it after offering assurances.
The rest of the food was just okay. The calamari starter was chewy, but the steak was cooked well. The fish and chips was just okay, and the burger a bit disappointing after rave reviews. The selling point seems to be the ability to design your own burger, selecting the type of burger, bun, salad and extras. Despite going over the choices twice, the burger arrived with an additional unwanted item which we a surprise we soon removed!
Overall, an anticipated celebration turned into a pretty disappointing night with average food on almost all accounts; particularly for one of us! I should hope that the management take better care of people with dietary requirements in the future, particularly when fully aware of the situation. Very disappointed!

Having ordered one starter and three mains for three people the starter came out with two main courses which then left the person who had ordered the starter eating their main course on their own! We questioned the waiter about the starter coming out with mains and he said it was his decision! Sorry but despite the food and beer being good this spoilt the whole evening
